The last time I moved the drill presses and shaper was a little sketchy. Bought a shop crane to help with the lifting. I must be getting wiser. Can't be that I'm getting older! The lumber bits have been recycled multiple times. I will still reuse some of it, The rest will make a final contribution as it passes through the wood stove next winter.

A while back, I picked up this junk mower. The front tires were off the beads. And pretty mangled. IMG_3608.jpeg

So today, my brother came over. He helped swap rear ends from one non running mower to another running mower.

While he was futzing with THAT, I took the wheels off the bolens. Took them in the garage, and with some Murphy compound, got them to seat and air up.
IMG_3740.jpeg

There was no apparent leak, but the mower being filthy like it is, the wheels probably went flat from sitting.

Maybe tomorrow I can wheel it into the shop to drain the gas/oil mix, fix the carb, and see if she runs.

Then a good pressure wash and detail.

But at least with inflated tires, she rolls easily!

A multi year boat build finds you have a lot of "stuff" packed under and on top of the boat. One of these days I'm going to move her out of the shop. Need room.
Built a quick and dirty 6x14 shed- from the cull cart at big box and old wood lying around and lexan from the boat. At some point it'll get moved over to another property.
Of course the winds were blowing 30 to 40- sure didn't sweat much! Could not finish in 1 day, doors on the second and packed it full. Stained after rain finished..I'm slipping....IMG_8352.jpegIMG_8353.jpegIMG_8375.jpegIMG_8414.jpegIMG_8978.jpeg

Yesterday I was going to take 5 minutes and adjust the clutch on my old tractor. When I spun the adjusting rod something fell off inside the bell housing. No acess panels to see whats going on.

So after screaming a friend and I split it today. I found the clutch fork pivot was broken. Its supposed to have a 3/8 thread off the bottom but its broken off in the bell housing.

Got the heat gun out and did some clearancing on the CX30 inner fenders. Tires were rubbing pretty bad after I installed the lift kit. On a whim I looked under the rear wheels. Good thing, tire was rubbing on the lower pan/body. Took a 3lb hammer to round the seam over a bit. Seems to be much better now.

Did a bit more organizing on open bins above workbenches. Hard to look another 40 years ahead to guess at what will be most needed, but so easy to re-configure I'll just have to tough it out. Current worry is how much 10.9 hardware I seem to have. Thought it was only a few bins worth between the 8.8 and 12.9.

Most fun was teaching our 12YO GS how to measure and correct flatness. Also, engineer friend visited and offered him his collection of square drive auger bits, so we ran out to our farm where he has most of his tools stored and sadly found that his helpers had packed and shipped all the loose tools to his retirement home in BC.

After having this kind of winter...
Snow.jpg

I decided I was done having my snow blower feet getting pinned to every little crack, rock and lifted-by-tree-roots-bump in the driveway. So I welded on some skis. Was thinking we were going to get one more big storm, but all we got were a few with an inch or so that melted by the next day. I'll let you know next winter how these work out ;-):
SnowBlowSkis.jpg

Nice. I modified my skids early on in the winter as well. Added some much thicker high carbon steel to try and minimize the amount of wear, as I have much more concrete at our new home compared to our old.

Mine are just mild steel so I'm thinking of sanding the paint off the bottom of the skids and tig brazing some silicon bronze wear strips to them.

Up graded my Bradley Smoker with a 1200 W Tempco Heating Element and an Auber PID

Did a pork loin first then tonight smoked a couple Tri-Tips. Normally folks grill them, but I smoked them at 230 for 3 hours. Wrapped them in foil and let them rest for an hour. Vacuum sealed one and froze it. Cranked up the gas grill and reverse seared the other one to serve for dinner. Served with loaded potato salad and spinach salad with vinaigrette, dried cranberries, and blue cheese.

Garage adjacent:
Jacked up the ST & removed all 4 wheels. Pressure washed wheels & inside the wheel arches/fenders/suspendies/brakes etc.

IMG_20240415_105622597.jpg
This was due to *someone* (not me) driving down a flooded mud/dirt road a couple of weeks ago which resulted in enough dirt under the ST to grow a 1/2ton of taters.

