Yep!

In the short term it was the best option.

The compressor is turned off when the garage is unattended as I have had lines blow on compressors in the past.

I picked up some second hand racking for a $300. It would have cost me heaps more in trying to knock some up as good as these. The workbench is the same system but 900mm deep

Yep!

Not to get into a huge debate about the dangers of PVC and compressed air, but I wouldn't want to be sitting right beside it if it decides to let loose and explode. The welding helmet may protect your eyes, but not your neck.

Andrew, there is no world where PVC is the best solution for holding compressed air -- especially when someone is in the shop with it. Both OSHA (here in the States) and the PVC manufacturer's association both explicitly warn against using it with compressed gasses.

Other than that, it's a great looking shop.

I agree..... that pvc should NOT BE USED....how much are your eyes or your wifes eyes worth? Even near the roll up at the bend pak... it can explode without notice. I just want you to be safe.. you have an awesome set up...but it's not worth it if you are badly injured (and that's not to say a friend could be over when it happens....lawsuit)

Not the best pic, but here's my storage. My brother in law flips houses and loads me up with cabinets from houses he does. On the opposite way I have old pallet racking we were tossing out at work. At the front of the garage you can see my bolt bin and drawers I also got from work

All but the Craftsman were saved from going to the scrap hopper.

Old Lyon cabinet. Originally avacado green but has been painted over twice. Now it's a gunmetal gray. It's around 7' tall and weighs a ton (or so it seemed when I unloaded it lol)

Here's a Durham parts cabinet and a couple of office file cabinets. The files have roller bearings and the gray one on top has a lock that only allows one drawer to be open at a time. The bottom cabinet is one piece with drawers and doors.

And the Craftsman. Dad left it with me when the folks moved. Removed the old particle board top and shoved it under the work bench.

I prefer the Craftsman tool boxes and organization boxes. I have been using those forever and I still to this day can't help but buy a new one every now and then. Some say I have a collection of them. They are top quality and will last forever. My son races, so I hope years from now when dad is gone, he will be able to use them too.

You do see PVC I know it is not ideal and I am looking at different systems to replace it. I hooked it up to get it in and get working. I had a copper system but when I expanded it I took the easy way out. After reading others comments I guess I better change it sooner than latter

Two and a half walls in the garage are covered with cabinets. The back wall of the garage is covered with very boring and very cheap Mill's Pride kitchen cabinets and post-formed laminate counter tops from HD back in the mid-90s.

The 15"x30" door packs for those cabinets were $6 a pair so I bought some extras and built simple 1"x8" 30" square boxes. They are deep enough for gallon cans, oil bottles and plastic shoe boxes.

I planned to upgrade my compressor so I made two 1"x10" 42"x30" cabinets with the top aligned with the other cabinets. The extra depth is perfect for storing catalogs and magazines. The space below these two cabinets is 42.75"Hx60"W, which is just enough for a 5hp Eaton horizontal compressor (40"Hx54”Wx22"D).

I like having the doors because they hide the mess. We live on a busy street so it is a little bit of security to have the cabinet contents out of sight. The difference between the open and closed cabinets is easy to see.

In the corner of the garage closest to the kitchen door, the extra tall and deep base cabinet came with the house and it held a home-made dog washing sink (two plastic laundry tubs fiberglassed together). The sink leaked within a month of moving in so I patched together a 46.5"x30" butcher block counter and drop-in plastic laundry sink. The rest of the corner is filled with a freezer, water heater, icemaker, TV and sound system (in the corner cabinet above the water heater.

I thought I was done with the cabinets but last December I decided to take advantage of the energy rebate on hybrid water heaters. The new water heater has a heat pump mounted on top and needs an additional 14” of clearance so the filter can be removed and cleaned. This meant my sound system had to be relocated. It was neatly hidden in the corner cabinet over the water heater and even had a muffin fan to cool the electronics built into the cabinet.

The water heater install was going to be $300 so I decided to install it myself and use the $300 for a flat screen mounted in place of the corner cabinet. The screen can be moved out of the way so the filter on the water heater's compressor can be removed and cleaned. Of course I now need to build a new cabinet to house the electronics (the stack on top of the ice maker is just not right).

