Nope, sorry. Guessing 3bay didn't want to spoil it, but Mintgrun (in the Vintage toolbox thread) correctly IDed it first.

Craftsman Heritage Hand Tool Cart
From what I can find, looks like it was offered from Fall/Winter 1948 thru Fall/Winter 1949. Doesn't appear in the 1948 Hand Tool Catalog, and price dropped each catalog (down to 13.50 in F/W 1949) before it disappeared. No drawer slides to speak of, and the locking mechanism is simply a U shaped piece that slides into cutouts on the side. I have seen one other in 11yrs, and kick myself for passing on it. Looking back, think it has been painted, as it was closer to the hammered silver of the later toolboxes (this is the same dark blue/gray as others from the era).

Picked up for the princely sum of $40 (and a 1.5hr drive each way). Now I just need to find the matching top box...

Agreed. Shipping weight of 45# means it must have had 25+# of packaging...

I only know of a few around, probably because it wasn't the best seller back in the day. It does seem decently sturdy on mine (though a large board attached to the back to stop stuff falling out of the back may have helped). Not toolbox sturdy, but at least as sturdy as a tool stand.

That thing was decently strong. I had probably 60-80 ratchets between the two drawers and a heavily loaded Kennedy chest on top. I did catch it from tipping once. Must have been both drawers opened.

Very nice. I didn't think it was the Snappy, as the drawer orientation was wrong, but figured what the heck. There is one of those sitting on marketplace near me, but with a bad paintjob, and I am not enough of a C-man fan to try and bring it back.

That one is rough enough that even our mutual craftsman fan friend wont attempt that rescue :)

Catching up from the weekend. ***** for the following:
we were at a Goodwill shortly after it opened and they rolled out a cart with various stuff on it and I noticed the tools, which I never see there. $21 and change

Walking Ghost today and a curbside find was a Klein Bag stick out of the trash container at the curb. Inside was a Dewalt Impact 20v, Milwaukee bit set, Ryobi drill and battery(not pictured) and a unmarked ballpeen hammer. The Dewalt battery charged fine ,haven't went downstairs to check the Ryobi yet but lights on charger were positive.

Estate sale ($50):
...
Otts and sots.

I just paid $30 (sellers asking price) for two boxes (one SAE and the other metric) filled to the brim with vintage wrenches.

Whole bunch of randoms for 5 bucks.

I knew it was 40's and Craftsman but I couldn't find a picture online to confirm.

Just picked up a bunch of stuff after work. Offerup transaction that I thought was gonna fall through, ended up working out last minute although I was debating whether to bail due to shifting availability and a long drive. Glad I didn't!

This stuff was listed at a buck a piece or $75 for all. Initially intended just to grab some of the big combo wrenches and a few Snap on bits I saw in the pics but when I got there and started picking through the 3 loaded drawers it took about 20 sec for me to buy all of it. :ROFLMAO:

Here it is in the bottom of a 25 gallon tote. Probably 50 pounds or so.

IMG_7471.jpg

Sockets...S-K top left, Snap on bottom left, Craftsman metric top right and SAE bottom right. There are quite a few big metric sockets in there and I'm sure I'll have 4 or 5 sets of the Craftsman stuff once I add the gaps. There's an S-K SAE impact set with no skips from 1-1/16 down to 9/16 or so. The stuff not on the lid is foreign stuff that goes in the Goodwill pile. I did keep the funky "Stride USA" line wrenches.

IMG_7473.jpg

The wrenches. Lots of Craftsman SAE, fair bit of Craftsman metric, some big full polish K-D USA metric combos, Snap on, S-K. Lots of full polish stuff which is always easy to flip:rocker:

IMG_7474.jpg

Craftsman

IMG_7475.jpg

The rest

IMG_7476.jpg

Now I gotta clean all this stuff! Just when the death pile was getting manageable...

So an update/anecdote to a GJ post here somewhere(maybe/maybe not GS thread) A member here was looking for some Craftsman keys and ,while new keys are available for many, many Craftsman locks ,some of us just prefer the vintage key to match the vintage boxes. I participate in FB groups and buy/sell on FBM and sometimes I get lucky and find things. Mid -Jan happened to find the right keys at a fair price so I bought them, had them shipped here. Per the deal with the seller, he included his return address and I was instructed to send the payment via mail, if the keys were acceptable. So I sent the cash to the seller, sent the keys to the (unnamed) GJ'er. About 5 days later seller sends a message that payment received all good. I had taken a risk and packaged the keys flat ,taped in between posterboard, wrapped in a sheet of paper and in a regular envelope, which now costs 73 cents(arrgh). Keys never made it cross country. So a month after shipping I filed a lost/missing mail request with the USPS, this past weekend. I don't know if it lit a fire ,or merely a fluke but the keys were safely delivered yesterday.

Sometimes patience and a long drive is worth the quirky sellers.

