Thoughts on the carts from HD? Considering driving to another local one tomorrow in hopes of finding two. Building workbench in which these would slide under for storage, then working on something they could be rolled out to double the table top space.
Are they worth my trouble, time and money?

BUCKNERBUCK, I started a new thread for these Whalen carts, look for it and post all you know about and how it's loaded and what your doing with it. Any ideas as to the open areas and also the section of steel pegboard on both sides.

Thanks, JASTECH & Son

You tell me, I drove 35 miles and bought the last two they had boxed up. If they would have had more I likely would have bought another. Just for the heck of it I went to two other HDs that same day too to no avail @ another 40 miles apart :wtf: The wheels and casters alone on these carts is worth $99 for 4, IMHO.

I just took the two I bought out of my truck and moved them into my garage. I have so much **** in it I can barely walk but I flipped one up side down and put that box on top of the second which is kind what the instructions say to do to assemble, only tricky part is getting the two boxes of parts out of the drawers which are nicely locked BTW. Just cut the box apart so you can assembly up side down then flip over when done. Word to the wise, get a helper for lifting and flipping, these weight about 100 lbs and I imagine a good 10 lbs is packing stuff, Great deal IMHO for $99 :beer::thumbup:

Have not seen this item on here and since I just bought one I share the wealth:

Craftsman Professional Chinese Knock off Wilton Vise, $119 or less, see this link
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-professional-4-1-2-in-bench-vise/p-00951888000P
Gets great reviews here and is supposed to be an almost exact copy of the Wilton 1745. YMMV Picking up mine tomorrow after work.

I love mine, but the original paint was horrendous - I think mine was more a fluke, though.

These tend to go on sale for sub-$100 pricing a couple times a year.

Those are the Chinese ones with the double O rings-- part no's 33442 (I saw these a few weeks back showing up on clearance line)
The USA ones are part no 44992

Well that's a disappointment. I just got the shipping email and it looks like they are the Chinese ones. Oh well, if that's the case, they will be going back.

The model number doesn't mean they're made in China. Model 33442 and 44992 are the same sets. I'm not sure if the model numbers are the same as they were, but one set was always only in stock in-store, and another set was always only in stock online. The online-only had an $80 list, the in-store only had a $100 list.

They very might well still be made in China. A couple of GJers spotted the new batch of ratchets. There's no telling who's getting new stock and who's getting USA-made stock.

My guess is that Sears is seeking to eliminate one of the SKUs in favor of a single in-store and online package. Or maybe they're just trying to boost sales whichever way they can. Who knows.

A couple of years ago they clearanced the same ratchets but with 80th anniversary markings.

My guess is the different SKUs between in-store and online are to avoid having to price match the online price... *******!

The crimpering tool is $10 in local store.
The fencing tools is $13. I bought one and it rocks.

Rumor on another post was that HD had channellock crimpers for $9. I didn't see that as it was at the regular $19+ price.

However, the fencing pliers were $13. I think they're regularly close to $30,

The Channellock crimpers and the 7 3/4 diagonal pliers were both marked down to $10 at my HD. I went back to get the cutters and they were gone. the crimpers were still there, but I dont need another pair.

I am one of them, at one of my 3 local Sears, actually one of the ones that is closing, the thin profile ratchets have all gone to China and a few of the raised panel ones as well. I have been looking to upgrade a few of my ratchets, thinking about Armstrong MAXX, but I'll probably hang on to my Craftsmans for my son someday, he's only 5 months, but I plan on teaching him the value of Made in USA.

Apparently. I couldn't get the kid to match the ones in store to the online sale ones due to different item numbers.

And the ones in store were USA made! :soapbox:

Stuey is correct I bought the 33442 (online only) listed @ $79.99 back about 6 months ago which were US made. I paid $53.11 after coupons/discounts so $45 is an incredible deal if they turn out to be US made. Even if not US made that is actually a great price on some great ratchets. I wouldn't keep them, I would buy the set in my local store for $100 and return the Chinese ones. Haha.

The thin profile ratchets and all the other fully polished ratchets are made in Taiwan, not China. I'm not counting the premium 84 tooth ratchets. I think they're still USA made.

The raised panel ratchets are made in China.

the most interesting thing about the 3pc cman set your all talking about is i was looking at them in store one day... ya $99 is a hell of a deal when above them buying the 3 ratchets separately is 2-3 dollars cheaper...is it me or is that usually the other way around when buying 'sets' vs individuals?....wtf are the thinking over there in the sears marketing dept... must share office space with the website programmers

Oh, man, you're evil

Currently on their website you can buy the 3-pc set on sale for 89.99, or you can get the 3-pc set, personalized, on sale for .. 89.99. Both $10 off. ??

So the theories are China, USA or Taiwan?

Maybe we'll get one from each country.

Interesting. I wonder if the personalized ones from China come inscribed with Chinese letters or English? ;)

YMMV on this, but my local sears (Citadel Mall, Charleston, SC) has the 260pc Mechanics tool sets on clearance for $105.97, which is an amazing price to me. These are the ones that come in the black plastic 3 drawer chest. There were 8 or so there. I had to pass, I'm up to my ears in sockets and stuff because of this site...COO on these is unknown, forgot to check :twak:

Picked up my NS67 today. I almost passed on this but am glad I didn't. This is a nice domestic ratchet for $36.99.