This summer my "5-horsepower" 115v oil-less compressor died unexpectedly. The Eaton I wanted wasn't on sale and I couldn't bring myself to spend $1,600 (money was already spent on parts for the Corvette project). Therefore, I settled for a $400 US General 3.5 horsepower 220v upright 60-gallon tank model. Luckily the space I had set aside for the horizontal tank could be easily re-arranged to accommodate a vertical tank. I just took down the left 42" cabinet and mounted it below the right cabinet. Some plumbing and electrical work and it fits OK. Wiring a 220v outlet was fairly simple but running the wires in the attic in the middle of the summer in Florida was less than fun.

Just when I thought it was car-project time, my wife mentioned how shabby the garage sink was looking. She reminded me that she sometimes needed to soak/dye clothes and the front-load washer I foisted on her didn’t really allow soaking. My nasty plastic garage sink had to be replaced (after only 15 years). I agreed to replace the sink but when I gave it a test-fit, the counter really looked bad next to the new sink. The half-hour sink replacement morphed into a 3-day two-part polyurethane clear-coat project.

Since no good deed goes unpunished, after some complimentary remarks about the counter-top, my wife mentioned how shabby the kitchen workbench top was looking. Yes, my garage looks like a kitchen but my kitchen has a workbench (without woodworking vise).

I haven't made much progress in my garage, but I scored these 2 office cubicle horizontal cabinets in the local classifieds for $35. I wanted something for this odd catchall corner of my garage to keep **** off the floor and still have room for my snow blower or lawn mower. They fit perfect and are super heavy duty, I just need to replace the locks with a knob so they are easier to open. Along with some Gladiator hooks, this corner is now 100% more organized than it was before.

Thanks to garage journal, I mounted them with a french cleat, which I hadn't heard of before. The cabinets had a perfect 1" recess in the back, so I ripped a 2x4 to 1" and 45ed it, lagged half the cleat into 3 studs, and drilled 5 holes in each cabinet to mount the other half of the cleat with wood screws. Installation was a breeze and they aren't going anywhere. The best part is, if I ever get to removing the wall next to them (more garage on the other side), they will be easy to move.

I have been hunting for some cabinets for awhile now with no avail. My local Lowe's has quite a few cheaper kitchen cabinets on markdown I'm thinking about if I can talk the manager down. I really like the Gladiator stuff but I'm sad to see it's made in China and the prices aren't cheap!

But I am enjoying all of the ideas in this thread and it keeps me hopeful that I will find a good deal!

So far it has held up very well. I have no burn marks or melting of any sort. I have been making a driving simulator seat set up and most of it has been done directly on the floor. Time will tell but there is a 10 year warranty on the floor. The premier garage rep said if it was damaged it would be covered. I hope I don't have to see if they will or not

Heres my assorment of drawer cabinets. Some Lista, Vidmar, old card catalouge file cabinets and Kennedy boxes. I got rid of the shelves and am slowely putting everything in the drawers. I'm in the process of another purge, as you can see there is a lot of loose items.

Its a mismash of drawers, but it works.

All the cabinets are or will be on casters. Can't beat it when you go to do a layout change.

Bought the first lista over 20 yers ago at a air force auction for $ 20.00. Wish I had the sense to buy more.

Anyway, my little of the shop world.

My shop hasnt been this clean since the day I finished building it, but anyways it looked great for a day. These are just some basic handmedown cabinets I painted with black oil pant and Rustoleum Hammered Metal Silver. Filing cabinet works great for storing tape, rags, and tools in blow mold plastic cases. Bottom drawer holds random pieces of steel for random fabrication projects. Tools I don't use very often get hung on the board, everything else goes in my Roller tool box.

As part of my whole garage remodel i am taking my existing 16' workbench and redoing it. I got it out of a old Mobil station years ago, it is an old modular system. There are four 4' sections, 3 with sliding doors and shelves and one drawer unit.

when i had it set up as one long bench, half of it just collected ****, so i took 2 sections off and used them as upper wall cabinets. after i finish the wall patches were i added some outlets, i will sand them down and repaint them. Also instead of the using the sliding doors above, i think I'll make some doors for them.
