Dayum Sterling, that is one huge building. That will be so nice when completed.
Mike, if I’m being honest I actually have woken up @ 3:00 in the morning with “What have I done?!” racing thru my thought! Just yesterday I was texting my wife about that, worried that I really stepped in it by going so big, and here was here response…F8CE7190-BA77-40A5-87D3-5C5BFAC1DA5B.jpeg

Ya, what a shame it would be if you had a little too much room in the shop.lol
/ me whispers in Roger’s ear… don’t say **** to sterling but… he thinks I’m loaning him my platform lift so he can hang all his misc ****. But I’m actually doing it so I don’t have to deal with storing it somewhere else. 🤫

I asked my neighbor if I could borrow a couple sections of his scaffolding since what I had in AZ was my Dad's and I gave it back when we left. He said sure and it's not needed so no rush. That was September lol. I think he's using me for free storage. Well I know he is because he said so. I asked him one day if he needed it back and he said no not at the moment and as long as you have it it's not in my way haha.

Yes Sterling, you very much are a lucky man. Having a supportive wife that is truly a partner in life is my greatest blessing, because that has made everything else possible. Without my wife I would be nothing.

I remember looking at all of the concrete after the shop was built wondering the same thing; what have I done? Now after nearly 8 years I can't even remember what that was all about because I love it so much, except when I have to clear the snow.

Building crew is up from Phoenix. When the white stuff started to fall I could hear them sniveling and shivering! Then when it got really going the insulation showed up and they had to unload and stack that.C882100F-DB63-4C8E-B356-C5B44C734AEC.jpeg
Final straw for them was when I pointed out that something wasn’t looking quite right….

They had installed the last two endwall verticals backwards and didn’t catch it before they got all the girts installed. So they tore it down and then headed back to the Valley of the Sun. Screw it, we’ll fix it Monday!!! So now we will wait till Monday after they are done before we wash the rest of the red iron! Happy Easter to all of you guys who are watching, hope you all have a great weekend!

It’s all good now. The “A” team is kicking ***! I’m a lot happier with how it’s going workmanship wise. This is an Engineered Building, here’s the Engineering paperwork, all 608 pages worth!56E1BD5D-0A80-4484-A057-0F6ABC00A8DA.jpeg

Picked up two of these from Tractor Supply a couple days ago.

Today the building crew got them installed up in the peak of the end walls. These should really help control summer temperatures and make the shop much more comfortable. As a bonus I could use them to clear out fumes from welding and painting!

Side walls may not get finished this week because some of the trim is damaged and or not the correct color and some of the siding sheets for above the one rollup door are too short! Hopefully they will still get it dried in by the end of next week as they were estimating.

Those are the girts. The girts are held with 1/2”x1-1/2” bolts with washers on both sides where there is an oval hole There is a piece of galvanized metal spanning the gap. It’s screwed and fastened in two planes, it’s all good!

I get Old Man POV, but that beam is just to hold the metal siding right? It's not load bearing? if it's not load bearing and just holds the metal siding then it looks good!

Metal building always has something like that where it would look wrong with a wood framed building.

Can you please let me know how that fan works / how effective you believe it to be once you get some use on it ! 🍻🍻
I’m hoping that the fans will help with summer temps. A buddy of mine has a shop as big as this one. He has a HVAC system that will bring the shop down to 75* even when it’s 105* at his place in Chino Valley. Only one small problem…. $700.00 APS Electric bill! We tried a couple large floor fans and a evaporative cooler when that sting hit hard, but you could feel the heat building over our heads. I shot the ceiling with my infrared temp gun and up there was over 90*! These fans can’t not help with that heat buildup. I’m excited to see how well they work and I’ll be sure to post the results here for all to see. Remember, without pictures, (or data), it didn’t happen!

Building crew got 95% of the wall sheets done. They need a couple replacement sheets that got cut wrong for over the 10’ high door and they’re waiting on more trim for the office window before they can hang the last sheets on the front wall.2ADEB4F3-C2F0-4275-8BBE-E8A3C32B9A04.jpeg
They got the south, west, and north walls done and installed 3 of the corner trim. The trim for the power gable vents should be here early next week too.

Really liking how the man doors turned out, I think I’ve walked in and out a dozen times with a stupid grin on my face!

This corner will get finished up after they get the rest of the wall sheets hung.

Went to the Prescott Home Show and got to check in with the garage door guy. He said my doors are going to ship May 7th and that he should have them installed hopefully within 2 weeks after he received them. That gives myself and my wife a couple weeks to paint the red iron garage door framing the same color as the trim. My general contractor recommended using a direct to metal paint from Sherwin-Williams…..2FA68A25-DB51-4168-9970-5C9A41852061.jpeg
Anybody here have experience painting red iron, any tips?

Cool shot of the shop inside view, the black plastic is covering the roof insulation and the extra insulation that I’m going to place behind the liner I’m planning on installing. I want to follow what @fnieto did in his shop and put 4x8 3/4” plywood up as a wall system. My wife and I will do the install while my contractor builds the main rooms and mezzanine in the north bay. You can also see the red iron framing for a 2x4 window on the west wall. I decided to install two windows in that wall for some cross flow ventilation, and am hoping that with the powered gable vents and windows I can keep this space comfortable.B3148855-DE91-4EB0-9E98-EA81D76B1E6F.jpeg
Final picture for now….76168564-E7E4-4E35-BF59-C38AC708CB9B.jpeg
The fridge in our camper has been not very dependable with keeping food cold, it would be working fine and then two hours later almost 50 degrees! Got so bad we’ve been using a cooler for food, couldn’t trust the fridge! So after watching many YouTube videos on these absorption fridges, how they work, and why they don’t, and how to fix them, I’m now a YouTube Certified RV fridge repair tech! Watched a video on how to take it all apart, clean the burner and igniter, reassemble it and then test it! But one thing that is critical for these fridges is that they’re level, and now I actually have a level spot on our property! Fridge works perfectly now, took it to Flagstaff and it never tripped and freezer stayed below zero and fridge didn’t get over 34 degrees! Really going to lower my wife’s stress on our camping trips!
Back to the shop, building crew hopes that they will be able to get the walls and roof complete by the end of next week, but that all depends on the weather as it’s forecast for higher winds everyday in the early afternoon. Thanks for following along.

Kickass sterling, it’s coming along nicely. I know you guys have better wind protection than I do. But it’s been blowing pretty decent here, has that been an issue?

Building crew hasn’t gotten blown out yet, but there always is next week. I’m not on the Christmas list with these guys cuz after they got most of the red iron done (without any washers) my general made them take all the bolts apart to add the washers. They added washers to all the bolts on the nut side. The next day my general went over the plans with the building contractor and pointed out that washers are required on both sides of the bolted joints. So these guys got to basically assemble my building 3 times.
Looks great now, I’ve got washers! Ya, I’m not their favorite. My general has been amazing, he explained to these guys that this isn’t some building they’re putting up in an industrial area for some commercial enterprise, this shop is my dream shop, I’ve been saving my nickels for this my whole life!
