The best deals at harborfreight right now are the impact sockets and the breaker bars.

Bought three breaker bars for under 15 bucks.

i went on xmas eve and bought a 25" 1/2 drive breaker bar for $6, the 18" 3/8 drive for $4, and the 1/2" torque wrench for $9.99

couldn't figure out anything to really use the 20% off on

I have that impact kit, the air gun has been great to me, its not crazy powerful but has been a great investment. The ratchet I don't use all that much and have never used another one to compare it to.

How about the IR 170G 3/8" air ratchet? is it a good tool?

Thanks

No experience with it, but all the IR stuff I've owned has been great with one exception. got an air hammer (117 IIRC) that came frozen up from the factory. I beat the thing up pretty bad trying to free it (impatience with new tool), but IR did not care. They sent a whole new hammer, no problems!

This kit is on clearance sale at Northern Tools for $149. What do you guys think. Are these good tools.

This one too. I have this set and these hold up well for medium duty use. $34

just because you listed them both together (ie, you probably know this already), but those allen/torx/etc shouldn't be used with an impact. dskatools has a nice sunex torx impact set (i just got it). i'm guessing are allen kits from sunex/genius/grey pneumatic.

the only 'problem' with the 231 impacts are how loud and heavy they are. for someone working in their garage, probably not a big issue. the big advantage (to me) of the IR2135/Nitrocats is A) QUIET - way quieter than the 231, and B) MUCH LIGHTER, way easier on the arm when working in awkward positions. i think those two are also significantly more powerful than the 231, but at least the IR2135 is probably 2x the price and the 231 is no weakling.

lots of folks have made a living swinging a 231 though - tough and reliable as hell. never used that ratchet, but its an IR air product; probably not bad :)

I was going to buy this IR2130 today when the Northern clearance email came in. Suddenly I was back in the drawing board. Thinking to skip the IR promo altogether and still go for this lighter gun.

Quoted for truth.

Nice write up. we've been using the 231 since it came out. The ones we have are US-made, and I don't know if that's the case anymore. You're right about it being heavy and loud. These things can be rebuilt countless times as well. Since they're shop tools, they have, as they get abused. But you can't beat this model if it gets dropped, kicked. driven over.

And it's relatively quick to repair seals.

We've got maybe 6 in rotation, though since, I've controlled the tools a bit, we haven't had one go in a few years.

I am intrigued by the lighter weight models. The 231 used to be an expensive gun about $350+ if I remember.

The 231 (I also have the 231c which afaik, is the same -- or at least I can't tell the difference) is definitely an industrial model. It's that tough. Provided lighter and quieter models are as tough, I could definitely see switching one or two out to see.

If you use this gun for 8 hours a day, weight makes a difference.

lots of folks have made a living swinging a 231 though - tough and reliable as hell.

Bought three breaker bars for under 15 bucks.

I've been known to buy stuff from Harbor Freight, but when I looked at these the other day all the heads were very loose. I tried over ten different breaker bars and they were all the same. Too bad, because I could really use a longer one.

This is one tool that I don't want to break, because if it does, I'm probably going to get hit in the chin, foot or crotch with the handle.

Does anyone have the code for the $50 bucks off that they sent when the promotion was over? I remember it was a simple code but it got deleted.

If your talking about Advanced Auto Parts. They email the code to your email account. You must be registered when you make the original $100 purchase. Ben

I was in Home Despot tonight and picked up a set of three Senco air nailers for $199 with a wheeled travel bag and some other goodies. Had a finish nailer, brad nailer and a stapler. The tool bin guy said it was a Christmas-only special and wouldn't be restocked. They also had 10-20% of their leftover Christmas-special Task-Force tools.

The email got deleted! I figure they probably used the same code for all since you had to be logged in from the original account that you made the purchase from the original promotion for the 50 bucks off a 100 buck order. It was a simple code with like 4 characters. Anyone got it?????

Re: Knipex @ Lowe's

Lucky you... the ones near me are still asking about $40 for that set.

EDIT: Nevermind, the website is now showing $29.... excellent... if using the $10 off $25 that means the set would be like $20... that is an unbeatable price. I'm buying a set...!

I just picked up 2 of these sets...one for me and one for my dad :)

Advance auto is closing out some of their gearwrench socket sets. 13 piece SAE and Metric sets are 22.94 + tax. The metric is part number 80558

Also showing $47 for me? LIES!

$22.95 for me. I would guess that not every store is closing them out, but this was a deal in an email Advance sent me. The website still shows the closeout price for me. 3 of my local stores are listed as having them in stock.

However, I am only allowed to buy online and pick them up. Perhaps the price you see is for shipping them to you.

In fact, I just went to the store and bought one.

WOW 9% sales tax I thought Wi was bad at 5.5%

Yes, I was surprised how high it was when I moved here. Last year the legislature passed a 1% sales tax increase to help the state get through a budget crunch. Topeka's sales tax was already high because of local taxes, but the 1% pushed it up to 9%.

Using the LC123 code for Advance I added the 3/8 gearwrench metric and SAE kits and the 1/4 metric and SAE kit that is also on sale to my cart for a grand total of $49.76. It knocked down the sets to $13.96 and $10.92 each. All of the items were pick-up only but in stock at all the stores near by. Not too shabby.
