Unfortunately due to the CA tax situation, Zoro sales for me will become methodical cherry picking for the one or two items on my big list that the sale makes worth buying vs. the hoard of gluttony they were in the past with no tax, free (sometimes next day) delivery, and great prices with the 30% off deals. Bummer because I really like Zoro but I still have to stay on my budget.

They charge sales tax in Texas as well... fortunately I live relatively close to the Oklahoma border and have family that lives over there. Had shipped to their house and will be seeing them this weekend. Saved me $175 in tax on the Miller 211 and the few other things I ordered. Have you considered shipping somewhere else?

I was charged tax as well but, it doesn't bother me.
Something to keep in mind is that by law, anything you purchase online that is not taxed at the time of purchase is supposed to be reported and taken care of at tax time every year.
I know that most online buyers are not doing what the law says but, the government is very much aware of what is going on and it's just a matter of time before the hammer comes down.
Most likely they'll scare the businesses into changing their systems rather than attack the individuals that are buying.

Not as long as the lobbyists for the mail order companies keep doing their job.

That's correct, purchasers are supposed to pay use tax to the state that you reside in, since you "use" it in the state.

Not as long as the lobbyists for the mail order companies keep doing their job.

That's not necessarily true. The lobbyists are trying to prevent a purchasers from having to remit use tax to the state, they are trying to prove that mail order companies don't have nexus in a state, therefore they shouldn't have to collect sales tax. They are just trying to keep the burden of collecting and remitting the sales tax off of themselves, and on the consumer.

That is all true except they do not want the consumer to pay tax either. If we have to pay the tax then their price looks 6-10% worse and then people will consider buying local again.

Yes, but he's still correct about the use tax being owed even if sales tax is not owed. And of course, use tax and sales tax are typically the exact same %. Just because no one actually bones up and pays use tax doesn't mean we're not supposed to...

I looked at the SK 1/2 ratchet and it's ~70 on Zoro. Seemed high so with a Google search I found it for $50 elsewher. Is Zoro worth putting together an order or do the 30% sales bring them down to the range of other sites?

Would this thread be 15 pages long if they were not worth ordering from?

On brands like Mayhew and knipex they tend to be at or below the price of other retailers. So if you are going to get those brands then it is definitely worth it. I picked up a set of Mayhew lady foot pry bars and the 16" and 22" cobra pliers during the 30% off flash sale.

Depends on the item. Zoro is hit and miss with pricing, some is good, some is great, some is laughable. Also factor in tax if you're in one of those states, for me 30% off is really ~25% after referral cash back.

If you put in the effort, you can find great deals. I would never tell someone to just buy from Zoro because they have great prices. A lot of the items are very competitive or close, so when these flash sales pop up, they become unbeatable. The customer service has been nothing but excellent for me. I am a lifelong Zoro flasher.

... except when I ordered a Miller 211 while they were still in stock, but they put my order on hold for no apparent reason, and now I have to wait 2 weeks for them to ship because it's out of stock now.

I'm still a lifelong Zoro flasher. I placed 2 orders (one with my account and my "wife's" account), second order was on my doorstep the next day.

I had to wait three weeks to get my sledgehammers because they shipped from the manufacturer, but they are nice and the price was right.

I ordered a GTO automatic gate opener. Cheapest by far over $200 plus savings. By making it solar the Govt offers a 30% tax rebate.

It is funny, I find new things that Zoro sells all the time. I wonder what would happen if they hired a real marketing team and built a functional website?

That must be what's going on with my 211 order. It just says "Pending Fulfillment".

Does zoro require a signature on their package delivery now? In the past they've just left them wherever. My SpeeDee tracking number said out for delivery Friday morning, then Friday night it had an arrival scan at the same location that it was out for delivery from 12 hours earlier.

You would have had a door tag so you could sign and allow delivery or a card to let you know where to pick it up. It could have been a mistake by the delivery driver or something in that regards.

I almost did exactly that, but opted to wait.

I bought a Malco "turbo shear". I think it was 20 to 30 bucks, and worked great finishing out the metal line in my shop. I used it in my Milwaukee 18v drill and it cut like butter.

Tools are here and my tail is waggin'!
Very happy with their sale pricing and service, they threw a catalog in the box that I'll check out later to see if it's better than the site.

Has anyone had any experience with zoro shipping by Pitt Ohio Express? When I check under tracking it says: PITTOHIOEXPRESSLTLNOTRACKING

I can see maybe the bin coming by Pitt Ohio but most everything else is small stuff. Should I expect a full size 18 wheeler to be blowing through my residential neighborhood? This is what I ordered.

G0828791 Guidepoint Drywall Bit,HSS,PK16 $14.95 $10.48
G7553481 Cordless Reciprocating Saw W/Battery,18V $329.09 $230.36
G0750976 Bin Unit,72 Bins,33-3/4 x 8-1/2 x 42 In. $125.46 $87.82
G3227542 Stubby Spade Bit Set,4 In. L,6 pcs. $13.92 $9.74
G1821233 Spiral Saw,30,000 RPM,5.0A,10 In. L $64.92

I'm not familiar with Pitt Ohio but in the Chicago area they like to use Dynamex. No tracking available for them either. If it's fairly lightweight, chances are it won't be an 18 wheeler.

It doesn't surprise me that orders would be placed on hold and then backordered. Zoro was probably absolutely inundated with orders for 211s and their system simply couldn't keep up.

I submitted my order within a minute of the sale beginning and it showed up today.

Well, I came home yesterday to find a nice Miller box prominently on display on my porch, along with 3 other boxes of goodies. I filled out the rebate form a sent it off, fingers crossed that it goes through.
