Xtremek. Yep it will cut anything fast that is for sure. We just due mostly small stuff with the buzz saw. When your struggling to even pick up the wood to put on table you can get in trouble fast trying to saw.

This last weekend got the ole Dinner bell from the Wife's family farm put up and installed! Sold the farm 3 years ago and this is 1 of the items that she wanted. Kids did most of the work I only put the bell bracket on the post and lifted the bell in place.post hole.jpg140 post.jpgDigging hole.jpg

Can you hear the dinner bell from Ye Old Garage? Nice project for the kids to work on.

Just thinking about your buzz saw in operation and all the issues it would cause if something failed or someone wasn’t paying attention.

so I have this Ice Tong's/Wood carrier. Its super handy for picking up fire wood and saves me from having to bend all the way over to the ground. Found another one on Ebay the other week and got it. I have looked on/off the last few years and never found another. New one to me on the left, my used one on the right the new rusty one on the left I'll have to get the rust worked off of it. wont take long and now ill be able to pick up wood with each hand and go. Gifford Wood Company New York is what is stamped into these.

yep bell is only 40 yards from the garage well with range of the the bell.

The Buzz saw is something you have a healthy respect for when using it. Having good footing so there is no slips and falls and also super mindfull when putting wood on the table to not let it get close to the blade. also push the table into the saw and let the blade due the work and not bind the wood on the blade.

Matt, those ice tongs bring back memories. When we were towing the travel trailer cross-country back in the mid-1950s the ice box needed block ice. It was no problem finding it in the lower 48 but for some reason impossible to find in Alaska. Never got used to powdered milk and hated that we didn't have tongs to pick up the ice blocks. Seemed like I dropped half the blocks on the way to the trailer so there was always a little mud in the top shelf of the ice box. Been a long time since I've seen a block of ice but maybe it's because I'm looking in the wrong places.

Bob, When we had to haul ice blocks as kids, we used a towel on them. My dad would say i could melt them in my hands!

Bob I have a few other ice Tongs as well or I think they was more for Ice blocks instead of firewood. as they have a bigger jaw set then these. If I get time and think about it Ill get them all in the same spot and a pic for you.

I'm way to young to know about having a Ice box in the house and such but still like the history of such things!

Is that stump solid, or pretty punk? That sucker is pretty thick for the ATV to be pulling, even with the rig.
top 2/3 is good enough bottom will be punky but I'll send it threw the stove regardless this tree been down for alot of years I had to look at it on my drive home every day and finally I got around to getting it cleaned up. It was on the neighbor's land where my Woodland lane goes threw and neighbor says anything dead or down I can cut up for firewood and make there woodland look little better. This was 2 fold as I started on this tree as a way to keep a eye on my folks place as where this tree was I can view there house/shed and my dad has a few pinched nerves in his back and I was to help him move wagons and trailers for the buzzsawing party, Well dad is stubborn and wont ask for help so by me working on this down tree I could get a look at the shed door and when door is open and tractor is missing I could head down to wood land to help get wagon's moved.

got the tree clean up only thing left was this stump part and now not even that.

Now if I get home this week and have 30 min of daylight left before dark I can start a saw and work on getting this stuff cut up some. it'll go right from cutting into the stove wont even make it into the wood pile stack. That long trunk is elm and is tough to split so I think it'll be saw in 12" block on the big end and I can lift them into the stove 1 or 2 blocks a day untill they are gone. that stump part I'll saw a block off and then rip the stump into 1/4 and maybe even take the 1/4 into 1/8 just get it small enough I can lift and put into the stove. that is the plan.

Xtremek it took some yanking on that stump to get it moved off its spot and then some more to get it out turned around that I could get the arch backed up and lift some of the weight from being dead pull on the ground weight to the arch is carrying the weight. Thank yanking part was measures in " and not feet but I only needed to get it moved 3' then I could get the arch backup up square and give it a go. That poor arch and ATV have pulled alot of things that is probaly above the rated working load if there is such a thing.

