Those fsv vises are no longer manufactured. They are being replaced with the adi series. It is a better deal to get the 6" for 150$ which you may or may not be getting the adi series. The adi series is made in China though but said to be something like 45% stronger than the fsv series.

Yep, I posted about this on the Amazon deals thread. The description of the vise says ductile iron, but the picture of the product is clearly forged, as it is a welded assembly. Reviews also reflect this confusion. I fully expect my new 6" vise, whichever version, to be a heck of a deal for $153.
If you read the questions at Amazon either Amazon or a yost Rep listed Amazon stock on each vise on 11/29 and gave details of the adi series being a replacement of the fsv.The new Yost part number "ADI-6" makes me believe it is Austempered Ductile Iron, and I think the picture is not valid for the new model.

It's not as strong it is 45% stronger than the forged vise.Yes, I read that. And an ADI type vise could very well be a replacement for a forged vise as it is as strong and ductile as a forged vise. But it's cast, not forged, and cheaper to manufacture. Haven't seen a pic yet, not even on the Yost website.

The MATERIAL might be 45% stronger under ideal conditions. The overall strength will be determined by the casting design and quality. Alot of that 45% improvement is marketing. I don't expect that vise to last any longer than the forged/welded version.
Yes the fsv is Taiwan the new ones China.Does the new one have adjustable gibs like the forged had? Looks like no from the pics. Also wasn’t the FSV from Taiwan?

Any idea if the jaws are Sintered or Steel?
****. I missed the 5" one.
yup, looks like Amazon sold out of the 5 and 6 inch version so it links to "other sellers" who have the normal price. You can still get the 4 or 7 inch from Amazon or 6 inch from Walmart.. Walmart shows FSV as well...wonder if the ADI would ship instead.
Walmart is shipping the adi-6 instead of the fsv-6. The site is misleading.

The fsv is only going to come from old stock if the stock was replaced even if they ordered the old one from the vendor will ship the new adi-6 once Walmart is aware the product number was replaced they will update their site I suspect.Walmart is shipping the adi-6 instead of the fsv-6. Why would you want a weaker vise? Serious question. After seeing this, I spent some time reading and researching about the FSV-6 and talked myself into it being something I wanted at $156. If Walmart is shipping ADI-6s instead if FSV-6s, I'm now hesitant and haven't pulled the trigger. It does look to me like the Capri 10516 is the same vise as the Yost FSV-6.

I got an FSV-5 from Amazon for ~$120. I haven't used it yet but gave it a good inspection and am pleased. It's not perfect but for the $ is great. The only complaint is the handle is extremely lame - it's a joke; it's very thin and only rubber rings hold it on.
The ADI may be great, but I'm sceptical its stronger than forged steel in bending...but maybe it is. I'd love to see an independent test on that . The FSV has a cheap looking cast nut so that may be the weak point
All this being said, ADI is only as good as the quality of the material and the process used. Knowing the material is Chinesium, it doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling. For the $150 price tag, I'm willing to take that gamble.
