The Pursuit Of Clean

So, I don’t know these fellas in the least but saw it as an opportunity for someone. Wired Magazine joined forces with Pennzoil and they are giving away a Garage Makeover. All you have to do is submit a photo of your garage. Think ya got a chance? Give it a shot here.

uh..... don't u realize the more people see this, the more entrants there will be, and the less your chance of winning is?

Quick, someone delete this thread!

:)

Wonder if they'll take a Canadian garage.....

Did anyone else read the rules?

Judging is based on "Age and quality of current tools and motor oils (33%), Lack of space for automobile and additional products within garage (33%), and Organization of tools and additional products within garage (33%)."

wtf?

I was reading the terms and agreement of the contract, and it looks like you have to sign up and agree to texting and minutes on your cell phone. Did anyone else read this?

I'm starting a resto mod on this one... maybe they'll help... new roof happening ASAP, then slab and new sides, leaving the original Pole construction...

I would/will feel sorry for the winner of this contest! The tax value of this package is $46k and the winner will have to pay Federal, and probably state tax on too. Normally this would not be a problem BUT they are setting the value of the USE-LESS car parts ( unless you own a F1 car, or used as decorations ) at $40k! You get $5k for your garage, and $1k for the oil. So if your in a say, "low tax bracket" of 20% your in for $9200 in TAXES for the WINNER?? :shocking::shocking::shocking::shocking:

Thats hilarious. $40k for spare Formula parts and they set the max of the garage makeover at $5k. Ya can't expect much these days for $5k, especially in the garage!

hey, they're not even F1 parts, they're Indy stuff... boo hiss on this whole deal, if they pick me I'll see of they can do the $6k worth of stuff and take a pass on the Indy car parts.

zman , I'm impressed.

Not one single tire being used to hold the roof down !

Actually , it looks like you have some real potential there.
What was the original purpose of that building ? It looks like its divided into rooms on the one side.

The original owner farmed/gardened 3 fields and used it to store his tractor as well as a bunch of wood. He was woodworker as well. He had retired from the Air Force in '61, built the house in '63, supposedly the barn is early to mid 70's.
The roof is coming off this week or weekend to be replaced, It'll get metal again... depending on how much I can salvage it may get old stuff...

Hey GJ,

Thanks for posting the link. I submitted my garage. AND I WON!!!!! WOOOO!!! HOOOO!!! :bounce::bounce:

My-Garage-Pano-M.jpg

BTW, The prior post about the value of the prize and the taxes was incorrect!!! The total value of the prize including parts($3,500), oil ($1,000) and the make over ($5,000) is $9,500. So I will have to pay taxes on $9,500. But since I was planning on finishing off the garage myself anyway, I would have spent that or more in after-tax dollars. Anyway you add it up, it is less than paying/doing it your self. Rest assured I will consult my tax consultant before signing on the dotted line.

Good to hear that! The amounts I got were from the official site and its rules page. It (40k) seemed to be really high for the parts. It also said up to 5k, for the make over minus the amount of the designers fees.

Let us know how it works out for you and be sure to post some pics!

Thanks for the support!

Yes it is a personal garage. Those are all my toys. I lucked out finding this place. The garage is 30x50. It is larger than the house we moved out of!!! Plus it is on 6.5 acres with a little dirt bike/quad track out back.

$1,000 in oil is a lot. 200 quarts of synthetic. I hope they give me the 200 quarts and not just what I use in a year. :3gears: Synthetic oil has a pretty good shelf life. I have a feeling I will only get what I use. But I would rather think positive than be a hater.

I have contacted the magazine and the person in charge of the contest seems to be nice to deal with. They are real flexible on what gets done as part of the make over, which is cool. I didn't want someone saying that the garage had to be painted in Penzoil colors. :twak:

I will post pictures of the process as long as I don't step on the magazine's toes. They may not want photos posted before the article is published.

Now I am off to enter the Classic Motorsports Contest, not that I am greedy, just trying to keep this lucky streak going :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Well the first phase of the makeover is complete. I hooked up with Garage Concepts of New Jersey www.garageconceptsnj.com to redesign and declutter the garage. They did a great job. Here are some before pictures:
