I received my WIHA order today and I have to say that everything looks pretty good... except for the high leverage cutters and the push button plumber's pliers.

The high leverage cutters that were part of the Monday sale are tight and will work very well, but the chroming was poorly done. When the jaws are opened, they expose large areas that look like they either weren't chromed or at a minimum cleaned up. They're large black areas that look almost burnt.

The push button pliers are supposed to be the pro-line, but they're really loose and it looks like one of the soft grip handles wasn't installed all the way.

Wiha's old professional line (329xx series) is definitely nicer than the new stuff that they have. They're chromed, polished and very tight, and they happen to be the ones that aren't made in Vietnam.

Would I buy them again... probably not most of them, especially not directly from Wiha. Some research now that I've received them has shown that even the sale prices are higher than a few places online (carbideprocessors.com as an example). And other online sites have a satisfaction guarantee. Wiha states no returns on any sale items. I don't think Wiha has the same standards that they used to now that they're having everything made in SROV.

I picked up a pair of crossforms, the multi fits are too gimmicky.

But already playing with the cross forms I'm very skeptical of the quality versus the x beams I tried an hour later.

But for less than $1.80 a wrench you just can't complain. The same with the 14 pc plier set for $9.00 with tax.

Stanley 16' Tape Measure (FatMax/BladeArmor)

$4.98 until 12/31/2011 at Lowes. $17.90 on Amazon right now.

I do not believe it comes with the knife as pictured... but it may as there's another identical tape measure without the knife pictured?

My local loews was a no go.

I've tried the Wiha germany pliers as well as the Vietnam pliers, IMO the Vietnam pliers belong next to the Kobalt and Husky Chinese stuff at the big box stores.

I didn't see that Fatmax on sale in my local store either. I think they had that one but it was labelled full price (not sure what it would have actually rang up at). They did have a Lufkin tape on sale for a couple $ off.

If you buy at the store its 19.98, if you buy online its $4.98.

Ordered two online from my local Lowes. So when I went to get them, I looked thru the tool isle first to see if I could find any and I could not, went to the cust serv area to pick up my order and after 10 mins fooling with inept employees someone found my order. :eyecrazy: An ok deal but really who uses a 16ft tape, its either too long or too short? IMHO. Looked at that cross form wrench deal too and while the chrome plating was nice, they didn't find their way into my cart and they had a ton of them too.

I bought online and at the store, they were both $4.98 and they were locally in those promotional bins in the middle of the aisle.

Same here. It is NOT the regular 16' fatmax you find in the tool aisle. It is in a blister pack with a Fatmax utility knife in the 'holiday specials' area that they have going on now (all the $10, $20, etc signs).

However, the sign on the crate will say $15, but will ring up $5.

Picked up a 14 pc. Mini Plier set at Lowes today for $9.95... marked down from $39.95. Nothing high end, but certainly acceptable at less than $1 per plier.

The tape is not with the other tapes in the tool section.
It is right at the front door with all of the Christmas promo **** in the cardboard displays. It is packaged with the knife in about a 12x10 plastic package

The knife *****... don't feel bad.

LMAO - so you've attempted to put a blade in. The process is laugh-out-loud crazy. Grab the blade and push it in to the front of the knife until it locks. Or until it gashes your hand/fingers. Unbelievably poor design.

The sad thing is, once you get a blade in there it is a nice utility knife - but my God, what a fatal flaw.

I actually like the knife. I bought one this spring and have been using it at work since then. I liked it enough I bought more of these deals with the tape measures. I have a Husky branded knife at home that is nearly the same and like that too.

You are pushing the black blade release button opposite the "lock", right?

Same way the double blade Bostich one works. I hated it at first, and once I learned how to replace the blade, it works just fine.

And yes, you can easily cut yourself, which is why you have to pay attention and grab it the blade from the spine.

Honestly the blade install process didn't impress me, but I have the Bostich 2-blade and it wasn't much different... both get bad reviews for that but I don't find its that bad.

No, I bought two and have only actually used one (cutting drywall when one of my contractors fell through my laundry room ceiling), but the knife immediately got stuck open and won't retract by hand. I can use a pliers to push and get it moved back. It seems light-duty and cheaply made so I figured the other one would be similar based on the awful reviews. The "lock" feature also seems to fall out of unlocked, so while trying to move it I have to hold it all the way forward.

I'm not that impressed with the tape, either. It's okay but it feels cheap and was probably 5x overpriced. I think $5 is the perfect price for this set. I really like the Komelon self-locks, too bad they don't have this sale again:

I don't think HOLIDAYJOY will give $15 off $100 for tools, just free shipping. At least I couldn't get it to give me any dollars off on the tools in my cart.

I love those Komelon tapes. My lowes didn't have any Stanley blisters with tapes and knives or tapes and levels. Checked everywhere. A lot of "task force" stuff.

ive used my komelon tape for the last year and it is starting to not lock up anymore.

Komelon's warranty is for the "useful life of the tape", sounds like that would definitely qualify. You do need your original receipt, it may be easier to take it back to Lowes or wherever you purchased it, to see if they'd swap it out for you.

and pretty sure that it actually says $15 off $100 OR free shipping

I've been trying to get it (or any of the other discount ones) to work on the 255 piece tool set with no luck. It just changes the extra $30 off to some other number and then applies the coupon dollar amount off, so the net price ends up the same. I guess I might just have to settle for the Discover 15% off.
