I dug the sleds out of the woods and hauled them in to thaw yesterday. Today, I checked a couple things, lifted the tracks off the ground, and blew the cobwebs and leaves out with 8-year-old gas.
IMG_5003.jpeg
Now I need to grease some things, change the diamond drive oil, the injector oil looks like it probably absorbed some moisture, the plugs are undoubtedly fouled, one dash won’t light up, and I still haven’t fixed her one hand warmer. But they run!
We were both more agile in 2016 when we stuffed these Cats in the woods out of the way to concentrate on stuff like roofs and insulation and windows and doors and power/gas/plumbing and full time jobs. Now we have a little more free time but no inclination to boondock or highmark or even trailride, so these will probably go down the road without us.

Two fewer things to occupy my shrinking bandwidth.

I once knew someone who desperately wanted to buy a brand new black car because it wouldn't show the dirt. I tried to 'splain...
My current sbox is black, through no fault of my own. It was the only car in a 50 mile radius with the size and drivetrain I wanted for trailering what I tow. It looks good about 2 days a month. The day I wash it, and the day after the rain. Since we had no rain here for about 3 months, well, you can imagine what a lovely crusted mess it was. It's finally getting a good wash today.

Wish I could've found a medium silver one. They don't show any crud.

And gold. I had a gold Lincoln Mark VIII back in the day, and it never looked dirty.

My old Pinto wagon in a light metalic brown/tan was good about not showing dirt. the Red Coup and most of my other vehicles, not so much.

Also good was the truck I camoed, and my 47 PU with every shade of primer...

Changed the oil in the zero turn, did not feel like changing the hydro oil, and wanted to finish the latest project. Turning a Craftsman 25444 router table into a table saw router table insert. Picked up the table for $8 at the ReUse store.

Removed the legs, built a frame out of scrap angle, fitted as an extension table on the table saw. The bolts are from the original TS parts bag (I've owned the TS since new, 1997). It will need some fussing to get it perfectly level. The wood insert will likely be redone. The router table is not centered on purpose, leaving a longer in-feed side. There is a miter and a fence. I will re-do the fence. The slots in the frame for the attachment bolts weaken the frame (could not use just holes), so I will reinforce with the same angle iron on the bottom. BTW, the angle iron is from a packing crate, is light gauge, but fits perfectly in this application.

In the first two pics the table and frame are resting on top of the attachment bolts. The levels were clamped to the table, then the router insert clamped to the levels.

I finished a couple larger projects last week and I am now trying to finish a small one.

Cut slots in the side of this box to accept the decorative splines.
Of course, I first had to modify the sled I thought I had ready to use.
IMG_4814.jpeg

Gluing the splines in to place a few at a time.
IMG_4820.jpeg

While the glue was drying on the splines, I installed pads on the bottom of the feet on my old Delta bandsaw.

Installed 1 of 4 FlexiMounts overhead storage racks… need to snap a pic or two as evidence but after much internal debate I went with the “store bought” overhead racks and I plan to build the lower/wall shelves workbench myself to get my own made-for-purpose kind of fit.

Install was pretty straightforward if anyone is considering something similar.

Some of us here on Garage Journal are here for the garage, not for shiny trucks.

Not only do I not want to spend hours keeping a vehicle shiny, I'm not willing to endure a black vehicles trying to broil me to death on a warm, sunny day. But some folks are into that, and we don't kink shame here.

Much.

Didn’t get to run the snowblower much as some snow angel did everyone’s sidewalk and a shitload of our driveways before I even got out to mix up some premix.

notice a difference?

83811866-D131-4BBF-A689-75ACD21CFCE5.jpeg

sure need to get a <100mL measuring cup for mixing pre mix

Then

Frame is now plated and cleaned up. Sure love that bendable YesWelder torch for getting into tight spaces, will lay down a light coat of silicone on top to keep water out of pinholes And a coat of paint in the morning. Then it’s get on going thru my doubler instructions and follow it all over again, replace all wrong pieces with the right stuff. then hope i have all the pieces for up at the Center consiole.

plating the frame notch was not easy due to link mounts being in the way and at angles. Ain’t the prettiest job but Oh well it’s all hidden by this and that.

once the doubler is back in, then I should be able to think either
the tcase mount and related cross member or start on the transmission shifter under there.

either way shits coming off the table Or better yet the floor.

I got 3 sheets of 5/8" 4x12' type X (fire rated) drywall on the ceiling today.
Well, one is not screwed up there yet - it's still sitting on the panel lift. But it was time for my afternoon nap so I left it as is.

Have three more 12' and four 10' sheets left to go. If the weather holds I'll be able get the rest up and taped 1st coat with Durabond yet this week.
Working alone, a guy has to come up with various contrivances to get things done.
I got the rest of the drywall hung in my shop. About 640 sq ft in all.
Next is to blow in 40 bags of cellulose insulation. My neighbor says he'll feed the blower for me.

I like a clean truck, but I do not obsess over it. I wash it when it gets dirty & it gets a wax once a year. No more black vehicles for us, once was enough. That truck got washed almost daily when I owned it back in the 80's/90's. I was lucky enough to work at a car dealer that had a wash booth so that made it easier to keep clean.

Make sure you've got the borate cellulose vs the ammonium sulfate one. The sulfate product offers slightly less fire retardance, and a lovely kitty pan smell in hot, humid weather.

You need yourself one of these. You can get at most bike shops and online. I only used this link because it has pics of both sides of the cup. I consider this a must have tool. https://westcoastsaw.com/products/r...1P7Zs508s1ILUZ5Wf2eN4oJ5boPve3tturChOp3aa_MUB

Be sure he keeps you up to date on bags left. My brother "helped" me by loading the blower, I left specific instructions of when I was half way out of bags of insulation. He didnt, I had to go buy more to get things evened out. My Mrs was not happy having to load the blower the next day.

Cleaned, flung, put away. Got the winch mess off the metal bench. Broke a pair of diags. Potchked around with the dead NWA dust collector motor. Put it out in the car, alive. Burned a bunch of decoration display bases. Led an NWA board meeting. Made lists.

Now you've done it...showing a clean workbench is setting the bar unreasonably high for the rest of us.... 😀

Added to my Amazon cart! Trial and error with this snowblower then I will paint pen exactly what I need for it. Different colors for other ratios but only for a full one gallon tank. I keep the 4 gallon can over off behind the man door. Fresh ethanol free stuff every winter for the Bronco, Generator and Snowblower.
