First post here and Ive been browsing for months on the forum. All you guys seem knowledgeable and informative so it looks like I found a great new place to learn. I recently purchased my first home and have an attached 21x22 but I'm researching into buying the property next to and behind me to build an additional detached garage. If all goes well my plan is to build a 30x40 or a slightly larger one. I currently have an addiction with buying cars and I don't think it will ever go away. When I'm not working my life revolves around my family and cars. Anyways now that I introduced myself I want to see what your 30x40 or comparable garages look like.

Why is 30x40 the target? Is there a number of cars you want in there? Are you limited by the lot as to how much size you can put in? Sorry I don't have a 30x40 to show you, but I'm curious if the same square footage might be better designed as 25x48 (still 1200 sf), depending on your use. That gives you a deep garage (25 feet deep) with 48 feet wide which makes it capable of having 3 doors: 16 foot double, 16-foot double, and 8 foot single, plus 2 feet at the ends and 2 feet in between doors. 2+8+2+16+2+16+2 = 48 feet wide. It means that no car has to be moved to get another one out, speaking from experience.

But of course, a 30-wide gives you a single door and a double door if you want, so it becomes basically 6-car garage. 3-cars wide by 2-cars deep. But the depth is taken up completely by two cars end-to end.

So it depends again on cars and use and how much open non-parking work space you seek.

I had built 30 x 44 x 10. Wish I'd insisted on 18' not 16 doors. The 12 foot wide door on the end is real convenient. Then again, if I had a time machine I'd built a larger steel barn instead of stick built, since this was too quickly filled up. The size is ok for 6 cars. But tight. And only one can't quickly exit.

This is a test first pic ever posted. I hope the pic works and hope it helps you. Build bigger.

I like the layout on that brochure unit. Can't help but wonder how much it would cost. I'll just put that on my lottery christmas wish list, lol

6 inside 30 by 44. 5 cars can exit easily, with 3 doors.

Here is a 25x40. Not exactly what you asked for but somewhat close. More of a workshop space than a spot for vehicles. Could of course have more rolling doors for more vehicles.

I have a 30x40, you didn't mention how many cars you plan to store and if you plan to use your shop for just cars or cars and tools but IMHO, go bigger, you will be surprised how fast 30x40 gets to be too small, IMHO YMMV, good luck!
