wrapping paper storage idea

If your house is anything like mine, the wrapping paper never has a safe spot to live. It then gets flattened, smashed and torn from being thrown all over the place.

I have a decent utility closet in the lower level that I have found a way to utilize the space for wrapping paper storage. I had some primed poplar in the garage that I put to good use. This closet has 3 sides that have shelves so I held it in the middle. To get the paper down, just slide it forward, pull one end down and there is enough room to slip it out then. Will see if the wife keeps it this neat through the holidays

I like a little flex in the wood so the rolls eventually "return" to center of room and dont end up stranded over the shelves making it hard to get to. I think the picture makes it look more bowing than it really is.

My rule is only buy what you need, Walmart will always have more next year.

Now my 9' LED lit tree....80$ for a 249$ tree cause I brought it in January. And the GF's rule of a new ornament each year for each of us... that's not easy to pass up.

After the holiday, I throw all of it away!

Sometimes she buys after the holiday to get the markdown prices.

I throw that away too. No way I'm keeping things filling up space for a whole year, for one event.

Went through the entire house and sheds and tossed all holiday decorations except one small pre lit artificial tree and box of ornaments. That lives in a spare trash can in the yard. I just brought it in for this year.

Harsh, but we used to overflow with decorations. Closet after closet and attic full.

Much better now.

If she needs paper or boxes or bows or cards, there are dozens of dollar stores just waiting for the need. Let them store the stuff.

Nothing wrong with buying after the holidays for practically nothing. If you keep a good rotation going you never have to spend more than you should on stuff that is overpriced. A couple years we went overboard so we keep it to a minimum now. She has 3 bins of xmas stuff which isn't much. I have a good size attic that will accommodate lots of stuff. I'm not allowed to put candles up there though. Apparently they all melted one year:lol:

I ended up buying one roll from Costco, 75' of reversible wrapping paper... Everything getting wrapped in the same pattern, red plaid! Probably last me at least another year.

Kinda cool to have all the presents currently under the tree matching in red. Will sure g the folks wondering wtf....

When I lived alone, I too only had 1 or 2 rolls that worked for every occasion.

Good idea. I've worked for a gift wrap company for over 25 years so I've amassed quite a collection. I used to bring home several cartons every year for the wife but most of it wound up in the attic. When we moved it all got trashed and now I do like Phantom and pick out a roll or two from one of the clubs to last all year.

-and thanks to all of you buying gift wrap!:)

If you REALLY want to buy in bulk we'll sell you one of these:

Bulk is awesome. My mom purchased a 6-7" diameter roll from one of the department stores going out of business, where they wrapped the presents. The paper is heavy duty and 20 years later we still get presents in the same paper. The only down size is the roll was far too heavy for storage like this.
