I think a light duty is useful to have, but I think more versatility might be had if you started at 18v and at least 3/8" square drive. I've been looking at either the C3 1/2" sq drive impact or the M18 Milwaukee same.
I need to use my PS40 Impactor some more. When I first got it I used it for a couple small projects, and I happened to be doing a tear down on a long block, lots of fasteners of all sizes, and it wouldn't break loose jack. Bolts with a 5mm or 6mm hex bit and it would just rattle, vs my tiny 5" 1/4 drive microdrive ratchet took them right off. Maybe it was something adapter related, but checking into it further is on my list of things to do.

I was losing hope on the SK Ratchet Grainger deal. They called me once I placed the order last Friday and said it would be the 9th of December before they would come in. When I checked online, the order disappeared from my account. That with the reports of order cancellations I was giving up hope.
Got a call today from Grainger and they were at the store, awaiting pick up. Picked them up at lunch.

if anyone recalls my earlier post I didnt hear from grainger about the S K wrachets at all so I emailed them. Their reply was "sorry but they were discontinued by the manufactuer". They didnt outright state my order was canceled or they were or backordered, or they were out of stock, only that they were discontinued by the manufacturer.
I just received this email from them a few minutes ago;

And the beat goes on. I got the same email, with a ship date of 12/2. This, after receiving the voicemail a few days ago stating they were discontinued.
I wonder if somebody at Grainger is having a little holiday fun, delivering ratchets to some, making others' orders disappear then reappear on a whim? Is there a Mr. Burns running the company in a dark tower someplace, pressing a big red Cancel/Uncancel button while rubbing his hands together and saying "ehhhxcellent"?

Grainger tried selling me the "upgraded" 83 dollar ratchet!!!! I saw the charge pending on my credit card and I just called and cancelled that. Definitely check what card you used to purchase it and buyer beware!!!!

You didn't by chance order four of the SK ratchets? 4 x 16.69 + tax and shipping ~ $83. You'd know better than anyone else but with all the back and forth on orders being canceled, reinstated, and credit cards being charged a week later it's easy to lose track of what we first ordered...
I just called Grainger, and they said they still have 7 (well now 5) of the ratchets (non indexing head) in Chicago. We'll see if I get them.

Uhm, I own a Snap on lithium ion 1/2", a craftsman C3 1/2" drive, a craftsman C3 1/4" impact driver, as well as all my air tools. The light duty small impact is much easier to fit in under dash's and for doing interior work. I'd never expect it to break much loose under the hood, although some light duty stuff light hose clamps, and other simple tasks are no problem.
Everyone that does anything interior wise needs one of the light 1/4 drive impacts IMO, and craftsmans is one of the better "bang for the buck" units.

thats dirt cheap. i paid full pop for mine off the tool truck and worth every penny. My streamlight stingers sit idle as i use this all day long. Have yet to have it go dead in a day of work where i would generally use 2 stingers.
im scooping up two more for this price. one for home other for spare.
I found myself needing a flashlight for some work tonight and wasn't close to home, so I thought I would stop by Home Depot and pick up a new Maglite. I was pleasantly surprised to see the two D battery version in the holiday display aisle at $15.88.
I then wandered over to the tool section, was admiring some hammers, and looked down to see a couple of yellow clearance tags on some American made Vaughan items. Sweet.
16 oz ballpein hammer: $3.23
hammer / hatchet: $5.73
Maglite: 15.88 (best flashlight I have ever used).
I have absolutely no need for the hammer and hatchet, but for the price of a six pack of beer for some USA made tools, I had to take them home. They looked to be about 75% off. They had a larger ballpein hammer on clearance as well at around $11.00 (24oz ?) but it looked like the normal price was about $15.00 so I passed.
Here's a few pictures including some sku numbers.

