Good thinking on the maple syrup biz and some good ideas from Jim too.

I’m not sure how much building or remodeling is going on in your area but finding them might land you some quality inexpensive lumber that just needs a few nails pulled.

Getting warmer cause pics with sunshine look great?

Breakfast was cold bacon and eggs and toast. Cooks need some work at keeping things warm till we eat. Like putting a cover over the eggs and bacon till ready to serve.

Lunch was ghilled cheese and tomato soup. I only did grilled cheese was okay but they cooked super slow as didn't manage propane tank and only had 1 tank to cook off of.

Supper was Dutch oven lasagna was really good considering. Took 2 hours to get done from start to finish is all.

We worked on rank requirements today GPS directions some knots stuff and a hike. We have 9 scouts needing to get to first class by July to go on adventure trip to Gettysburg PA. Tomb of unknown solider to place a wreath and some DC stuff and finish on Battleship WI 10 day trip.

So some of these scouts have stuff to get done for rank advance.

Very good. What’s on the agenda for the troop?

Of course we need the planned menu and what’s the best dish prepared.
We have big tag boards with scouts names and the rank set out in a grid to show them what they need to work on.

New system to try this year. Hoping to not have a mad scramble in June to get to first class to be able to go on adventure trip.

The GPS stuff was a requirment for rank advancement, Im sure there is a Merit badge for GPS but this was for the rank advancement stuff the other adult leader did the GPS stuff I'm the ropes and knots expert for knowing all of that stuff. And there was Map reading as well we had a map of the park and where we was at and they had to find there way to the shower house via the map so we could get water to have at camp. Good time just super tired today after 2 day's of cool nightime tent sleeping. Didn't get cold like the first night my feet was cold till I got the 3rd blanket for my legs and feet. But Its the having to get up at 4am and use the bathroom that is the problem your all nice and warm and having to get up put on cold boots and coat and then walk to the Pit Bathroom and walk back is just not very nice. At home when the Bathroom is the next room I make it threw most nights but put me in a tent and guarntee its a middle of the night trip and that I could due without.

It was
/is too cold for these bones to be out there. Kuddos to everyone for toughing it out.
made sure to tell the scouts there was extra sleeping bags and blankets in the back of my truck if they needed it. Heck I even kept one in my tent for the scout who at the door at 2am cold that I could hand out. So saturday night its 9.30 okay all scouts to bed and sure enough there's 2 of them oh I was cold last night due you have a extra blanket sleeping bag? Heck you think you might mention that like 3 hours ago when we still had daylight and its easy to find and all of that? Nope so its a 9am walk via flashlight to the truck was 200 yards away downhill from the campsite to get extra sleeping stuff. They just don't think more than 5 minutes ahead in things. But still we all had a good time even with the cold and that will be the trip they will all talk about hey you remember that one campout we had when it snowed and we was all cold!

A quart bottle in your tent would negate that 4 am walk!
that very well may be but if you miss its gonna smell later on that is for sure! Plus I don't want the scouts to be trying that as there would for sure be a miss and they sleep 2-3 per tent. Have had problems in the past with tents being peed on from the outside even Hence when your at camp you always use the pit toliet or make the walk to the shower house even.

Most times its not that bad but I just know when your home and bathroom is the next room I sleep threw most nights no problem but when camping and its a hike to the toliet its a for sure have to get up and go in the middle of the night.

Cold Boots and coat having to put on also is not the best feeling at 2am. Heck we camped in a cave a few months ago and that was a 2am walk threw the cave to the outside and then a hike to the bathroom. Only spent 1 night in the cave thankfully as I didn't take my cot just a sleeping pad and the rocks are not very soft that is for sure!

Sounds like camping with boys is very entertaining and hopefully the boys learned a few valuable things. Never knew you were the knot expert and nice that you are able to share some of your knowledge.

just an FYI. Maybe on your camping trips you drink coffee or soda later into the evening chatting with kids and old guys hence the middle of the night pee runs you don’t have at home. Just cause you’ve got a big mouth mason jar fir emergencies doesn’t mean you have to share it. (Hee hee)

warming up?

Its not that big of deal to walk to the pit toliet its just a pain to due is all.
I'm just at home go threw the night no problems or bathroom trips at all and then your out sleeping in a tent and there is a middle of the night bathroom call.

