I had an attack of the dumbasses...

There was a break in the weather so I decided to put the tonneau cover back on the F350. The frame is four lengths of aluminum extrusion with pot metal corners that hold the four pieces together. The front/left corner doodad has a broken tab.
Anywho, I manage to get the frame on the bed rails & attach the four bows.
I pull the cover taut & start to press the snaps t hold it in place.
Sides were fine, no ******** way in hell was the rear going to snap in place.
Fought it for a while & then had an epiphany... all I need to do is cut a bit off the rear of each side extrusion. 1/8in might be enough. FFS.

AND...
The power went out today all over town, probably related to the sub-station we saw on fire as we drove past. However SCE has been doing maint work & turning the power off between 10pm & 6am, so it was possibly related to that as the lights were flashing this morning at 6am, even though the power was on last night.
We were out when the power went off at home
Get home from running errands...
Neither of us had house keys, garage door openers weren't working. Ended up having to break into the house... but not before breaking into the SB Honda to get a pry bar from the trunk... which of course set the horn blasting when I opened the door without the key.

Now I need to replace the + clamp on the battery & fix the security door on the side of the garage.

Wouldn’t a little sunshine eventually loosen the top enough to button it up?
You don't carry a house key with your car keys? Granted - I'm usually behind on the latest new trends with you kids but that's one I really can't wrap my head around.

I haven't carried a house key in over a decade. I'm not even sure where one might be... altho after yesterdays fiasco will be looking for it today.

You would think so, but this cover was tighter than a ducks *** when it came off. I'd rather it was easy to remove/install instead of fighting with it for an hour.
Edit:
Also, the thickness of the LineX stuff changed the fitment of the frame & brackets, so that may be the issue. It took three attempts to get the frame aligned & secured in place.

Spent about 1 hour laying under the mustang bending fuel line for the intermediate run from the front torque box back to where the fuel filter will be. Now the front section of the fuel line & the intermediate sections are made. Now I have to remove them & make bubble flare on the ends & mount thew fuel filter bracket.

Made a tool today... I call it my "Non Destructive Miniature Drive Screw Removal Apparatus Thingy"...

Wanted to remove the drive screws holding a patent plate on my Atlas head and table lift without the possibility of plate damage...
Took some dimensions and found a screw (wheel stud) and nut combination that would fit inside the gear housing...
Modified the head of the stud... Drilled a hole with my sensitive drill attachment to accept a #drill bit end...
IMG_3655.jpg

Assembled it as a miniature "jack Screw" with pin...
IMG_3659.jpg

Worked as intended...

The driveway in front of my shop/garage has become a wild turkey nightclub, of you look close at this still from my security camera, there are four toms strutting trying to impress the ladies I guess. First time I step in any poop, I will institute a raid on the fun!

The easily verified true story goes that in 1976 the Wisconsin Wild Turkey population was nearly non existent, the DNR traded some ruffled grouse to the Missouri DNR for 29 turkeys and they began repopulating various counties. Today I have a flock of over 40 at times just on my five acre parcel. While it is an amazing success story, they are loud sometimes annoying birds. I have seen estimated state wide counts into the hundreds of thousands of birds! Wow.

A Frisbee flying disk also works well for soaking a 10” blade.
I soak my saw blades in Washing Soda
Did that today, thought I was the only one that did blade maintenance. Thought about a jig to quickly touch up the carbide tips. Open to been there done that. I also give a quick coat of Teflon spray to all blades.

If you can find one, HF has a saw blade sharpener on clearance. Guess that's another kinda decent thing HF is giving up on.

Personally, I buy the cheap little 1 inch diamond wheels for the Dremel, etc, and just lightly brighten up the inserts. I'm still working on my first pack that I bought decades ago.

Day job work is slowing down probably for a little bit.

But that’s ok because I’ve been taking my weekly pay, and investing it into MY shop. My mower shop, that is.

