Gotcha. Also with the pores being clogged, they are probably a little warmer than they should be.

never worried about heat when working in a factory that poured iron all day, only worried if the bottoms of the boots would melt or not if i had to stand on something that had freshly poured iron on it to fix it lol

I have a pair of Keen composite toes right now. While they are more comfortable than the couple pairs of Timberland Pro composite toes I've had, the black rubber part of the sole just came apart after 6 months, when the Timberlands would last a year and the upper would wear out long before the soles starting wearing.

I am a big fan of the Timberland Pro Endurance, I have had them in both 6 and 8 inch versions. They are very comfortable and I am just getting ready to replace them now after almost 1.5 years. I am working in a Truck shop so they are getting used and abused daily.

I agree.

I've go 3 pairs that I rotate thru, Redwings, Lacrosse and Chippewa. This is in order from least to most comfortable.

Absolutely love the Chippewas and Lacrosse, tolerate the Redwings.

Just the way my feet fell.

After 37 years of wearing steel toed boots ......my favorite ones are the ones not on my feet.

I will have to admit to a lot of "flip flop time" these days but when working out in the yard or the garage my steel toed Hytest boots are the most comfortable heavy duty boots that I have ever owned. I have only made the mistake of firing up the cutting torch once while wearing flip flops.

I remember a day back over 50 years ago on the dairy farm where I grew up. The family could only afford to provide me with on pair of shoes each fall and I had chosen a pair of pointed toe cowboy boots which I thought were better for school then those "farmer's boots" that lace up. I was standing there on the concrete floor preparing to place the surcingle over the back of large Ayrshire dairy cow who just happened to have her right rear hoof planted firmly on most of the toes of my left foot at the time. The main thought on my mind was "if I ever get this cow off my foot, and if I ever earn enough money, I am buying myself a pair of steel toed boots." :lol_hitti

I have voluntarily chosen to wear steel toes on any job where they may be helpful. The only steel toed boots that I ever really hated was back in the late 60"s, they were USAF issue electrical safety shoes (I think they were actually some kind of non conductive composite), I hated the Pain of the fit, not the protection that they provided.

Whites Lace-to-Toe Smoke Jumpers. They’re pricy and have a tough break-in, but they have been my only footwear for two years + and still going strong. I thought my Danners were nice (lasted about 8 months) until I got a pair of Whites.

I do enjoy my Danner super rain forests as work boots, made in the USA. The initial break-in was a bit rough, but now they fit like a glove (pretty snug when purchased).

Have you tried Dawn dish soap or maybe GoJo hand soap? Possibly not the kind of boot-savvy answer that was expected but I do know that there I am not familiar with any shoe cleaner that's worth a damn. Hope this helps. Also have you had the Keen for long? Durability-wise I agree with you on the Carolina boot you chose. Being made in America with a heat resistant Vibram sole, that boot would survive a nuclear attack.

Saddle soap from Fiebing's.

I'm picky as hell for some reason. I don't spend much on clothes, but I have a 270 dollar pair of boots. Redwing Iron Rangers. They're beautiful, and that's about as much as I can make of it. At work I've been wearing Carhartt 6" steel toes for the past few years, but they're about worn. I'm in the market, and my Redwings are too pretty and comfortable to beat to ****.

OP, I have a question. Why is it so hard to get boots that look like real boots? Everything I've seen looks like hiking boots. I don't want hiking boots. I want plain leather. What gives?

Check out Thorogood (their American Classics, wedges etc) and Chippewa (classic line, I have a pair of the 6").

Ariat square toe steel toe cowboy boot. I work in the farm and demand a steel toe boot. I figure a steel toe stops most things (been there done that) and if it is heavy enough to bust the toe I would rather get my toes cut off then crushed into a million pieces and probably be useless. They were almost 300 bucks but have held up well! Going on a year now

I actually live 40 miles from where Thorogoods (Weinbrenners) are made. Didn't realize they were so popular. I have some people ask for them but figured it was only because they were made VERY locally.

Also because retailers, like Union Boot Pro, sell them at a very attractive pricepoint. Compared to Red Wings, they are roughly half the cost, and 3-5 times less than White's, Wesco's, Viberg's, Dayton's or Nick's (but those are in a different league).

Good leather, construction and sole, only wished they kept using Vibram.

I'll love to find a comfortable steel toe boot. Everyone I've had have been very uncomfortable. I currently have a Georgia boot with the wedge, I really like to try a thorogoods boot.

I would highly suggest trying a Carolina 5520 or a Keen Portland or Pittsburgh, and you can try a Thorogood as well, but I have very few people who try on these boots and do not like them.

A composite toe is the way to go verses a steel toe (if your job allows it) they are so much lighter and allow the toe to be wider in most cases, also the composite toe does not **** the heat out of your feet in the winter like a steel toe. My composite toe non-insulated boots are warmer in the winter compared to my insulated steeel toe boots. The selection of composite toe boots are somewhat limited though.

Most composite toes meet the same exact ASTM ratings as actual steel toe. Even at that most steel toes aren't so steel but actually a light alloy. I would actually say there are more composite right now than steel. Keen, unfortunately, is all "steel".

Just switched back to Redwing irish setters, this is my first pair of 6 inch always had the 9 inchers in the past. Had real good luck with timberland pro's but they gave me a callus on the side of my foot, 3 weeks with the redwings and it's gone. I do wear these 6 to 10 hours a day on carpeted concrete.

I choose the hard toes, I can wear anything for work but just like the hard toe better.

Chairman Mao made my Wolverine pull-ons. They are waterproof, steel-toed, 'lectric hazard, right price. I wear them seven days a week. I work at a computer in a print shop but do other work as needed, so I'm up and down 20-25 times a day on cement floors. No problem whatsoever. I wear them in my volunteer work for demo/rehab/rebuild 95% of the time, and same no problems. I've been off work due to medical for a while, but I still wear them every day.

When I'm up on ladders and/or roofs though, I make sure to wear our favorite chairman's Wolverine steel-toe lace-ups (not waterproof though).

I've owned Redwing boots mostly. I came to reallized they are overpriced when you consider the price, comfort, and durablity.

I need new boots. I think I will try the Keen's. I never heard of them before, but I have a very reputable dealer near by.

Right now I'm wearing a cheap pair of boots from Walmart. Believe it or not, they are my favorite boots I've ever owned. They are really heavy in weight unfortunately, but are really comfortable once I put some new insoles in them. I had to have new heels but on them last year. They aren't worth trying to save anymore.

Ed

Interestingly enough...I agree...Walmart. When I wore them in a professional environment they were great. The soles did tend to wear out though and you definitely needed some new insoles in them. I put new insoles in all my shoes though, so I didn't really consider that a downfall of the boot.

Chippewa loggers Steel Toe USA made. These boots are tough to break in when you first wear them but are great once you get going. I own a company that does natural gas pipeline integrity work and these boots will take on anything a right of way can throw at them. They also look cool as well.

Second on my list are my slip on Justin Steel Toe boots. They look like cowboy boots to an extent and are so comfy it's like not wearing anything. THese are also USA made and I ordered them off the website to make sure I got the USA ones vs the cheaper versions they carry.

Final one I have are my Carhart slip on Steel Toe cowboy looking boots. Unfortunately not USA made but are very comfy and go into the areas where I'm not quite ready to wear the Justins and get them all dirty! I know they are boots but they look great with a nice pair of jeans even when off duty.

If it's not summer I wear steel toe boots even around the house. Never understood people that didn't like wearing them. They do get cold sometimes but then I wear thicker socks. I luv em all!!
