Re: Yea Old Garage

Just a pic showing the cleared brush area,

Done by hand more or less. An old axe for some stuff, the yard weed walker whent through 3 spools on it clearing brush a long handle brush nipper. And the atv winch pulled many sticker bushes as well. Some just drugged the atv instead of the bush though. Had to change to the rear hitch then.

Or the atv yanked em out via the rear hitch and a 4' running start before chain got tight you either stop real quick or your momentum pulls out the offending bush!

Due the pics open in new tap full size for you guys?
I updated the iPad os to 9.3.2 and now my pics in new tab are just reg size not big where you can get a good look at the details.
If somebody will chime in and let me know I'd appicate it.

Thanks sublime

When it comes to pulling the hard ones out, I find if you pull them from several different directions, you don't come to that sudden stop as often. It's looking good.

Had to add in some siding to make my corner work out
How I want and first piece of soffit up.

If your still with me after my novel length post above.

If that's a novel, then my posts must be multi-part 6 part series written in large print....ha.

I think you're taking the "little bit of sweat every day" a bit far with stump removal project :)

Den wood, it seem novel length when typing out on a iPad.

And only work on the stumps when they are in the shade! And cleared out the brush to keep a breeze blowing through where the stumps are also helped alot.

Now that you're a pro, you gonna come over and help me do the ones on the Duck Haus? It seems like you're singing the song of my summer just slowly knocking the corners off of it.

Only if you stop by my place and help with the stump removal and camper shed build which needs done before winter as well!

Slow and steady seems to be my speed this summer.
I did a lot of walking over and looking at the soffit on the house porch to figure out how it's suppose to look when done for the garage.
Right or wrong it's up on 1 side now and won't be coming down that is for sure!

I guess I'm making progress though.

Re: Yea Old Garage

Been a few days but soffit is installed along both sides of the garage!

Now starting the run up to the peak!

Had to due some backwards shiming of the f channel stuff on my cedar lap siding should have thought out this a little bit more ahead of time?

Oops it's not the only thing not thought on this whole endaver of a garage build by a novice builder with a hammer.

I make due and don't worry you can't tell from the front porch of the house so it's all good!

It looks like our place here in western Wisconsin. Near Red Wing, MN to be exact. But we don't have a 78 Ford, it's an 80 Chevy. Just replaced our 20x20ish garage with a new one. Still got an old garage in the back that appears to be falling in.

I didn't get through the large amount of posts but I'm in the middle of installing a woodstove in the garage that I yanked out of the basement. But I decided to do something different since the garage has a bar and such and is my second home. I'd like to plumb it in with liquid heat from outside through copper.

Also, i'm not sure if you completely insulated but Menards has a sweet deal on poly foam 4x8s until Sept 10th.

Sub: you might make a post of the before and now alongside each other like Denwood (Woody) and others have done so you can see just how far Yea Old Garage has come since you started spiffing it up. also i think i remember you saying you finished insulating the garage ceiling, but i don't recall seeing a picture or congratulating you when that happened. any time to post pictures please do if you have some.

since fall/winter is just around the corner are you ready?

Re: Yea Old Garage

Wow Sub. I just finished reading your thread and it exhausted me to see how much effort you put into this. You have a fine looking garage that holds onto it's heritage, but has and will have more modern amenities.

Did you get at least the roof done for your camper shed? I have had several over the years and the only roof leak I ever had was from snow sitting on top. If you do not get it under cover before one of the early snows hits try to sweep it off or hit it with a leaf blower on top. The other winter storage tip that you don't hear much about is when you do have it under cover, is to get the vent covers where you can leave your roof vents open without rain getting in. Leave the windows loose and your vents cracked. This keeps the humidity from sweating in there and leaving water spots and mold. Enjoy the trips and time with the kids because I would not trade the time I spent with my kids when they were the ages of yours for anything. They are only that age for a minute, but their memories will last them the rest of their lives.

drives that is a great idea and on my to due list.

I due have all the soffit up and it is a great feeling that for now all the outside work on the garage is done. I have to touch up stain/painting to get done but for this winter the outside is set.

couple of Pics of the soffit install and helpers,

had my brother intown from Arizona where he lives and got a afternoon of work out of him as well.

I need to geta completed pic done and the first pic and due the side by side.

the inside ceiling need to be completed but that can wait till the temp is in the teens and I can work outside in the garage with the woodstove running and keeping things nice and warm.

thanks for posting, and I didn't get the camper shed done.

I got the camper parking area graded out and flattend and ready to park the camper in instead of the yard next to the house.

I think the camper may just get tarps over the roof for this year.
just found a seam popped in the roof and had to fix this last weekend. Had to air out the bed as it leaked down onto the bed.
grrr. such is life with a camper I suppose.

Re: Yea Old Garage

More work on the garage this last weekend had super nice weather,

got the Decorative Rock wall done on the Upper side.

will fill in with smaller rock's behind up the bottom of the t-11 siding.

This provide me a fire break if ever a grass/woods fire sweeps through the area on me. Rocks are from the Inlaws Dairy barn that was torn down 7 years ago. I had the rocks piled up for this use when we moved out here. Got 2 from the ditch line and 5 of these came out of where the Camper Parking clearing is at now.

ATV has the front Bucket on for Moving the rocks around.

Re: Yea Old Garage

ATV did suffer some damage as I turned and caught a tree and put a nice bend on the front bumper piping.

the square bars are suppose to be vertical and as you can tell in this pic they are not quite vertical now, Ill have to take the bumper off and bend things back into the proper position. It'll be a nice winter day cold day project.

wasn't the only carnage of the weekend I was mowing the lawn and the steering rod of the mower broke need to get a new one for that as well and my live animal trap got ran over by the rear tire of the ATV as well.

at least there wasn't ER visit which is always a Plus.

Re: Yea Old Garage

Also got the Camper out of the front yard next to the house in it is parked in its winter location. I still have to trap over the roof and stuff but I got the Tires up on some old boards so as it doesn't sink into the ground to bad and also made a tire cover out of some old boards to try and keep the tires from Sun rot. "no Pic of the tire cover as I finished that in the dark"

2nd pic is of the storage location of the wood hauling racks for the 78 Ford.

this keeps them up off the ground and somewhat covered. Da Wife doesn't like the storage location. I told here when she was willing to help find/clean a better spot and get them moved I'd get them moved. "so far she hasn't found any where to move them"

Re: Yea Old Garage

Sub: looks and sounds like you had CRAZY DRIVER disease this weekend or was it just too many DEWS? happy to hear it might be all stuff you can fix.

speaking of exercise moving those rocks around will get you some. do yourself a favor an try to keep the rocks at least 6 inches below the wood cause debris and stuff will get in the gaps and cause issues with your siding. also the BUGS will find their way in easier.

i know it's a garage, but you've done such a great job improving it i'd like to see it last you until you don't need it instead of you having to redo some of the great work.

feel free to email me if you want more details on why you don't put rocks, dirt or anything up against your siding on your home or garage or just believe me that it's not a good idea.

cheers and looks like you had some sunshine so maybe the sun got in your eyes to cause those accidents. :bounce:

Sub: even 3 inches below the bottom of your wood siding would be better than stacking it against it, but inspectors would always want us to remove dirt and rocks and plants 6 inches below and back about that much from the siding.

Re: Yea Old Garage

thanks for you input drives. : ) I may have to redo some of the rocks.

I still have 1/2 of the wall to get done correctly right now its a overflow holding of scrap lumber and stuff that I want to get cleared then add the rocks to get it to look Nice and provide the fire break protection.

also Had a Dew On Saturday I was at Boy Scout Training day and wanted to be awake to pay attention to what was being presented.

Sunday was 1 can of Pepsi and 1/2 can of Dr. Pepper!

SUB: yep just cause wood is painted or treated won't prevent it from damage from rot and bugs so try to keep those things from happening and your garage might still be standing when your grandkids want to build their plane cars in the future.

cheers and keep from grabbing soda to stay awake and find a healthier option. just saying. little ZZB?

Bob I was down hill and had a 10 yard lead, with the Open prairie to my back.

and "this is the Important Part" I also believe that I can run faster scared than the wife can run mad!

yes da wife puts up with a lot from me. though she left me and the 3 kids home alone for 2 days this weekend "Craft Fair Show with her Mom overnight"
and I consider it a success if the house is still standing and I haven't had to call for any emergency services. be it Fire EMS or Police.

she doesn't share my assessment of a successful weekend as she spent 2 hours putting the house back to order? I don't know I was outside working on the rock wall and if I kids not screaming and bleeding then they are doing fine.

Also had the kids help moving rocks as well to try and lesson the house destruction but not enough for the wife's liking I guess.

Cheer's thanks for stopping by!
