Thanks. It would be nice if I could complete it! :) I am getting it back from my brother this Saturday, as coincidence would have it. He was all excited to help - but it just sat at his house in the same way it probably would have here. I feel the energy rising though. Maybe I will make some progress soon.

I picked up a couple at auction last week probably theater both from files. Kinda a weakness of mine if original, or I think they are..

Those are cool! The guards, pommels and grips all interesting. And daggers are underrated. What is the composition of the spacers on the one with the brazed round guard/quillons? Brass?

As for being "theater" or not, I'm with the easy-going wing on that. You may not have provenance, but they both have all the characteristics and certainly look the part with age, wear, and patina. That's very hard to introduce to a modern repro. The crotchety wing rebuts with stories of veterans making them when they returned home or years later. But that's a big so what for me.
