Just scheduled delivery for the other two propane furnaces, that will clear up some space!

Going to try and make it to the dump today, then I can load all the tires up and get those gone later this week. I have at least two more scrap runs to make, then I am into the stuff that will take more time to break down again. With the weather forecast for the next week, I can kind of make things work in the random order that makes the most sense, at least in my head. Some of the stuff that I want gone is actually causing a big old log jam in my productivity, but in a mental way, so having it gone will be awesome!

The Hyster forklift at the Hill would not start at all this morning, at first I thought the batteries were dead, but they had 12.43 volts, then I thought the disconnect was bad, nope. I used some jumper cables to ground the starter better, nope. Then I remembered that this engine had a clacky clacky fuel pump and it wasn't clacking. I then went to the ignition switch, guess I should have started there, but it was intermittent before this. A jumper wire and it starts right up, I thin this was always the issue, going to order a new one. I probably will check the other forklift for the same issue, but it has been starting fine lately, well, I haven't started it since the cold set in, that is always a challenge as it has no coolant, so I can't plug it in. Anyways, I am off to the Salvage Garage to see what trouble I can cause.

I have one of those magnetic block heaters that I use on the oil pan on my blower tractor when it gets really cold. That might help a bit for your cold blooded forklift? I know it's not as good as a coolant heater or a plug in block heater but it does help. And it's portable so you can use it on different machines.

I would have to clean all the leaking oil off to do that stuff...

This engine has a leaking main seal, more like a gusher, then it has no coolant because if you put coolant in it, it fills the oil pan in about an hour. The plan is to rebuild it, but that plan started a couple years ago. I suspect once the BFF is functional I will feel more comfortable digging into the engine. Right now it is the largest capacity forklift that is functional at the Salvage Garage (8k pounds). The Hyster at the Hill is a 14k pound capacity and because I know that it will drive up and down the hill to the quonset hut, it is going to stay there as being capable of doing that is really good. I have the military forklift as well, that is good for the rough and tumble stuff. I am not sure how many forklifts I am going to have when everything shakes out, but I suspect there will be more than I really need. The trouble is that not one of them does everything I need to do and transporting the BFF is not something I want to do on a regular basis. Ultimately I would like to upgrade the military forklift to the newer version (4 wheel steer and 12' lift), then I would find a tele handler that is good for at least 6k. That would cover the rough terrain aspects and both would still be easy enough to transport. The BFF would stay at the SG and be the heavy lifting unit, then I would have the 8K Hyster for general outdoor use as the BFF will be slight overkill for loading a pickup truck. The Hill will see the 14k Hyster as a permanent resident and the army forklift and the tele handler will float between shops depending on what is going on. Then I have the inside forklifts, but those don't really count...

Got down to 24 a little while ago, cold enough, we can stop now.
Was 21 this morning, up to a whopping 35 degrees and now we are getting some flurries/light snow. Much fun standing around waiting on water to drain out of the RV so I can winterize it.

Have you considered getting a tracked loader and a pallet fork attachment? At least it would be good for mixed terrain use, and serve other purposes when not being used as a forklift.

I am not a skid steer guy, never have been, probably never will be. If I were to consider one, it would have to be a side door style and big enough that I can comfortably sit it in it. Even then, I prefer tires as all my yards get ripped up when trying to turn anything with tracks.

Sell all the randomness and get something on this order!! Lol

Just a thought.

While it might not do everything you need, it might do the vast majority.

JCB also makes a robot teleskid that's looks pretty neat too. Side door and telescoping boom, on tracks.

I can understand the fitting into part :) I've worked around several guys that can fly around on those things, get tons of dirt placed in a hurry, they were all skinny short guys :)

A good operator is worth the machine’s weight in gold, I hire people to do that. I don’t think you could find someone these days to run some of my equipment, Clark or the Mitsu would make all the joystick crowd cry after using them. Heck, even I feel like I was boxing after a few hours in the Mitsu.

I will eventually upgrade to a telehandler, but it probably will be an addition, not a consolidation. A forklift is a unique tool, you can add forks to just about anything, but it still won’t be a forklift.

I just got to the Hill, not much colder than yesterday, looks like Wednesday into Thursday we are going to get some white stuff with possible rain mixed in. It gets a bit colder until Sunday, then things warm up and high temps will be in the mid 40s again. Other than some overnight precipitation, next week looks decent and that should allow me to get things were they need to be.

It is shocking.

I got the first load off, now I am getting things started at the Salvage Garage, going to load up the furnaces and some other things on the tilt trailer so it is ready for delivery this afternoon. Then I have to take the bigger dump trailer and get that emptied out so I can load it up with tires. Lots of moving parts, but today should actually make the biggest looking dent in things.

