I would join just because I feel get value from this site on a regular basis, discounts on tools would be gravy.

In addition to trying to set up Craftsman and similar mechanics tools discounts, what about some Bosch, Makita, etc. deals?

Why should I contribute to a site that just makes me spend money on tools??

j/k, a contribution to keep this place ad-free would be a great idea.

I just became an Alliance Member on the HAMB and just registered here after 'lurking' for a while. For what it's worth coming from a first-timer, I think the GJ Alliance is a great idea. Ryan has proven himself many times over so I know things will be done right. I'd support the GJ.

I'd rather see a magnetic tag as it's easier to move from box to box.

You can buy self adhesive magnetic material in various sizes & STRENGTHS at most any craft store. Personally, I'd rather have the choice of attaching with rivets or adding the magnetic backing. But that's just me.

And finally; I haven't been here long enough to know who the vendors are, BUT, ..... how many of you use Pit Pal products? I bet Jody would be interested in participating.

I would also be interested. Eventhough I do not post very often, I am on GJ almost every day. The discussions are very informative and entertaining. As stated in prior posts, the lack of annoying ads is great! GJ is a well run site and it sounds like this Alliance program will help it stay that way. Oh, and a big Race Deck discount will not hurt either.

Ryan, I love how "clean" looking you keep this site, I frequent many forums, and this is my favorite, also the lack of advertising within the forum is just the bomb, many thanks.

I too, would join the alliance, Id be happy to pay to keep the advertising out of the forum. Advertising is annoying as all hell, and I'm one of those that would just go away if it showed up, as I have from the other forums I used to hang out on, and now this is my "place" to visit.

Thanks, Bill

Yup count me in for the Alliance. Love this site and the content here. Happy to give up some cash to a site that I enjoy and find so helpful.

Not only does it look cleaner, the sites with all the banner ads sometimes take forever for the pages to load due to all the widgets, scripts and analytics that have to load.

After several years of CONTRIBUTING - I think you should pay ME!:bounce:

But since that aint likely to happen.....I'd gladly be a GJ Alliance Member. Also, just bought the t-shirt.

As far as functionalities, I'm one who never uses those things, don't care if PM's or searches are fast, slow or not there at all. I just enjoy the comraderie of guys into garages, learning, seeing and contributing.

I also agree with the $20 or $25 price tag - much easier to toss that around for most guys!

No, they will be posted... Those are the biggest selling points.

Not wanting to sound negative but $50-00 US would make it expensive for international members and then what would we get out of it ? :headscrat Any HAMB members outside of the US that can comment ?

If and when we do it, it will be $50 a year just as the HAMB Alliance is... It's proven to be the right price.

As for international users, we go after international vendors as well. We have a number of them already in the HAMB Alliance from Canada, Australia, Europe, etc...

The increased PM storage space would be very helpful for me. My box is always almost full, and when I organize a charityable event, it just gets ridiculous trying to find space for all the messages and keep track of my replies.

One of the other sites I regularly go to has a similar team-membership. One of the features is a "team-only" forum where the rules are a little more lax than on the rest of the site.

Things like our "pin-up" discussion are only allowed in the team forum, for instance...since the pics take up more space, more bandwidth and hence, cost a little more to host them :bounce:

Ya know one place that guys on here would love a discount to? Harry Epstein's.
+1

A metal tool box tag (similar size/style to the old Craftsman/S-K tool box tags) would be cool.

My initial thought was that $50 was way too much. I'm a paying subscriber to a few other sites and they are all in the $20 to $25 range. Then I took a look at the associated vendors on the HAMB... Wow! I'll have to go back to really look at who there I would use, but that is an impressive list. With the 5% to 15% discounts one could easily get much more than $50 worth out of the Alliance.

I do agree that a discount for multiple memberships is in order - particularly if there is a sizable overlap between the vendor lists. I also think that the idea of a "Alliance only" area on the forum would be a great perk.

The thing is, you woudnt need multiple memberships. If you join the alliance on the garage journal, you will have access to all of the discounts on the hamb alliance as well as the tgj discounts.

WOW. Now that is sounding like a great deal. We do not have to be on the HAMB to access. I have already read about T-Shirt buyers here getting the HAMB Alliance Discount so if GJ members can then acces the same with the HAMB alliance vendors etc. that is fantastic.

Have I read that correctly ? :headscrat really what I read is similar to what I posted earlier (Edited note: Post 39) and we get an ATOMIC access to all other forum deals but only having to belong to one forum in the ATOMIC group.

As a practicing capitalist, I would suggest that you offer the GJ alliance to current HAMB alliance members at a discount. Say $25. In as much as the Fordbarn has potential for an alliance membership, you could do a "buy two and get one free" deal or three memberships for a hundred bucks. There's no point in giving it away if people are willing to pay.

I was looking for what vendors and what type of discounts were at the HAMB alliance and couldn't find anything here, so off to google I went and found the actual HAMB vendor discount page.

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?page_id=176

Others might be interested to see what sort of offers vendors have.

For GarageJournal discounts I would like to see a couple of categories.

1. Tool vendors (sj discount tools, Harry Epstein, toptul, snap-on, etc)
2. Garage construction/finish vendors (racedeck, floor coatings, etc)
3. Garage furniture vendors (Lista, gladiator, etc)
4. Shop tool vendors (BendPak, Greg Smith, Mohawk, Ingersol Rand, etc)
5. Shop supplies vendors (McMaster Carr, MSC, Wurth, etc)
6. Automotive parts vendors (clairparts, parts.com, NAPA, etc)
7. Garage design companies (Ultimate Garage, etc)

Feel free to build on this list

From my earlier post I think Ryan has offered us access to all as the HAMBers are already getting discounts here so hopefully we will get discounts over there as well. Just waiting for Ryan to confirm.

Looks like the Alliance members will need something other than what is presently offered on the HAMB so it shows GJ / HAMB members or perhaps ATOMIC industry Alliance members given all the other forums Ryan runs under the ATOMIC industry banner.

The more I read the more I ask the more I like what is happening
I just hope I am reading it correctly.

This is exactly right... The only difference between a member with the HAMB Alliance and a member with the Garage Journal alliance would be what you get in the mail (timing tag vs. tool box tag). Both members would share the exact same discounts from the exact same vendors.

Essentially, by adding the Garage Journal we are simply creating a bigger power that will hopefully provide more exposure to our vendors and bigger discounts to our members.

I'm more of an idealist than a capitalist... Always have been.

I like the GarageJournal Alliance idea, I am a former (aka now a deadbeat) HAMB Alliance member. I would also like to see us implement the auction system like the HAMB has.

Thanks Ryan.

Ok, makes sense. I suppose you could charge a little extra if someone wanted both a tool box tag and a timing tag. The other thing would be if there was a "members only" section of the board and you wanted access to both the one here and the one on the HAMB.

Going to go peruse the vendors list on HAMB a bit more closely... BRB...

Count me in. I think it all sounds to good to be true.

I have been there and had a look but as I am not a member of the HAMB I can not access it all. If this works out will the membership need to be $50-00 ??? With the Alliance membership of just two forums things will double overnight. What is going to happen when you add all the others :shocking:

Ryan, I do believe you may have to change the Alliance name so it covers both forums.

The HAMB Alliance
+ Garage Journal Alliance
= Atomic Industry Alliance.
