Everything sat outside for 30 years(except the screwdriver, it was in another pile of scrap so it might've been a later addition). Vise isn't just seized, it's fused together with rust. That said it's actually in decent shape for something that's been in the elements for so long. Dynamic arm isn't visibly cracked like most I've seen in this pattern.

Challenge is getting it in working order again and attempting to date it. Currently it has no identifiable markings so it's likely a no stamp but I'm curious if anyone has any guesses towards a maker.

Skipped the monthly sale last month, didn't sleep well and it was raining, this month, still raining but I slept well 😁

Top left looks like a glasses case, but it's a cross pen case, empty but didn't have this style before so added it to the small Irish made cross pens collection.
Green is a book by Bernard O'Hara 'Mayo' history of my county and a book on the islands of the coast of my county, getting to quite an extensive collection of local history books, but seldom post those here even with most of them being bought secondhand.
Small vice, looks to have a makers stamp, but needs a clean, secateurs aluminum, well made but no makers mark. Had been borrowing my wife's while working on clearing ditches on our land, these well replace those. Pry bar with makers name, needs a clean, and lastly just an old chisel, just because.
Happy with my day, gathering was small due to the rain, but glad I got out.
20240929_104735.jpg
Makers name on the pry bar, not a massive help, the logo on the vice, is just a 'D' I think. Seen these before, so I'll research a little more on it.

My guess is Athol/Starrett. I think I’d scrape as much rust off as I could and then submerge it in Metal Rescue or EvapoRust.

A quick trip to my local car boot sale first thing this morning.

Two aluminium oil filter sockets. A no name 87mmx16 and one made by Matador for Mercedes with a Merc part number.
A Tone Japan 3/4" drive dual marked socket 24mm and 15/16". Unusual.
A Halfords 1/2" drive 10mm 6pt socket.
A Proto 5412 1/2" drive12mm socket. UK Govt. surplus with property mark and 1994 date.
A no name 1/2" drive 10mm bit hex bit holder. I actually wanted one of these. the detent ball is missing but is easily replaced.
A Great Neck 7/16x3/8" DOE that looks unused. I normally would have passed on this but I added it to the group.
A no name 10mm hex 6mm bit.
A very good 1/2" sq MO-Max Cobalt lathe tool. £1.

Everything else was £2 from a guy that I have bought from in the past. He has had a load of good stuff at very good i.e. cheap, prices. He just wannts/needs to be rid of it all. He has more to come when he has sorted out more tool boxes at home. Watch this space.

You know that gm trash can is giving some gm guy the sweats right now just looking at it. It’s actually pretty cool! And I can believe you didn’t want to go to that sale. Looks amazing just off the picture of the “sun” room!
The Estate sale company posted a LOT of pictures of what he had online. And he had lots of really good stuff! I knew if I went there, especially on the first day of the sale, that I would end up buying way more stuff than I needed.

We are buying new furniture for the living room in preparation for the holidays, so my tool funds are limited at the moment. ☹️

It was truly an awesome sale, I'm sure that a lot of people came away satisfied.

Small vice, looks to have a makers stamp, but needs a clean,
I love how low profile it is! Not just small, but "short". Do you see what I mean? It's so squat that I don't even want to call the jaw section a "tower." And the design, with the raised diamond/spark shape on the side, is splendid.
Pry bar with makers name, needs a clean,
Almost certainly EnFo (English Ford), which is a very nice find!

On the vice, I do indeed see it, it reminded me of a gressel vice when I first saw it. Added the finished vice below with it's height, which is 1.5 inch, coincidentally that's the same as the jaw width. Excuse the metric, I would have to go digging to find an inch ruler.
On the pry, damn you guys are good...

MrsLS&I slept in a bit later than usual today, under dawn-dimming cloud cover, eventually making the drive down to Jake’s Flea, which was very lightly attended.
IMG_3374.jpeg
I picked up a 10” Bonney S-adjustable for $5
IMG_3373.jpeg
and a 3-1/2oz Vaughan & Bushnell Mfg Co Chicago USA ballpein for $1.
EDIT- from their 1920s catalog, seems like it is probably 4oz. I intend to rehaft, as it’s been cut down to 8”, so I’ll weigh it if I find my postal scale.
EDITEDIT- yep, 4oz.
IMG_3384.jpeg
Catalog says it should be 11” handle. I have two 10” unused options and a used 12” option, but it has an unsolved mystery stamp.
IMG_3386.jpeg
IMG_3385.jpeg
I had several other items in hand, but wasn’t really thrilled by any of them.
IMG_3369.jpegIMG_3367.jpeg
Among the left-behinds was a slipjoint pliers with just —B— marked on it. I lost interest in it because one of the handles needing realignment. I also had a Bergen Buffalo pliers with curving angled jaws and teeth that looked like they were for gas fittings, but neglected to take a picture.

2 weeks ago I was in one of those neighborhoods with no zoning, grandfathered in homes where every yard had 20 faded little tike toys and a couple Pits that looked hungry.
At one, there was a yard sale in the future sign that I noted & returned on the date of.
The hoarder trailer was being gutted, a roll-off dumpster was filled to overflowing, a rollback wrecker was pulling some of the 10 cars out of the overgrown bushes, but I headed down the hill to a cinder block building where sign said "Free coffee & donuts with purchase"!
What a mess,,,,but free donuts!