One of the things I’ve been eyeballing is this mower lift. I initially went in for the “other” one, but they were out of stock on both. So I had to drive to another location. They had this one in stock. So with the coupon, I picked this one up.

Assembled it today.

Game changer for sure!

As prep" for the room purpose swap I needed to get the weather station put up, and to do that I needed to rpep the tower I had, (thank goodness, A suitable "weather station" pole/tower was going to be several times what I spent on the Effing weather station@ this cost me labor and 2 PVC fittings:

This was supposed to be yesterday but I got rained out so I did inside fab work and room move prep.

Tower ready to install

I had to get the 3/4" pipe mounted to the extendable antenna pole, and a ground down PVC coupling inside on the pipe keeps it centered on the south end - another modified PVC fitting in the end of the pole provides a spacer, I welded the U-bolt plate I made to the pole, so that clamps the pipe solidly.

Weather-Tower-a-top.jpg

Weather-Tower-b-top.jpg

They think this will keep the pole from moving - I think not... -not without a hole in the pole and a pointed bolt... (which WILL happen but later)

Weather-Tower-c-No.jpg

This is half the solution for a positive lock on the pole height and positioning:

Weather-Tower-d-plate.jpg

And this is the other half - I had to make thus removable, so the pole can be pulled out (since the top now has a cross piece welded on for the U bolt...) :

Weather-Tower-e-bottom-of-extesion.jpg

After a break; Weather tower up, weather station is installed and raised:

But the tower needed a foundation: so three bricks under the feet - this is weight support only, and the tower is attached to the front wall of my shed:

Weather-Tower-f-Foundaiton.jpg

And tower up - station installed, 4 pipe clamps to the main framing, (I've already climbed the triangle part of the tower 2X - it's secure)

There's nothing like a "I'll be over in 20 minutes to see your shop" text to kick one's a$$ into gear to get tidied up, I'll say that much.

I slept in a little bit this morning but still managed to make it out to the shop at a decent hour this morning (maybe 9:00ish). I hogged out the half-laps in a few more 2x4s for the shorts rack, then got a text from a friend of my Dad's who had been cleaning up his shop and had a few odds and ends he thought I might be interested in. So with him on the way, I did a hyperspeed cleanup of some of the **** that was sitting on top of the Whaler and made the garage look a bit less messy. He showed up with a pair of sanders (one ended up in the trash because it was junk), some snips, and a hodgepodge of mostly sorted hardware. I grabbed some common-sized screws that I use frequently, a box of 3" spiral nails, which in hindsight was probably not necessary, and a brand new 10" Mastercraft saw blade, still in the package. Did I need the blade, no, but it still had the wax on the teeth, so I figured it's a good spare to keep around for running through junkier pieces.

I invested in some clear totes with lids on Saturday to at least get some of the lesser-used stuff put away in a fashion that it was easily identifiable. The majority of these bins will go to the attic (paint supplies, etc.) and a few will go up high on the wall in the single stall where semi-frequent use stuff goes. I still need to hunker down and build some base cabinets and an outfeed table, but getting some of the other stuff out of the way will help.

In all honesty, the work over the last two days that I did get done, ultimately doesn't seem like much when I think about it, but it does look cleaner in there, despite the sawdust and odds and sods lying about still.

Back to today, we called my parents for Easter, and they tossed us an invite for dinner. Mom's laid up, about 5 weeks post-op knee replacement, so she was feeling a bit bummed that no one was around for Easter Sunday. We're not religious by any means, and we did get together with family on Friday, but being on a bummed leg has to have put a bit of a damper on things. So SWMBO and I headed out to my childhood home for the afternoon. Dad had a bike he was going to give to me, and while we were sorting that out, I got the bright idea that I should "borrow" my John Deere lawn tractor and the roller and take those back to roll out the lawn at home. We concluded that the bike and the bike rack would fit in the back of my car, and we could tow the lawnmower and the roller back on the trailer. This led to a few hours of work troubleshooting tail light issues (bad ground wire connection) and finally, we were off after dinner.

