Union Jack Box

We’ve featured “Txinkmans” work before and I’m never out of expletives to say about his restorations. His latest, however, is simply off the charts. I want one substituting the Union Jack for the Stars-N-Bars. How about you?

Yup. That is pretty bitchin. That leather handle and its hardware make their own damn statement too. Could think of a lot of different things for the backside.

Just to be picky/****/pedantic etc, it's the Union flag, not the Union Jack. Common mistake, no biggy.

It is known as either the Union Jack or Union Flag, has nothing to do with boats.

I thought you guys might be interested in this,

"It is often stated that the Union Flag should only be described as the Union Jack when flown in the bows of a warship, but this is a relatively recent idea. From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. Such use was given Parliamentary approval in 1908 when it was stated that "the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag".

My awareness of the proper orientation of the Union (perhaps Jack) flag has been severly enhanced. Before, I was "who knew?"; now I'm all "aw ****". Thanks guys.

I was going to mention how the flag was depicted on the box, and the origin of 'Jack', as detailed here.

First, a description of the Union Jack, more correctly the Union Flag, symbolizing the union of several countries into the United Kingdom. The name "Jack" derives from its early use as a "jack" which is the small flag flown on the bow of a ship.
