I haven't been able to find much of anything regarding these, maybe I'm not wording it right, but I've been on the hunt for these for a while. I'm mostly referring to flex-type as opposed to fixed. I feel they're much more versatile.
There are two similar but very distinct types. There's fixed boxed end and a ratcheting and of the same size, and then there's the type where both ends of the wrench are different sizes and both ratchet. First of all, what do you prefer? I know having the fixed box end is nice for very tight fasteners so you're less likely to "abuse" it and break things free with the ratcheting side. But personally I think I prefer the double ratcheting type. Take up less space and its nice to have two sizes with one tool. And lets face, it many of us would just use the ratcheting end regardless. I haven't found many reviews for any brands out there so I'm curious what others think. Snap On makes a 0° offset set but they're the old ratcheting design and they are HUGE. I am a snappy junkie but they don't offer anything along these lines.
On to the different options, I haven't decided which kind I'm getting for sure yet. I currently own a metric set of Matco Double Ratcheting XL Flex. Both ends ratchet. I love them. BUT, I'm an industrial mechanic who uses SAE 99% of the time, so those are mostly used on my auto repairs. Matco doesn't offer that style in SAE or I would own them already. They do make a fixed end/ratcheting flex end(gearwrench rebrand) but it is LUDICROUS what they want, $500 for GW, no thank you. So I've looked to other options and this is what I've found.
Probably one of my top choices is the 120xp double box single ratcheting flex end set by gearwrench. I can get a set for around $140. I hate 120xp ratchets but I think the 120xp ratchet wrenches are amazing. But I haven't gotten to beat on them yet, only briefly handled them, so any input on this set or similar is welcome.
The rest are mostly no name brands, Mountain makes a set that seems pretty solid, about $110, but I'd be concerned with warranty, because these will not be coddled.
EZ Red makes a set that looks good as well, similar in price to mountain. I'm more familiar with EZ Red but still would worry about warranty.
At the bottom of the barrel is Neiko, which I'm pretty skeptical of. But they're priced well.
I apologize for the long post, just trying to get some help, and possibly offer some as well as I haven't found any good threads on the topic. I've included pictures of a few that I've mentioned.