Got home around 8:30-9:00ish, unloaded the mower and roller into the garage, and that about takes us to now. Pretty successful weekend, if you ask me. I only really got a few before shots, so I'll share those with the afters, when I get around to taking them.

Connected the battery in my cougar, checked the fluids, and gave it the first start of the season. Took a trip to the car wash to blast off the winter's coating of garage dust, lol. Then, a short, spirited drive down some back roads "to dry it off" (as my dad would say). And parked it again.

Nice sunny Easter Day today, so I busied myself changing the oil and filters along with installing new windshield wipers on the Chevy Cobalt.

After that I glued together a couple pieces of wood forming a block to hold my Craftsman Allen T-Handles and painted it red. Nothing fancy.

Next I disassembled a small vice, derusted it, lightly polished up some of the parts, and painted it a nice Machine Gray color. Drilled a few holes and mounted it over one of the tall gray shelving units.

Then I ended the day back into the house to enjoy the great Easter dinner my wife cooked up. Ham, mash potatoes with gravy, steamed carrots, grand sized buttered biscuits and drinks. Couldn't ask for a better day. 1711945059860.jpeg1711945004404.jpeg1711944983634.jpeg

I like the telescoping masts of your weather station pole/tower!

Might need to steal that for our TV antenna!

Deere x300 tractor/mower began surging at idle. Cleaning plugs, replacing fuel filter, making sure air cleaner is ok didn't solve the problem. Anyone ever hear of Welch plugs? There are two on the twin Kawasaki carb on this x300. Researching this people have disassembled and cleaned or even replaced their carbs to no avail to then find a plug missing. I came across this strange thing called a Welch plug and their are 2 on this mower carb. Sure enough, I checked mine and their are 2 on top of the carb (looking down past the air filter). The smaller plug was missing and I read where it's common that the Kawasaki twins tend to blow these things out. When that happens it creates or resembles a vacuum leak causing the engine to surge. Replaced by setting a new one (Deere just calls it a plug) with a punch and sealing it with Loctite. Amazed at the things I don't know....:)

I had a friend who had that car, we used to beat on it, it was silver...had the turbo, but not sure of the exact year. I have a 67.
Nice. I have always had a "thing" for the fox body cougars. I have had maybe 15(?) of them over the years, lol. I plan on keeping this one though. I have had it about 15 years, and it still only has about 60k miles on it.

Last time I baked, I smelled quite the offensive odour.

I was determined to do a low and slow brisket today. But I sure wasn’t gonna smell this all day.

Grabbed some tools from the garage, and took apart the range.

Yup.

Damn.

Well, I vacuumed what I could, bleached and Lysoled the rest.

No more odour. Just pleasant smells of low and slow brisket and dry rub.

Damn mice.

I’m headed to the pound tomorrow after work (if I don’t have it off) and gettin me a couple of cats.

Looks like I have tomorrow off too. So I don’t have to wait until after work to head to the pound to pick me a feline friend or 3! (Yes, 3 factorial haha). I really really don’t like mice in the house. I know my house is a work in progress, but damn, mice. Leave me be!

As far as the rest of today, I unloaded the bolens from the bed of the truck expecting to drive to work tomorrow.

Opened the pole barn, and no room! IMG_3629.jpeg

Gotta finish the ones in the garage, then start on these to get them sold and gone.

Also realized I forgot I bought these at the flea market.IMG_3632.jpeg

$3 each. Sounds like a lot, but MY cost for these is $6.92 through my main supplier. I’m sure cheaper through Amazon (I didn’t check), but at least I have some spares for ones coming in that need them. I hate stocking inventory “just because” but if it’s cheaper than MY cost, hell yeah. I’m buyin it.

Now watch, I’ll NEVER use them…
