I am working on a reforestation project that I don't think I have ever mentioned on here. So my garage is partially a forestation and woods maintenance command center.

The house we are redoing is on 5 wooded acres and in March we were able to add a ten acre parcel to the property, it is essentially a crop producing farm field, one day I hope to start reforestation on a large scale on the property to include some forest and some native prairie areas. It is ambitious, but I really want to leave a mark on the earth to the best of my ability. When I cash in my last breath, I want our property to one day shine as an example of what an average couple with no formal forestry education is capable of doing.

I am working on my test plot areas with an aim toward biodiversity and recreation of a hardwood forest. So, my first area will be in a section of existing forest that has lost some trees over the years, we will see how things come along.

I will plant my first 8 sugar maples tomorrow. I have planted three oaks over the last two years. I am really excited to do this work, I won't go into the details, but this tree work is the first thing in my 50 something life that truly feels like "a calling." I will probably never be able to fully explain how that feels, because I have never been all that motivated to make this kind of difference.

If anyone is interested in understanding more about the project, send me a message.

I haven't had one of those in 30 years, maybe that would put some extra zip in my step!

Worked on my 12" Delta disc sander stand today, out in the garage...

I'll be needing it operational for when I cut all the trim miters for the garage door panels...

Used a piece of 1/4" thick A36 HR plate and drilled holes to mount casters and attach the legs...
I wanted to add weight low to the floor because the Delta Finishing sander casting and 820 motor are quite heavy....
At this point I need to remove some old paint and surface rust and get with the Rustoleum paint program...

Making progress...

Now just have to catch up on some yard work since we've been out of town all week.

And because the yard was bugging me too much, I said **** it let's get started.

Mind you, it was neglected for a week before that with the rain we had so weeds sprung up like crazy.

Got three coats of Krylon tractor paint on the mower deck.

IMG_6791.jpeg

Washed (bleach + TSP) and pressure washed the patio furniture. Following the stain directions for prep, now they need to get to under 18% moisture. Bought a moisture meter to check them.

IMG_6792.jpeg

Made V2 of my pressure washer pump cap. It’s smaller than V1.

Does that thing weigh just under 1 million pounds?
We moved it with a telescoping forklift! It sitting on my harbor freight wheel dollies and they are not happy. It was the table for a navy yard radial drill press in It's previous life. The top was machined on a planer but the previous owner let it get wet and pitted part of the surface. 😡

Nope - about 10 miles southeast of LA. Low to mid 60's but in the 40's overnight. Overcast and blah.

On the 10th, it was 80°. Today was 63°.

**** man, that's far from cold! :ROFLMAO:

It was 65 or so when we left.

We spent last weekend at my friend's house in Monrovia, then stayed in Carlsbad for Legoland for a few days all up until yesterday evening.

For a SoCal born & raised guy, it's cold enough. Got back from the gym this morning, had a wonderful lunch, and that was about it. I could have fired up the torpedo heater (flame breathing dragon) but just didn't.

Gotcha.

I lived out in San Clemente for 4+ years, Monterey for 11+ years, and now reside in the Central Valley.

I get hot at around 65 and up.

When it's over 75, it's a whole "**** that" and just running up the AC to the max anywhere I'm at.

It was warm out here which is why we headed down south since it was cooler out there than here.

Yeah, it can get nasty up there. My sister is in Modesto so I have some sense of what it's like.

Yep

Fluctuates a lot but you can definitely get used to it.

My wife is from the Central Valley so like you, she's used to warm weather. But it only took her staying a few weeks at my place in Monterey for her to love 30-50 degree weather.

When I rented out my house up there and bought one here, she was like "maybe we should've stayed up by the coast, I miss the weather" :ROFLMAO:

That was smart to rent it out. I used to live on Lighthouse down at the end in Pacific grove. I couldn't afford to buy a place at the time. I worked at MBA. I considered moving back after I retired but my life is here now.

Built a 4 compartment piñata for an upcoming birthday party for one of my training partners. Definitely went overboard and will probably need a wrecking ball to get into it. Still need to cut the fill holes and then turn it over to the GF to make it look pretty

the last picture is a cross between,

"Yep, now THIS is how a yard is supposed to look."

and

"I will kill that Smith kid if he doesn't stop riding his bike through my yard and he better stay the F away from my daughter!"

Yep, real expensive out there.

The rent I get from my property is more than our mortgage here on a 3-4 year old house!

It's part of the reason why I got to retire early at 36 years old.

I loved going to the MBA, but after one bad experience in trying to go, left a bad taste in my mouth and I swore off them ever since.