Do you have to slice the sidewalls out of your tires for disposal? We can take them to the dump any time if we do that, otherwise you have to wait until they have one of their tire disposal days where they set out a big dumpster to collect them. Also annoying that I have to pay a tire disposal fee when I buy a set of tires even if I keep the old ones.

They just charge $300 a ton to get rid of them any tire, rims, etc. If it was worth the effort to remove all the rims, I would, but some of them will be much more cost effective to send them with the rim. I do have some that need the centers of the rims cut for a project, so that will knock off some weight. Ultimately it is more about getting them gone than it is about the money.

Off to the dump, then I can start getting tires loaded, I need to move some anyways as they are blocking in my waste oil tank for the Hill. Going to make a pitstop at the Hill to grab a couple random tires. I have to be rolling out with the furnaces at 3PM, so I have to be quick about this, it is already 12:15!

My electrician was concerned that the furnaces were fresh air only because of the blower motors and duct work, I had sent him all the model info and pictures and thought he had looked up the unit to make sure it was what he wanted. Anyways, they are still on the trailer at the moment. I did go through the manual that I had and it just shows two styles, one is wide open with no duct work and the other is the style with duct work. Nothing about fresh air, just that is you want to use duct work to direct the air, you have to use the squirrel cage style blower, not the propeller style fan. Hopefully he can confirm and we can still get this done, but I am afraid I will have to unload them again tomorrow as I had planned to use the trailer to shuffle more stuff around. :(

I am about done for the night, not a lot more that I can do to be productive at this point anyways.

@zanyad - It was just a bit of joshing and I hope your response is in kind.

I swear I don't know how you folks with real weather endure it. I'm amazed and impressed by all that you put up with and accomplish in spite of the weather. Having to change wheels, blow out sprinklers, deal with boilers, etc. I could not do that.

I am definitely a warm climate person.

I didn't get anywhere stuff yet, nothing that stuck anyways. It did get wet and it is going to get really cold and windy for the next couple days. I am trying to get a few things done at the Salvage Garage, made a huge dent yesterday, but have a ton more effort to put in. I can't spare too much time as I have to get to the Hill to finish up things, I did some stuff last night, but it started raining around 9PM and I wasn't keen on getting wet.

I have a trip ready for the scrap yard, was going to get rid of an old counterweight, but I just couldn't do it, so it lives on for the time being.

Started snowing, but it is wet stuff so it sounds like rain. I think I am going to be a wuss and just do what I can inside. I only have two things that I would like to get inside at the SG and two three things at the Hill. I think I can make all that happen today. I have already made a large clear area inside. Now I have to take apart some hydraulic lines and drain some cylinders, I know it will make a mess, but I need to do it.

I got everything I wanted inside, a bit precariously stacked, but inside was all that really mattered. Temps are going to really plummet tonight and I didn't want to destroy everything that has water in it, so the pesticide tanks are inside, one on top to the waste oil tanks, the other just in the bay. I will have to post pictures tomorrow, I am headed home now.

It definitely doesn’t feel as cold as they claimed it would. I am still happy to be in the office today. I do have to drop off some recycling that is now frozen cardboard, just went to the bank and the teller tried to give me an old $100 bill, I told her that she needed to swap it out as I wouldn’t spend it because it was worth keeping. Then she asked me if I wanted some old $10 bills, got one 1950 star note and one 1950 non star, the star note is worth about $40, so I bought both of them. I really need to get into money flipping, would be easier on my back.

I've seen guys on YT going into Banks and checking out their coin storage looking for OLD rolls with SILVER coins in them. I never considered old bills.

Several years ago while I was at the hospital snack bar and I received 2 pre-1965 quarters back in change from the cashier. Nothing sounds like those old coins. Somebody raided the coin jar before visiting a friend at the hospital is my guess. I have 2 pill bottles full of junk-silver coins in my top dresser drawer - CLEARLY LABELED AS "JUNK SILVER - DO NOT SPEND".

Cheers

I found another star note in my wallet today. I guess I am going to start looking at things a bit more.

It is chilly today, was planning on office work, but the internet is down and what I wanted to do was almost entirely cloud based. I am going to get my own server setup sooner, stuff like this keeps happening to me and the way things keep happening, I am going to get myself into a mess if I don't. Besides, I would like to setup a server for the movies anyways and that makes work and play into a tangled project that I would more or less enjoy.

I built my own, and use Unraid, which I found to be fairly easy to set up. Plenty of information and tutorials out there if you decide to go that route. You'll also want to look into a UPS!
