Sometimes you just get lucky...found these at a yard sale the other day. All circle H.

DSC_0365.JPG

Half inch - 10 inch ratchet, speed handle, 14 3/4 inch breaker, 10 and 5 inch extensions, 8 1/2 inch tee, a wobble and 12 sockets

DSC_0368.JPG DSC_0370.JPGDSC_0367.JPG

3/8 inch - 6 1/2 inch ratchet, speed handle, 10 inch breaker, and 6 (in spite of what the first picture shows) sockets.

DSC_0371.JPG

1/4 inch - 5 inch ratchet, 5 1/2 breaker, 6 and 3 inch extensions, and a 4 1/2 inch tee. No sockets. All quarter inch stuff came in this neat little 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 SK box. Also this 4 inch amber and blue Long C screwdriver.

DSC_0372.JPG DSC_0378.JPG DSC_0379.JPG

All in all I paid less than a dollar a piece. Like I said, lucky!
I’m upset that I can’t find a yard sale like that

I thought the vanadium sets were the holy grail. I’m still torn between this box and my 1932 c-series box as my favorite.
I would say it depends on your perspective/ preferences. By sheet numbers known in the collecting community, I would say the vanadium sets are much more uncommon and therefore are more of a “unicorn “ to most collectors. Regardless they are both great sets
The amber grips are super rare, - came out just before the US came into WWII and production ended immediate for the war effort. It was never restarted.
The vanadium sets that are hinsdale made are much more uncommon than the amber handle sets. But I like em both and certainly wouldn’t turn either of them down if I found one in the wild at a good deal!

Smoke, I'm not sure you followed my drift - I was talking about the breaker, and some mfg's put a female opening in the grip end, so the breaker could be used as an extension.

They stopped doing that as people would stick an extension in there and use it as a cheater, and break the grip, then turn it in for the warranty...

The double end male extension Wolf mentioned was another thing entirely, for the older design ratchets that needed a driver to use (and reverse)
The 18” BE and Circle H breaker bars had female openings in the handle. I have both. This is the BE version with the 1/2” BT ratchet.

Here is a pretty rough Craftsman oak machinist chest made by Union. Ted's site shows it as a 43'-44' chest. I picked it up at a local swap meet this morning. I may have a drawer that will fit and a front cover but even if it's just a parts box it was worth a $5 bill. Ed.

Poor box.
It’s been really neglected over the years.

Yes that box took some neglect over the years and spent a good deal of time exposed to damp or outright wet conditions Smoke. Between the drawer handles, the leather handle, the hasps, and the badge there is quite a bit of salvage there though. Not sure if I'll fix it up yet or not. I also grabbed a 3/4" socket set this morning with quite a few circle k sockets but not a complete set. The other sockets and ratchet were mostly Plomb. Ed.

I saw the water damage! It's pretty rough. It may be savable or it may just be a parts box. Either way it's a good pickup. Parts boxes give up their parts so that other boxes may live. I would have paid $5 in a heartbeat for that.
Rest of pics with the correct 3/8” ratchet in the last pic.
Very nice set Jonah!

When I found this set, I thought surely there is a model number on the kit. So up and down the rabbit hole with no results. I had a Husky 3/8 drive and added it, but the rest came with it. There are mostly circle H but a few BEs if anyone is wanting to trade? And a handle repair.DSCF8700.JPG

Lots of  worthy posts on this page.

No “long C” on these but the correct era, 1930’s. Looking at AA, the extension would have Craftsman spelled out with a long C. Perhaps the t bar would too.

As you can see a couple of these are rusted. I may toss them in Evaporust when I get some set up again. I was hesitant to do much else due to unknown coating. Oddly, all look pretty usable, even the rusty ones.

I picked these one at time from a tray of sockets of different drive sizes at the flea market, initially throwing them to the side thinking typical small junk. Then I thought I saw Vanadium spelled out, so I stopped and took a closer look. Good grief! I never see these.

Initially I thought it was a set of 10, however one, while also 9/32 drive, turned out to be taller and 6pt with no visible markings.

I believe this is a complete set as it compares to C-series and Hinsdale sets of 9. That’s 7- 12 pointers and 2- 8 pointers.

To be honest, not sure if these have appeared on the site before or not. Couldn’t find any.

Here is a set of Craftsman Vanadium 9/32 drive.

Tool boxes on FB marketplace over in Renton for $5 each, ($15 for the big one). I'd gladly pay that for the blue one in back and the tray to go with it off to the side... if only it was on this side of Puget Sound.

I picked up the larger DBE at a local tool/garage sale last weekend. I really like the way they marked both sides on these wrenches.

I found another Long C soldering iron. It's a bit cRustier than the 150 watt one I shared here

and this nice 175 watt example Tim shared here

but it gots more watts, weighing in at 200.

IMG_6640.jpeg

It's a model No. 200, which makes sense.

IMG_6641.jpeg

The handle is in surprisingly good condition, compared to the steel parts. I'm guessing it was stored in a box with an open flux container.

^ Nice find. I won't try to talk you out of the 9/32"(15*) x 5/16(60*) wrench, which I need to replace the MERIT branded wrench in the mainly CRAFTSMAN set I cobbled together a few at a time and posted several years ago up thread, linked here. :)

The subject of the "N" codes hasn't come up in quite some time, but if memory serves, it was never resolved definitively. It's not an OEM code, though. The "CI" on your wrench is thought to be the OEM code, for Billings.
Glad I re-looked this post as I had overlooked the CI wrench, thanks again.