IMG-20240415-111823169.jpg

Picked up the front floor mats for the F350 & installed those.
Gave the tonneau cover a good clean.

IMG_20240415_132937200.jpg

And then I set off one of those Mequiars "Air Refresher" bombs inside it to try to rid it of "Old Truck Smell". Pretty much like tenting a house for roach control...

It said "new car smell" on the can... but smells more like the ******** perfume counter at Macy's. I'm hoping it does kinda lessen some. I left the windows open for the past hour.

 I have tried two or three things that say new car smell. None smelled very good or at least did not smell like a car. I wound up using one that was not offensive, but definitely did not smell like a new car, as a kind of a garage deodorizer.

Had some Fun times in the shop recently.
1983 Jetta had a low tire. Found leaking valve stem, easy nuff, new stem installed. Well, didnt feel like the valve was tightening in New stem.
And then....... SPOOOsh! the brass guts blew out the the NEW stem. Another New stem... Good this time.

Did first mow last week, house smelled like gasoline the next day. Old mower has a pinhole in gas tank. Mower is tired and I have a spare engine... Just swap it, 20 min job. Engine off in 5 min and pulled the blade holder.
HMMM, shaft on old engine longer than the replacement.
Old engine back on.
And to Save time once again, I'll swap the tank and carb as one unit. Done! and now wont start.
OK old carb on New used tank. Should work... it did run before! Nope.
Pulled spark plug, wet.. Cleaned and dried. No workie.
Pulled spark plug Again, Wet... Cleaned and dried. It sputtered.
Pulled spark Plug AGAIN, wet... cleaned and dried and It Work, It Works!!
Yeah old engine was rolled around, flipped and what not, because I didn't think it was going back in initially. Also do not think it was the Other carb, after the 3 spark plug cleanings.
2 Hours later the 20min job was DONE.

Today my Cheapest Chinese 200A HF Tig welder on Amazon arrived. Unpacked it and plugged it in to make sure it powers up.
A buddy came over, showed him the Tig and a few other cool projects. Laughed at my previous antics.
Started talking about SHtuff and went to show him a few things on the internet.
Now the Shop WiFi not working.
Just spent the last hour trying to figure out WhyTF the shop internet no workie. Everything in house is up and speedy. Wet rainy day so that is in the back of my mind. Shop is powerline ethernet. After turning things off and On again I come back into shop... I Find Chinesium high frequency Tig was left On. Turn off and magically the internet works again. Wonder how many times I'll go through that once I start learning to use the Tig.

Got this cool Sign to fix up. Wish it was mine but it's only visiting.
Cleaned it up and got it working. New bulbs too since it is brittle and kinda hard to get apart.

Also buttoned up this Mercedes for a friend. 1980 European 280SL hard and soft tops. 4spd trans and hand crank windows, small bumpers and big emblem grill. Pretty cool one for being in USA. Ran like garbage, new injectors and fuel filter got it dialed in. But didn't last long, another fuel filter and tank screen. Told him to put some miles on it and see what happens. Filter #3 and Then the rad sprung a leak. Odd rad for being 4spd, no trans cooler... Had a nice used one shipped from UK. Rad installed with no issues and did fuel filter #4 just to be sure. Off to find a new home it goes...

Couple of goodies showed up today.

First the ignition control for the 5518 IMG_3751.jpeg

Installed it, and no spark still. Bummer. Gotta do more investigating.

The muffler for my main mower, my Ariens, showed up as well. IMG_3752.jpeg

It’s a LOT quieter now. I wonder WHY!?!? Lol

So while not a LOT done, still SOMETHING. just wish the 5518 lit off. That would have been cool.

I bought a 2 year old car that must have been driven by an old fogie smoking stogies. Multiple spray bombs and frequent cabin filter changes finally overcame that nauseating stench.

Unfortunately, I don't remember which worked best.

Got the mt bike out today for the first ride of 2024. I'm finally saying good bye to ski season and embracing riding season.
Unfortunately, the bike squeaked and creaked and shifted like **** so afterwards I put it up on the bike stand and tore into all the moving/shifting/pedaling parts.....lots of old dirt and grime...went through a bunch of simple green and rags and put in a new bottom bracket and now it's quiet and shifts when and how it's supposed to...