Yeah, I remember that clearance thread, and it seemed like a long long time ago. I thought this must be something new since this Scottsdale location is very busy.

last friday, made a few rounds to home depot looking for the rigid drill press deal and got the run around from a few different stores, decided to call a store about 20 mins from my house and got a really helpful lady that spent about 10 mins on the phone with me looking, she couldnt find it but took down my name and number incase she did. I had totally forgotten about it until today she called and said she found it and asked if I still wanted it, payed for it over the phone and went and picked it up tonight. Gonna call or email the store manager tomorrow to give her a great review!

I just ordered some of these Wiha pivot drivers myself yesterday, and thought it was a pretty good deal since you actually get 2 sets for $20 shipped (BIN auction on Ebay). I paid $18 yesterday though, so they may go on sale again.
I can't justify buying more "regular" screwdrivers, but these look like they might come in handy once in a while. BTW, this is not my auction.

just got my Lindstrom RX8150 cutters that were posted a few days ago from ebay, they look brand new
Seller still has more and a few others similiar to it
I just got my set and they look brand new. This is a great deal and I'm going to get a couple more. The street price on these things is around $60+.

Cutting spring steel on precision electrical cutters is a great way to put a big nick in the blades... they are typically not hardened for steel, they're made to cut copper and plastic.
I have to be careful with my Knipex's that I never cut RG-6... coax RG-6 uses a copper-plated steel center conductor.

So, I will never order from Grainger again. I ordered the 12D277 flex head ratchet back on Friday Nov. 25th for will call pickup. At that time I was given an order number. I called on Tuesday to check the status and see if they knew when I would be able to pick it up. The rep told me on the phone that it would be available on Thursday the 1st and that I would receive a call from the store to pick it up. Thursday came and when I had not received a call by 4pm I decided to call again to check on the order. The rep then told me that the ratchet would be ready the next day (Friday) and that I could call in the morning to verify. Here it is 10am and I called again to see if it was ready. I was told that the item was on vendor back order and that I would NOT be getting that item. The rep then told me that they have a substitute ratchet at the store ready for immediate pickup and then told me the item number which came back as the proto ratchet for $80.
I asked if it was going to be sold to me for the same price as the one I ordered? He told me no, it would be $80. I told him I wasn’t going to pay 5 times more money for a “substitute” ratchet. I asked him why was I able to order a product, call two times and be given a pickup date both times and then finally be told that I would not be able to get the item. Not at any time did Grainger notify me of the status on there own. Why didn’t someone notify me that the item was no longer available?
He told me that the order department should of notified me and both people I talked to (Tuesday and Thursday) should of told me.
Now don’t take this as a rant that I’m whining because I didn’t get a deal on a ratchet. Yes I’m disappointed that I didn’t get the deal on the ratchet BUT I’m mad and venting because a company as large as Grainger doesn’t care to keep their online products availability updated, they don’t care to let the purchaser know that the item is not available even after they order it, they give me 2 different dates that the item will be available and then tell me it’s not available BUT there is a substitute ready for pick up at 5 times the cost of the item I ordered.
That is very poor customer service. In today’s electronic age it is very easy for stock on hand to be integrated into the online ordering system and also the system can flag orders that can’t be filled.
Arghh… oh well at least I feel better venting about it.

Grainger SK order came in this morning. I ordered these on Monday thinking it was a long shot, especially after reading all of the posts here. I did check my order history on Wednesday to see if it was there and when it wasn't I was sure my order had been canceled without notification. Guess not!
for 60 bucks they better be hardened enough to cut through superman. Also the spring in a ratchet is tiny.
Grainger is just set up for businesses. I don't even think they knowingly sell to individuals. Not a great excuse I guess, but we should all take away a lesson that if you're an individual, the Grainger deals that pop up from time to time are quite the long shot.
Their business model seems to be more for businesses getting the tools they *need* to get the job done, and having that tool (or a similar one) ready and available so that the business can get that job done ASAP, even if it costs a bit more for a replacement, it's availble *now*. They don't appear to cater to individuals who just want a very specific tool/item at the exact advertised price and not a penny more.