And sometimes not like the time I drove 6+ hours roundtrip spending $70 in gas and oil (buddy's truck didn't even have oil on the dipstick and glad I checked first) to buy a 70's Craftsman Commercial series toolbox for $300 (top and bottom in beautiful condition) only to find out the seller sold it to someone local the very moment I arrived. In fact I arrived first but the other guy had messaged first but the seller thought the first guy was going to be a no show. The seller knew I was on my way as well and seemed to respond promptly. I guess my big takeaway here is to exchange phone numbers and explain that you are coming from a distance since some sellers do not think a message on Facebook or wherever is binding. In hindsight had I arrived an hour sooner I would have had that box but I don't know if I would have been able to actually load it myself due to the size and weight.

I feel your pain. Last fall I made arrangements, via FBM, to purchase a nice landscape trailer that was about 45 minutes away. We messaged back and forth and agreed to meet at 930am the following day. I messaged the seller when I was 15 minutes away only to have him say "hold off, someone else will he here shorty". Not wanting to get into a debate via text, I just continued to the location only to find the trailer being hooked up to the other guys truck. The seller claimed he got confused as to who he was texting with and had just made the deal 5 minutes before I arrived. I was less than pleased but had little recourse. I know FBM sales don't always go smoothly and sellers sometimes get overwhelmed with responses & 'no-shows', but this one stung a little since I missed out by literally 5 minutes. Turns out the buyer that beat me was a 'flipper' and relisted the trailer a week later for $750 more. It sat on Facebook marketplace through December and then disappeared, maybe it will reappear this spring. If it does, I will offer $100 less than what he bought it for. 🤪

I bought a small mill from a guy last year and while he held it for me at the price listed, he did tell me he had a lot of people responding to the ad and that I was lucky to have responded first while offering cash in hand.

I will never forget the time that happened to me. I got there just as the other guy was writing a $1500 check to pay for a ‘69 Mustang Mach 1 in decent looking and running condition.

Thursday opening of a sale, i was able to attend. I got there 45 minutes after it opened and headed to the garage. This particular company likes to generically post a price sheet wrenches are $3, sockets $1 ,etc unless marked. Somehow most times they add it all up is significantly less. I don't complain. I was surprised the swivel socket set was still there.

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you--but sometimes you just have to stand back and laugh in the bear's face.
Today's professional estate sale had these interesting tools displayed right next to the hawk-eyed cashier and closer to her than the pilferable jewelry.
While the individual prices are, to me, laughable in and of themselves, I point your attention to two in particular.
First, the OK Cutter handle. I found the separately priced cutters scattered among the other offerings and when I pointed out that they all went together and were individually useless, she said, "Oh. Okay. Well, I can just add them all together for you." Thanks. No.
The best, i.e., worst, one was the Klein cutters--with both cutters sheared off. Only $10!
Honorable mention goes to the vintage Miracle-Ear Audiotone Pro 2 hearing aids (not pictured)--$250--waxy patina--gratis.

I won't be going back for half-price day.

Estate sale ($50): 20 pc SK set; 12 pc. SK set; 1964 Craftsman 1/3hp block grinder (297.19580); Scrap copper.

Got skunked at my regular estate sale, but got in on the 1st round of the second. Picked up exactly what I scoped out earlier from the pics and found nothing else. Always nice to find block grinders w/ all the accessories. Saw a neat .22 lever action Marlin Golden Mountie, but they wanted $800 for it. Might go back and see if it's still there at 50% off.

Five will get you ten that most of them will be sold by half-price day.
No bet, Beemer.
"Hmm. Okay. Does that mean you'll subtract $8 off the price of the $16 pipe wrench that only has half its handle?" :)
"Are you nuts? It's an antique and perfectly usable (as a club) and that's what they go for on ebay!"

Nothing too exciting but I just picked up this homemade bench grinder stand for $20. I can't get over how perfectly this bench grinder sits on top like it was made for it. Just a tad taller than I would prefer but no big deal. I also would have went with thicker plate but this will work just fine.

Not even for the laugh?
Those are mostly 5x-10x prices to me. I’d expect to see them languishing year after year in the antiques stores around here. I do like the compound nippers, which look Utica, and which I don’t have in my collection. I can’t quite make out the price. If it’s $30 I’d be tempted at half-price.
Ah yes, the "look this up on Eprey BIN, and price accordingly" pricing method!
But think of the $hipping you $ave!
Five will get you ten that most of them will be sold by half-price day.
I guess it’s a regional thing. Scarcity.

Regional + supply and demand for sure. My philosophy is if you want eprey prices, sell on eprey, if you want to get it sold recognize the difference between buyers numbering in the hundred's vs. in the millions, and no regional issues... Finding that "one deep pocket buyer" is highly unlikely locally with walk through customers.

Most people going to estate sales are looking for bargains. I had ONE person at my mom's living estate sale do the "I'm here for this thing only, price no object" and he was sent by his wife, for a tall red vase with the instructions "don't come home without it". I could probably have gotten 2-3X the price from him. we were both happy and my mom was shocked I got as much as I did for that red vase. She had expected it to go to a thrift... What we had to sort of hide from her was that happened to the Norman Rockwell plate collection. different era and that generation is mostly gone.