Under the mouse pee saturated cardboard box stacks, I found a few gems to bring home.

A Kennedy 275 5 drawer now cleaned up. For $35.
Brake cleaner at a buck each.
Synthetic oil at 2 bucks each.

P1010008.JPG
A mean tempered Klein Chicago grip-latch puller that has given me a blood blister on the palm for 50 cents.
Craftsman hatchet for $5.
And the Bonney Spud and Williams bridge clamp were inside the Kennedy box hidden inside the fiberglass mouse house so were "free".

P1010011.JPG

And lastly this reasonably priced Wilton carpenter vise saving the rust for later.

Just getting caught up after returning from Peru on Friday. Departures to the US are in the wee hours from Lima. Only a 6-hour flight, but takeoff at 1 a.m. after being up all day and then being squashed against the window with no way to stretch out, makes 12-hour missions in the B-52 seem comfy. My only purchase was a bottle of Peruvian Black Whiskey made from Andean Black Corn from the duty free store.

Estate sale ($15): Delta 40-560 scroll saw; Stanley no. 6C fore plane (type 16); Wm. Johnson 6" blacksmith scribe.
You know you ****!
Then there was the $30 walnut Gerstner I picked up at an estate sale.
A $30 Gerstner in great shape?? You ****! What model is it?
I knew it was a Wilton vise, but didn't know what model. I asked the owner if it was available and his reply was "take it".
****! ****! ****!!!

How were the donuts? You **** for the Kennedy roller!

You're smart for snatching up the brake cleaner and synthetic oil for cheap. That's a substantial savings verses making those purchases at the auto parts store. Everyone here must think I'm stating the obvious but I can't tell you how many times I've shown up late at an estate sale and those items are untouched and ignored by the earlier buyers. Some sellers have even given me slightly used containers for free.

Proto flare nut, 3 like new air wrenches, Snap On ratchet adapter, no name just made in USA and patent # locking extension.

Snap On Craftsman and Easco ratchets. Snap On impact sockets. Tiny Huot index and drills.
Starrett inside mic. Snap On spark plug KV analyzer, 1970s Eagle Scout sterling set. Boxwood and brass square, rule that I can't remember the maker right now lol.

@jb books , any chance you could take a pic of the drawer supports on the inside of the MAC? Picked up a taller end-cap with drawers, looks to have the same top edges. Trying to establish a brand on mine. Are you saying it is MAC because of the sticker, or other markings?

Swung buy the estate sale of a lifelong unlicensed handyman. Scored a pretty little bevel gauge, a flush cut saw, and this absolute unit of an adjustable wrench. Tightest, smoothest action I've seen on an adjustable and heavy enough to use as a sledge. Plus, a 70's promotional screwdriver with magnet, which is probably the most useful tool in existence. $17 total.

Went to a local estate sale this weekend that advertised having tools. I waited a week and finally when the day came I woke up early and hit the road despite the nasty weather which I think scared off many people and they also opened the first day on a Friday. When I arrived I stopped at the garage and made a nice pile of tools. I picked a few small bags of tools already marked on a table and a couple socket trays and bits on a pegboard wall. There way a huge tote of tools and every tool was $1 each. I immediately see the Craftsman duckbill pliers and I'm thinking this is all going to be good stuff so I ask how much on the entire tote. I get it for $40 which was a steal. It did take me more than a couple hours to sort through it all since it was all haphazardly placed. A ton of neat stuff to be found. The man who passed away was a technician for Bell which explains all of the neat Bell Systems branded stamped tools. There was all sorts of phones, telephone equipment, test gear, electronics, etc. He didn't throw things away and would take things back home that were being scrapped at work. I had zero competition for tools and even picked up a bunch more on the second day. I even left a bunch of Craftsman and other great tools behind since I had so much and was pretty overwhelmed with all of this. There was a whole house and basement full of stuff. The handful of people there all went to our own separate ways. I seen other buy some vintage toys, Geiger counters, books, an airplane propeller, etc. There was even a room with all sorts of vintage cameras but definitely don't need another expensive hobby. All in I have less than $300 into everything counting gas and breakfast. I didn't feel the need to haggle on the price at all. Pretty much all the cash I had on hand and I know how hard I worked to get that money in particular so I'm glad I got to stretch that money on things I can use and just things for my collection. This is my second big tool estate sale this year. Maybe I'll post the other one here as well.

Went to a sale yesterday at a McMansion--not something I would normally go to but my wife wanted to check out a 4-slice toaster. The toaster was overpriced but I found copies of British vintage motor cycle magazines from the 1990's at a buck apiece. I have a small collection of BSA's and these will make great toilet reading.

@jb books, @JMP & @alinc100 all **** for sheer tonnage!

On the other hand, @gleman may need to take a remedial math class.
$50 for 3-seat couch = $16.67 per seat.
Three years of wear and tear later he pays three times the per/seat price for an additional single seat.
Max outlay should have been ≤ $20 if the chair swivels and the neighbor is cute!

It was still in storage where we left it!

There's four or five funiture consignment shops close to me in FL. I waited 2 years looking for a swivel glider to show up and ended up buying a new one. That hit me in my frugal feelings!

I have a sectional to buy this winter and I should be set for twenty years barring disasters.