Is that a Murphy's Law of camping?
I think it must be. I also make sure to go to bathroom before going to the tent for the night and dosn't seem to matter much and try to cut down on water intake late in the day as well.

Pouring rain is bad also getting soaked on the trip to toliet and back. Cept I try to be smart enough to have the rain coat handy in the tent for such trips that need to me made.

Sugar Shack Acquired it was only 1 hour away and took me and wife/kids/buddy who lives nearby 4 hours to get loaded up it was behind a tree had to be pulled sideway's out from the back. Then winch the front over then get pulled up a small hill and pulled up on the trailer.

Had a strap at each seam didn't want the wind to catch and take them off. Shed is gonna need some TLC but the price was right. I did have 1 starp end work loose and caught the tire and got pulled down hard and rip into the roof. Such is the way things go I guess. But this is gonne be alot better than having to cook sap outside I hope.

Nice snag. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Yep its gonna need some TLC and I'll have to shore things up. I'll be posting progress pics but after getting it loaded and 3 plus hours of kids in the truck being kids tonight I'm just drinking some beer and binge watching chicago fire. I started last month and now on season 3 or 4.

So been a bit busy and haven't posted much but have done a few things. My dad needed the car trailer so had to get the suger shack unloaded so hook the old 78 Ford F150 up to the shack and the other truck on the front of the trailer and tilt trailer and pull it off. 20220427_143638.jpg

Next up is the wifes Ford Explorer the Back window hinge's let loose and it will be 2 weeks to get in replacment hinge's so the Tech at the Dealer tapped the window in. So I added so rope to the back to help hold the window in place. The wife didn't think much of my temp fix but I said its way better than having to buy a new back window for the truck.20220428_192634.jpg

Some work this weekend, Didn't feel the best but was able to get some work done.

Plans are to put in a full size storm door in this end on the right hand side and the old basement Wood Stove will go on the left but those plans may change. I'll have to shore up the roofing some on this to make it more stable as well.Sugar Shack Open end.jpg

I had to take some Chicken House Pics for the neighbor wanted to see what my setup looked like and since I have them they get to go here as well. Chicken House sets on Cement Blocks all the way around with 6 ground anchors Has buried Conduit line ran to the house and then a single light in the house to provide some light in the shorter winter day's to keep the chickens' laying eggs. Also a outlet as well so that there inside water will not freeze up its on a Heated base. Most days they get let out of the run and they free range around the yard for the day and then get locked back up at night. Notice the Rope line that is the pull rope for the chicked door on the other end can close or open the door with out having to open the coop doorChicken House Door.jpgChicke House Run.jpgChicken House Eggs.jpg

Fresh eggs, fresh syrup, and great location sounds like a great start to a famous restaurant.

I like how you find old material and stuff and make it work for you.

Thanks Drives Had Eggs and waffles and syrup for saturday breakfast 2 of the kids had friends sleep over from Friday night so it was a loud and busy house on Saturday. I have the door found that is going to be used its a old screen door with window which will let in some light. I just need to get the rest of the shed cleaned out sturdy up the roof some before I place the stoves. Get the stoves in place and bolted down as the suger shack will get pulled into place each year for its run and then pulled back into its summer storage spot. I Think I want to put the sugar shack off the corner of the house next to sidewalk that way I can get Electricty to the shack for some LED lights and running water from the Outside facet on the house. That way I can clean pans when done. Plus the finished up Syrup can go right into the house for final finish and I'm pretty close to the wood shed for getting wood to fire the stoves. That's the working plan any way.

you can have it this weekend as I'll be Boy Scout Camping at Cantigy Park in Chicago. They Have tanks on display that the scouts love. https://cantigny.org/ or https://www.fdmuseum.org/exhibits/c/tank-park/

so while I'm gone those who show up I want the sugar shack finished up, Sugar Shack work list. Remove Counter and shelving/ Shore Up Roof/ Add 4-5 wood stoves/ Cut stove pipe outlet's/Rebuild Doorway Entrace add door/Put in Electric Outlet and lights/ Add access for Quick connect Garden Hose/Shore up runner's that the Sugar Shack sets on.

should take you guys about 1/2 day I would think. Good luck!

or I'll just whack away at it when I get back from my Scout outing!LOL