Sounds like a solid plan. I hope your saw is sharp.
itll be sharp to start with and when done with the stump it'll be dull again. I'll cut the elm first when chain is still sharp and finish up on the stump as there will be dirt and some small rock most likley in the base of the stump. I have the Sthil all in 1 file that sharpens and sets the rackers at the same time. My saw sharpening skills due alot better with that than just the old hand file for sure I had been doing.

looks like you've been busy. stay warm and looks like you've got plenty of firewood, but sure it will disappear quickly and you'll need to cut more. gotta love that FREE (well if your labor is) wood/heat.

cheers

Wood shed is ful and ready for the winter. I just hope is makes it threw with out falling over.
Left side is veritcal 90 and the right side is leaning in but it's been that way for the last month I've been keeping a eye on it.

If it starts to get any worst I'll have to brace up the lower side to keep it from falling over.
I guess that's what I get for letting the kids due 1/2 of the stacking and not having them box the ends of the rows.

Yeah, we always had 2 boxes (I didn't know what that was called until now) at each end of a row.
2 rows boxed on the downhill side only 1 on the uphill side. at least I had enough of split wood to due the box stacks, as the buzz saw wood is darn near impossilbe to box stack it just all wants to roll on you.

It’s great that the kids help and hopefully that stack won’t have to fall to give them a good lesson on stacking wood piles correctly.
it the stack fall I'm worried it'll take the shed over with it. though we had a night of high winds last night and the shed is still standing. Was my 2 worries last night listening to the wind howl the wood shed would be fallen over or the camper would be on its side as well. Both still standing this morning where they was last night so all is good.

Kids helped alot with the wood cutting this year and they getting better at it. I now wonder what my dad thought when me and my brothers tried helping him with wood cutting? Some times I think I can due better on just my own but then when you get a big production going the extra hands really help out.

The Stump from a few post's ago, Pie cut and splitting it up into big chunks. Might be a 2 person to get them loaded in.

Did try one of the big ones and the root kicker was to big to fit in I'll have to trim that off next time I fire up a chainsaw in the wood yard. 20211204_101751.jpg

Let the kids learn now, that way when they're older, they'll be more willing to help, and better at it. My wife didn't do it with her girls for the same reason, and they won't help around the house at all now that they're older. My kids will pitch in if I ask.

Can you post some more photos of the ladder truck? A Pierce? The original delivery didn’t require a long trip from the factory.

I’ve seen one photo where one of the manufacturers had a very long box car to deliver apparatus, including TDA.

One of the neighboring towns had an ALF delivered this way but broke free and bounced around inside and had to take a return trip back to the factory for repair.
sorry I missed your request I'll get some more of the Ladder truck for you. Its a 2000 Pierce 100' on the ladder and 2000GPM on the pump.

Re: Yea Old Garage

it was a trade off I was working on shoring up her free/used garden shed and she put a coat of stain on the garage.

Garden shed Pic,

had to run new 4x4 all around outside edge and build an entry ramp that folds up and becomes the door.

reminds me of the one left in the backyard when we first purchased our house, it worked for a long time

since I had the truck outside for the day, I worked on some cleaning up in the garage dosn't look like much but I can tell the difference and will make it more stream lined going foward. But since truck was already outside and I had space. brought in kids ATV trailer that had lost a tire in buzz sawing wood hauling day. Got that fixed and was nice to be able to work inside out of the cold and wind. with forks on back of the tractor pick up trailer and chain the other side and pick it up and drive right into the garage and get it all fixed up and its ready for the next time I need to use it again.

Heat is SO amazing this time of year. And is the fact that the little tractor could pull that log.
Heat is nice. Heck I was happy when I got the garage closed in that I had a place out of the wind to work on stuff if needed.
Hoping this year I get the last wall of the garage done how I want and then can get a workbench in there as well and then some tools.

Was impressed with the tractor as well. With the little bit of snow made traction all the more interesting but once I got it moving it was away I went and didn't look back till I got to the wood lot with the log.
