Had a chance to use that Wera bit ratchet yet? Just curious to hear your thoughts on it since the straight version is on my short list...

I had the straight version for a little while, it was very nice and smooth. The Rapidapter(spelling?) was very cool and worked well. The only downside was the handle was too small in diameter for me to apply any kind of torque. I bought it to drive 1/4" sockets which was not very successful. It lives on now in Canukian's collection

Just received my Wiha order and I can honestly say I've never held a better screwdriver, these are AMAZING!

Thanks to the OP for the heads up, I love them!

I got mine the other day, and though I thought I'd never buy another screwdriver that wasnt Wera, I am sure glad I did. These are SOOO much nicer feeling. I love the laser tip of a wera, but these things are exponentialy more pleasurable to hold... They feel like a working man's screwdriver... like a tough sum'*****.

Also I may have found a decent deal on a Wiha torx set...

That bent handled WERA is not a ratchet driver, it's a 25-50in/lb torque wrench. It can be set for any value in that range but must be checked against a verified calibrated wrench.

Impulse buy yesterday at Costco, can always use another set. $9.99, here it is at Amazon for $19.99. Some Torx bits and square drives.

Best screwdrivers I own. Purchased the heavy duty black microfinish screwdrivers on closeout and received the new Ex heavy duty red/black microfinish version instead. Look the same to me minus the color added....

I picked up a set of Wera Lasertips a few months ago and was very impressed with them. Guess I'm going to have to pick up some Wihas now as well. This forum is going to be bad for my bank account :shocking:

Cool thanks for the heads-up. Does it ratchet as well, or just click at the specified torque?

I kept resisting the Wiha screwdrivers too, but I finally caved in and ordered. Thanks to everyone who posted on this.

Wow. I just went and bought $60 worth of screwdrivers that I don't need because a bunch of guys that I don't know were raving about them on an internet forum.

What are the odds that I'm not gonna end up feeling stupid? :wtf:

I guess I'm another sucker for the latest Wiha craze. Just to confirm, everyone purchasing the "Heavy Duty Black Series MicroFinish"? 50% off sounds pretty good to me.

spend around $70 to buy 8 screwdrivers?
why not invest the money to other tools?

Wiha heavy duty is a very nice screwdriver, and a full set is what same price as two off the truck?

How does this Wera screwdriver compare with the hot Wiha screwdrivers?

I noticed the Wera's and Wiha's on Amazon. I bought some Wiha soft grip insulated drivers and they are very nice, but I did notice that although both companies are German, the Wiha's appear to be mostly all made in Germany and some pliers are even made in Switzerland. Much of the Wera drivers, however, appear to be made in some other eastern block country (like Poland or Czechoslavakia). Notice that many of the Wera's don't state "Made in Germany," and state something like "German Engineered."

As an FYI, I bought PB Swiss Swiss Grips for around same price (about $8 a piece) and love them.

Current Lowes tool deals & special buys via TG

Someone at Lowes dropped me a note about their current tool deals. Some are really hot (Dewalt bit kits, $50 non-crippled Shop Vac, 20pc socket set for $10, etc). Others are kind of ho-hum like the dirt-cheap garbage knife set for $25. Still, I mixed the good and bad for anyone interested.

There are a couple of other "deals", with just about average street pricing that I didn't feel like posting. And a $20 Task Force angle grinder.

What do you mean by "non-crippled shop vac"? Is the BF deal one inferior in some way?

BF special is $29 but with 14-gallon tank, 4.5HP motor, 6' 1-1/4" hose, 6' power cord.

This special is $49, with 16-gallon tank, 5.75HP motor, 6' 2.5" hose, 12' power cord.

I am usually leery about Black Friday shop vacuum specials. They usually seem to be built to meet a certain price point.

Not that this special is stupendous as it comes with the bare minimum of accessories and a somewhat short cord. Still, you can upgrade the hose and accessories, but you can't usually upgrade the power cord or motor. My small shop vac has a 6-foot power cord and I hate it. Extensions are usually too long and get in the way.

I placed my order before i saw your post. Did they call and ask if you would like the red ones or did they just send you them by mistake. The reason I ask is I only wanted the solid black ones.
