I know this stuff is priced in such a way that it really isn’t relevant to the working man’s shop, but man… Vintage Industrial has some amazing inventory of vintage industrial work surfaces. If I was insanely wealthily or if I was someone like Batman, I would stop at nothing to outfit my shop with workbenches featuring Hure bases.  But as it stands, I’m not insanely wealthy or a super hero so all I can really do is take inspiration from it all. You should too… Check it out.

That is a pretty incredible table. If you keep your eyes peeled you can find items like that for pennies on the dollar compared to their prices.

I picked up 6 of these for $10 a piece. I see them posted on similar sites (to the one you posted) for hundreds as coffee tables. In fact, a guy came to look at some Ford parts last year and his wife (whom thought she could get one over on me) tried to trade a few wood pallets for one so she could have a coffee table. I saw her eyes light up and the BS started flowing. :D

This table is cool.....I think it would be neat to have a Frankenstein looking dummy on top of it with your garage doors open....When the neighbors drive by, start yelling, "It's Alive, it's alive." :3gears:

That's absolutely beautiful! Granted, with them starting at $14.3k, they're likely only destined for hipster lofts in SoHo!

I love the style of the stuff on that site (and others), but I can't believe the outrageous prices they want for it all. We're doing a little bit of modern industrial stuff upstairs over the garage, some of it inspired from that site

Gorgeous! Would love a work bench like that, but at that price I wouldn't allow food on it. I'll stick with home made benches that I don't feel bad about making a mess on. Would love to have it though.

The concept and style is fantastic...but as others have said if you keep your eyes open and have an imagination you can save thousands!!

You can thank HGTV for that kind-of price tag. Industrial never entered a hipsters mind until they saw it on the tube.

I love the looks and styling of vintage industrial, and these pieces are no exception. But WAY over priced, you could build it for waay cheaper.

I Actually started building some modern industrial furniture and love the looks, and the price.

too bad the parts are from China...they have been selling there **** on ebay for the past year...and way way way way to pricey....if you look at old surgical tables you can use the bases for a table like this for under 2k...and all made in USA...

Oh wow, Ryan!! That is totally awesome!! I'd love to have that!! And NC Tom, I was wondering what the heck was so special about your picture until I looked down and saw what your computer was sitting on. Holy cow, dude!! That is so cool!! Thanks for showing those, guys. :thumbup:

As I understand it, very little of what they have is actually vintage, but rather new re-creations inspired by vintage industrial objects.

The finished pieces are one-off or limited production handmade items.

In that context, their pricing is in line.

Their rivet details are actual hard rivets, not carriage bolts.

Even duplicating their simple looking 308 shelf, price out the pipe flanges and pipe. That basic hardware is expensive.

Just a viewpoint from someone that has actually done some work to reimagine some of their work and priced out materials.

There is a place by me that sells a lot of that stuff for REALLY cheap. I buy it since it's over built and will probably outlast my child's offspring.

That look is really cool, but like others have said it's a hipster thing now which means a high price tag with more show than go. To me, it's more of a work of art than something you would be able to use for work. Mixing the two really doesn't make much sense to me :dunno:. Anything I have in my garage (where it belongs:lol_hitti) which can be put under the "vintage industrial" category has grease and dust on it like it's supposed to. Anyone who owns that table has a company which comes into the household once a week and has it cleaned.

Does anyone know what the correct name for the screw mechanisms is?

They have some truly awesome work on their website, the one thing I dislike though are the finishes. For $15k it seems kinda wrong to do a paint job on something like that, I think it deserves a chemical patina like bluing or one of the various finishes of that genre.

Searching for acme ready rod and acme nuts, and then for vintage looking screw jacks led me to realise that even with skills and a good budget of time, that the crank tables would still cost in excess of $5k to MAKE.
That being said, their A frame bar height tables look awesome and it wouldn't be too hard to make a table influenced by their stuff.
Totally with you though Ryan, if I had a budget big enough I would get everything that they make. The only problem would be finding a warehouse to convert to live in because it sure as hell wouldn't suit the 1920s wooden californian bungalow style house that I currently live in.

My dad used to be a draftsman and had an old draftsman table from way back and my brother actually repurposed it to make his dining room table out of . It turned out awesome, kinda looks like the one in the picture here. But his actually turns up and down and has the angled old wood for a foot rest still. Very cool. He made a hickory top to it. If I can find a pic, I'll post it up. Vintage INdustrial does make some cool stuff, but way out of my league!

Enco has the threaded rod. A 6' long threaded rod sized 1.5" is $99.00 plus shipping. The nuts for that rod are $12.00 each.

I use a local water jet shop that will take my idea off a bar napkin and make/provide the cut sheetmetal for a fair price. Without a Metal brake you will have to get creative with more pieces and fixture.

The average Yuppie living in a downtown loft doesn't know what a waterjet is. Luckily for guys like the owners of vintage industrial, that is how they make a living. God Bless America :rocker:

Joyce Dayton is a supplier for any kind of screw jack you'd like. Not cheap. I picked up two 5 ton units with 24" of travel earlier this year. I believe they were close to 5g for the two.

Now this thread is going somewhere.

HF has the metal brake cheap enough for such a project.

What would be the best or affordable material choice for water jeting the bases? Options for screw jacks?....etc. Keep in mind this is more furniture from the garage not for our garage. Lets get creative!

I have one in pieces in my basement waiting to be refinished. Picked it up years ago for $50. Hoping to make it look like this one

It's like pottery barn for men. Oh and on the "made in China" comment, this stuff is billed on their site as being built by hand in the USA.

I look for this type of stuff to use for home furnishings also, but also make some.
Here's a coffee table that I made out of an old Koken barber chair base, and an old science lab table from a recently demolished school. The center holds a 14" diameter state seal of Oklahoma, counter sunk. The lamp table shown is an antiqe Bausche and Laumbe optical surgical table in original condition. Not pictured is my dining room table, made from a Duncan Phyfe drop leaf table top sitting on a treadle/pedal sewing machine base.

For those of you that don't know, our stuff is new. Thinking it's old is the highest compliment. I designed all of it, some inspired by old stuff. It was cheaper to make it in my garage, but now we have a full blown shop with 20 employees, health care, lawyers, blah blah. So my expenses have gone up. We're in high demand, so we charge accordingly. We spare no expense making our stuff and are the top company in the world now doing vintage industrial.

Thanks for the compliments! And for those who think you can do it for $50, thank you too. We're manufacturing in America, wouldn't have it any other way. It's not about getting rich, it's about doing something we love and believe in. And we're hiring, expanding, and have a bunch of new products on the way.
