Please share your experience with this store..
Some items seem to be a few bucks cheaper than tooltopia and some items more complete than the toolwarehouse and tooltopia. The downside is you have to buy $500 to get free shipping. But are they good at filling their orders and packaging?

I've ordered 3 times from them even with a bad experience on the first order.

First, I ordered a 3/8" drive SK rotary head ratchet. The ratcheting mechanism was dead on arrival. It just spun freely. I dropped them an email, and they said they would take care of it. I also fired an email to SK the same day, and they sent out a free rebuild kit at no charge and asked for no proof of purchase. That's been 4 years ago, and I still haven't received a reply from SJDiscounttools.com. Thank god for excellent service from S-K.

I've ordered twice since then and received excellent service, so I *hope* the first time was a fluke. They are fairly quick to ship and the packaging seemed ok. I would recommend.

Ive bought from them before.. cust service was alright.. I bought a bunch of stuff once and got one wrong item.. they sent me the correct one and let me keep the wrong one. I couldnt use it anyway.. it was a impact hammer bit.. with a shank that wont fit my hammer. They also seem to have more than 1 warehouse they ship from.. I got separate packages at different times from different locations.

That is cool as long as they only charge one price on shipping.

ordered a prybar and some other tools- got most of order in separate shipments, no prybar, so I e-mailed, then they sent me a little screwdriver instead of the prybar twice. :wtf: That was at least a month ago. Still no prybar. Prices are good, but service gets a big fat raspberry *thbbbppt!!*

I had a very bad experience with them last year. I ordered an Equus timing light in March 18th, 2007. SJDiscount immediately charged my credit card. Three days later I got an e-mail saying they were back ordered. I wrote back asking when they will be available, they wrote, "We still hope this week on these, let us know at any time if you need to cancel".

Two weeks later I asked again and they wrote "Warehouse informed us Scheduled to ship 04/10." The month of April came and went, and I received nothing. Keep in mind they had my e-mail address, home address and phone numbers if they needed to contact me.

On May 3rd, I wrote to them at 7:20 a.m. PST to cancel the order. They wrote back in less than two hours, "I apologize, but we were unable to cancel the order. The warehouse informed me that this has shipped. Tracking should post shortly." I think this was a ploy of theirs to keep the order, otherwise why would an item that was ordered a month and a half ago happened to ship from the warehouse on the same day I canceled it??? Hard to believe they had actually shipped the timing light to me.

By this time, I've had enough dealing with them. I wrote back that if the package arrives at my doorstep it would be refused and sent back. Then they threatened I will be charged a 10% restocking fee if I refuse it. :wtf:

The next morning I received notice from them that the package was shipped by FedEx. FedEx indicated they received it at 8 p.m. on May 3rd, so it is obvious to me the package could not have shipped twelve hours earlier when they claimed it had, and they could have easily canceled my order!

I called VISA to report the incident and to reverse the charge SJD made in March and VISA sided with me.

FedEx later reported that the package was returned to SJDiscount on May 14th. On the same day, I got another e-mail from them saying I need to reverse the charge back paying them in full, claiming I had received the timing light. They would not even admit they had received it back. Bad, SJDiscount. Very bad.

This was the most horrible online transaction I had, including all of my eBay purchases. I would never ever buy anything from these guys again

Is there a law a company may not charge a customer's credit card until the item actually ships? Or is it just an ethical rule of conduct?

I bought a bunch of what was supposed to be "knipex" tools from them, it was all made in spain. Came to find out that none of it was Knipex product. They would not take back the return without a restocking fee. Also came to find out that its all a drop ship system, they don't handle any product. That explains a lot of the other problems I've read about.

I like to google map prospective businesses I deal with since then. here is the "headquarters" of SJ

OK, glad I read this thread. I was looking at them to order a few things to begin creating my garage. How is Tooltopia to deal with? Any bad experiences like these?

I recently had an issue with tooltopia. I have ordered a few items in the past from them with no problem.
I ordered a meter and they shipped me a USED, defective meter :(

Apparently their customer service can't approve a return without checking with their warehouse which takes a day or two. After a couple days they sent me return paperwork and I shipped it back.

They sent a second and it was new but defective. Had to wait a couple days to get return paperwork. I told them I would rather have a refund and they told me that wasn't a problem.
What I didn't realize was that their refunds take 2-4 weeks AFTER they receive the item back.
I did get my refund but it was all such a PITA that I will probably not use them again. I did notice that Tooltopia had a few bad reviews on the Amazon site (they sell on Amazon also)

It's hard to find good customer service. Amazon has an easy return policy if it's on something they sell themselves. I had to return a book a couple months ago and it couldn't have been easier.

I recently ordered a 1/4" SK Torque Wrench (74420) from SJ Discount Tools. Their web site indicated the torque wrench "usually ships the next business day" I also needed a 22mm socket so I tacked that on to the order since it did not increase the shipping charge any.

http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/skt74420.html

Well, a couple of days go by and I don't hear a thing - although I do notice my credit card has been billed the full amount - $138. I send them an email, no response. Another day goes by and I send them another email. This time they answer - They can't get the torque wrench! It is back ordered until at least November.

Now I am a little pissed because I needed that torque wrench for a project this weekend so I order another wrench from ToolTopia. I email SJ Discount to cancel the entire order.

Yesterday a small package shows up, which I am guessing is the 22mm socket from SJ Discount. I also receive an email that they are refunding me $117 of the $138. So basically they are trying to charge me $21 for this one socket that I would never had ordered by itself. I paid $7.50 for at ToolTopia and shipping was free because of the torque wrench.

SJ Discount Tools does not have a phone number posted - so you can't actually call to talk with someone and in my case, they didn't answer their email's very promptly. They never informed me before they shipped the socket that they couldn't get the torque wrench - the only reason I bought the socket was because of the torque wrench.

I will never use them again!

CindySanders - you wouldn't be associated in any ways with S & J Discount tools would you?

I noticed this was your first post on this forum. And there is also another post by a "CindySanders" on Epinions where S & J received a number of unfavorable reviews:

SJ Discount Tools - thumbs down

S & J would be better off spending their time and energy on improving their customer service then trolling the internet and posting bogus favorable reviews...

Normally, I try not to get involved with these kinds of threads, but do these companies think we're stupid? Two separate posts from two separate user accounts, each with one post, extolling the virtues of this company.:wtf:
