You're right, I am proud of you. Help a person out and do it butcher style.

well I got 2 things of venison sausage and a Elk roast from the guy for payment. He's into hunting a lot and was out west this fall for a elk hunt!

same guy that gave me the snowmobiles and a bunch of used lumber this summer. Heck the Stone boat was made out of the lumber that he had given me.

Took my little Log Dolly along as well and tried that first and it only went 5 feet and turned sideways on us so went to the stone boat instead and that worked out pretty well.

Sub: just a reminder in case you didn't see me ask for a build of your miter stand on steroids. if you want to post up a few more pictures and how you made it i know i'd appreciate it if you have time to. that thing is AWESOME and it looks like you could put a hitch on it and go off roading with it too.

have another SODA FREE DAY

cheers (still old and drinking homemade green ice tea)

busy weekend,

Started off with getting these on Thursday afternoon,

Vintage 1986 Honda 200SX and a 1985 Honda TRX 125.

the boy's are super excited to have there own ATV's

they need some TLC to be operational.

I got the 200SX running and took for a spin around the yard with it.

short list of repairs for each that I know of.
200SX needs a seat, Oil change, Rear Tires, Air Filter, Choke Cable not working, Front Brakes, Handle bar grips, Rear fender and front fender Plastic repair.

TRX 125 Repair list, Tie rod broke on left front tire. Got tie rod end with it to replace. Front rack/bumper missing whats left is bent to the right. Front brake lines have been cut.

ill be busy getting these old Honda's up and running but the boys can help out with the repairs and learn some stuff along the way. Heck I'll be learning as well.

Sub: yep good safety 101 instructions with the keys to the atv’s would be good. Too many paraplegic kids are wishing they’d had some better advice.

More dad of the year points for allowing your boys to build a camp while you were getting more exercise doing there fair share of the work.

Hoping it warms up a bit for you soon!!

thanks Drives yep there will be quite a few pointers on how to drive the ATV's

the 125 has the throttle set to only go about 1/2 so I think I'm leaving that as is for now.

was off on my old car domain site and found this old one of me with the 1953/54 Golden Jublie pulling the BuzzSaw Cart behind it. Grandpa bought the tractor New and has been in the family ever since. Names Henry for the tractor as well!

I'm off from my uncle farm for a nice 40min ride into my house in town to saw up some wood I had piled there.

Henry in town in front of the old house with my oldest sitting in his car seat on the tractor.

I had taken off the seat and suspension to rework the suspension part to give it a little more spring and move the seat back some on the old ford.

so propped the kid up in his car seat on the tractor out in front of the house.

Sub: i'm just curious was that your old house in town before you moved to the country on acreage in your current place? or is that a garage and house you still own and you are still able to use your old garage?

love the old tractor pics and i bet OSHA would have a fit with that old saw you cut wood with. i for one would love to see some action pics of you using that saw if you still own and use it.

remind your kids that trees and even branches or debris can fall on those trails they might be riding their ATV's on. I'm sure they'll figure out how to bypass that governor if they haven't already so keep an eye on them cause at some point don't you know TEENAGERS KNOW IT ALL and they firmly believe that we (DAD'S IN GENERAL) don't have a clue. we get a lot smarter in their minds maybe when they approach 30, but it's still interesting trying to talk to kids as you probably already know.

good luck with your crew

thanks for stopping by!!
and great fatherly advice from one who has been there and done that!
lord know some days I think I need all the help I can get!

yep the tractor with kid was in front the old house and then the garage at the house in town as well. that is where the wheel barrows on the ceiling was done.
It was on a corner lot.

don't own that house anymore, Had to sell to help fund for the house we are at now.

the old saw rig originally mounted to the 3 point on the old ford tractor. My Dad made it into a trail rig as then he could use it with different tractors.
from my memory around 1978 of so I was 3 at the time my folks decide to start burning wood to heat the house. The first wood stove they had is now the wood stove that heats Yea old garage! The saw rig was 3 point mounted and the only tractor that it worked on was the old ford. At this time the old ford was the chore tractor on my grandpa's farm. It had a loader and did daily duty running the manure spreader. Grandpa milked around 20 cows and the ford was the only tractor that fit in the barn alley way to shovel the manure into the spreader to take to the field.

the Woodland was a 40 minute tractor ride away and since the ford was needed daily on the farm he made the saw cart.
Other tractors Grandpa had at the time was a Allis Chalmers WD with the Goofy Allis hitch on the back so no 3 point on that one.
Oliver 88 Diesel was the big tractor on the farm and that didn't have a 3 point system at all.
Dad Had a Case 730 with a Eagle hitch,
so he made the saw cart that way you just needed a tractor with a PTO and regular hitch and you could use the saw to cut wood.

Still have the saw rig and next time we have it out and in use Ill try and get some pics.

its not a machine to play around with at all that is for sure!

Sub: a video of your old saw in action would be great if you can pull it off safely.

just curious are you able to drive the tractor from town to your place or do you have to put it on a trailer?

sounds like your Gramps was a busy guy!!!

Drives, I'll try and get a video sometime of the saw in action, it might be a year or so.
generally run the saw in the fall and saw into wagons and then unload wagon direct into my dad's wood boiler as that small wood is difficult at best to stack up nice and pretty.

can drive the tractor down the road if you want its just the top speed of the tractor is around 13mph so you don't get anywhere real quick on it that is for sure.

dad tells back in the day in the winter in the 40's-50's-60's Grandpa would take the tractor and Manure spreader down to the woodland from his farm 40min trip. stop at the road and spend 10min putting tire chains on the tractor go down in the wood land and hand cut trees into size to load the spreader up 1/2 way. drive back up to the road unload spreader at road side go back and reload spreader 1/2 in woodland.

couldn't load the spreader full of wood as the tractor didn't have the HP or traction to pull a full spread up the hill to get out of woodland. Get back up to the road load the spreader full of wood.
We have a 1/2 mile right of way to get down to the woodland.
once spreader was fully loaded take off tire chains and head on down the road back to his farm. Get home unload spreader full of wood, Needed spreader next day to haul manure from the cows. Milk the cows and call it a day. Next day hook up the buzz saw and saw up the wood into fire wood for the house and they also had a small stove in there milk house to keep that warm as well.

I'm a total softy and wimp compared to how hard my grandpa worked in his life that is for sure!

before the Jubilee grandpa had a 8n or 2n not sure of which I have seen a picture of the tractor a few times.

Have hauled the Jubilee on the car trailer a couple of times when needed. Took it over to my brother-in-law who's a tractor mechanic and had the 3point lift arms fixed 5 years ago.

other than that 3 week excursion I don't think the Henry's been out of the county since it was bought new.

so I actually got some work done on the garage this weekend.

started the inside wall project.

pic of the board up on the saw cart and getting it set for shiplap siding style.

and then a Pic of the start of the wall going in.

Nice and warm in the garage outside temp was in the 20's and in the garage I had it up to 60 or so. was working in just a long sleeve shirt at the end.

attachment.php

This Pic is the current wall I am working on.
4 rows of boards up the bottom is a treated 1x6 and then 3 rows of the 1x11 boards that I have.

attachment.php

this is my board stock pile and the 1/2 finished back wall that I started before I ran out of time and all the boards got stacked up in front of the back wall. Stack next to the wall is the 1x11x10' then the stack of the 1x8x8' then 2 stacks of the short 1x11x8 or shorter that was on top of the stack next to the wall.
so I have a selection to choose from as I work to get the wall covered.

attachment.php

that is all thanks for viewing!

Thanks Xtremek,

I'm hoping to have the 1 wall done before spring.
had to dig out the gravel to get the first board put down and then put up the vapor barrier and try in fill in all my insulation gaps best that I could.
I put the boards up in 1 day but spent 3 day's prepping the wall to get to the point to put the boards up.

This is just the first 9' section.

yes the Princess is quite the adventure to have around the house!

so I got a couple of more boards up on the garage this weekend only got to work on it on Friday Night and Sunday morning,

Had to take the kids to the Zor Shrine Circus on Saturday and also Had Cub Scout Blue/Gold ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

but got 2 more rows of boards up and now working around the window which will slow me down some.

But I love having all the windows in the garage to let in as much natural light as possible.

couple of Pics of my progress slow and steady I go.

Nice progress. Using those bent nails you straightened, I bet. Way cool sir.

nope just using screws on this that way if for what ever reason I need to take a board out I'll be able to just remove the screws and pry it out of its spot.

though I did find another whole bucket of bent nails so my next camping trip I'm all set for another nail straitening session!

have used about half of those bent nails up!

thanks for stopping by xtremek!

Those walls are gonna look sweet when you’re all done. I had a friend do that in his garage as well and he loved that he didn’t have to find a stud to hang stuff all the time.

Keep teaching those kids the value of hard work!

I really like the screw idea, nice call. The wall behind my bench is screwed in because that's what I had. It's going to come in handy in the next month or so, but only because of happenstance.

Sub: your wall is looking great. I like the idea of screwing things together now whenever possible cause even though you don't think you are going to change it it's really hard to predict the future. i've been pulling apart stuff i built maybe 25+ years ago and the stuff i screwed together takes seconds while the stuff nailed usually takes a lot longer, pieces of wood are usually trashed and there is swearing involved.

in fact i was moving stuff in my storage the other day and came across new 50 pound boxes of nails that i'm seriously thinking of just selling instead of having them as inventory.

keep up the great work.

cheers (yep i'm still drinking mostly homemade ice tea)

Unruh,
thanks for the comment's I'll be happy when the walls are done as well.

xtremek, Thanks I like the screws as well, they blend in better with the boards and the look I'm going for. Plus when I mess up its a lot less hassle to take a board back off the wall.

Drives thanks for stopping by! there has been my fair share of cussing while working on yea Old garage that is for sure!
its usualy blanking Drives this and bleepity Drives that!!! Ha ha!

got some time in this weekend to work on the garage.

working on my wall again.

attachment.php

tricky part was the board on top of the window.

for future Window replacement the 4 boards boxing the window in place can come out and window removal will not effect the rest of the wall boards.

attachment.php

then this section all done for now.

need to trim up the edges a little bit but I'll wait to due that till I'm done with the other sections so I can due the trimming all in the same style!
