It would be great if you can also find the conical piece that would have been attached to the base of the beacon and the roof mount."[/I]

Since I'm just now getting to the area the where the Beacon Ray was found I'll need to be watchful for that conical attachment piece. Wish me luck on that one! :D)

Thomas

I will wish you luck finding that part, and I hope it's in a safe place right next to the nose cover for the Walker jack!

While all the other kids are hunting for eggs this Sunday, we all know what Thomas will be diligently searching for.

Everyone sing along now ---

'A tisket, a tasket,
a green and yellow basket.

Searching here, searching there,
he's searching nearly everywhere.

Finding naught 'neath his bed,
nor a thing above his head.

He seeks it high, he seeks it low,
he loudly shrieks, "Where did it go?"

From hopeful dawn,
to dismal dusk,

he gives his best;
THIS IS NO JEST!

As Day is done,
Cruel Fate has won.

He stands dejected,
in disgust,
bitter of tongue,
covered in dust.

Wailing woefully, he shouts aloud
to no one but a passing cloud,

"Oh My, Oh Me,
Oh where, oh where, could my conical thingy be?"'

('Channeling' Dr. Seuss) lol

Good hunting Thomas and perhaps the 'burning bush' will find a place as the Lift Actuation Warning Beacon, if the 'Field of Dreams' hope gets dashed.

I think you might have the first piece that would be required to build one of these.

You might be on to something there! :D

Wonder how it would look on the roof of the '62 SS (Super Sheriff). I would need to change the color somewhat and then there's those dog dish hub caps and another pair of doors, hummmm............

Hey Chris, guess what we just can't possibly live without..............

SALT FEVER
Thomas
Jacob & I are starting to get the Symptoms of SALT FEVER again.
We got a cycle & we are getting it ready for Bonneville. This is what it looked like when it was new off the showroom Floor

cx500tphoto.jpg

Since we have it stripped down to almost the frame & motor it doesn't look like much right now. We aren't 100% sure what it will look lik when we get to Bonneville. Here is a photo of how it looked the other day.

A-1.jpg

Jacob has assured me when we get it finished it will look BITCHEN

Hope to see you at the Salt

Thomas, when I worked in an auto parts store in the '50s we stocked replacement Tungar bulbs for battery chargers-----LOU-----

That's interesting, I'd never heard of them till I found that charger. What are the chances you saved a bulb Lou? :) But then for all I know that charger works as is, in fact I guess I'd be surprised if it didn't.

Are we going to get Jacob and Randy into the Roadster club? At the very least we should save them some space next to SDRC pits at Bonneville don't you think?

Well if it was, to a man of means such as yourself, that's nothing but a mere trifle. :D Wonder if you could get Sears to underwrite your shop? :dunno: Now that would would be cool, eh?

The Plot Thickens!

Can't wait; the suspense builds and your audience is held with baited breath while we await a story from Thomas (The Teller of Titillating Tales). This may even surpass the 'Mystery Manifold' saga! I suspect the 'burning bush' might involve Dillinger, Capone, Scarface, or maybe even the suspicious looking character in the first picture, the one with the shifty eyes. lol The manual press may have been used to coerce Chicago voters or the rare 'honest' politician found somewhere far outside the boundaries of the Windy City! The stage is set, the clues are shown and now we wait for the tale to be told. We are captivated already, Thomas; tell us the tale!

Thomas,
I’ll apologize right now for the momentary hijack of your thread, but I know that a few anvil aficionados frequent this place, so I thought this was worth posting.
Check out http://www.vandertook.com/forge/salebill.htm

There are three anvils listed on this sale, a Trenton, a Peter Wright, and a Hay Budden.

There are some pictures at the bottom of the page, but I wouldn’t be able to identify which is which. :eyecrazy:

Now, back to regularly scheduled programming…..

I can't wait! Now Now Now!

First Thomas teases us with the prelude to what is sure to be another wonderful story, then IMCA38 tantalizes and taunts us (me) with an auction (with anvils!!!) tomorrow in Nebraska, which is just a smidge out of my commuting range, and now you think it's ok?!?! Seriously man.... Where are your priorities?!?! :lol_hitti

I don’t know where to begin; after spending all my spare moments the last three weeks reading this post from beginning to end, both at home and at work, I have to reach out to say thank you Thomas and Chris. As a fellow car guy, drag racer, restorer of buildings and all things mechanical, I am amazed by your abundant skill set and patience. Your story lifts all whom have read it to a new level, you have given me more patience and attention to detail in the tasks set before me. From the perfectly fitted dovetails on your new bench to the forward thinking that went into the planning of your new shop floor, you have taught us to take the time to do it right, and given us the satisfaction of seeing it through. It’s not quite enough that you have accomplished so much in so little time but that you have carefully documented all of this great work in detail and shared it with us is quite amazing. It is because of you and others like you that Garage Journal is the go-to place to hang out with like-minded, trusted friends. The warmth shown between members here and within your postings is very satisfying in this world of fast paced multi-tasking. I am off to get back to rebuilding my newly found Sun 1020 Scope thanks to you, keep up the eye for perfection and attention to detail. Thank you so, Brian

New member here trolling through threads... Wanted to add my congratulations on a truly wonderful shop restoration/labor of love. My favorite part of the before/after pictures is you keeping the "CASH ONLY" sign!

As I've mentioned before there were certain key components when I was doing the restoration that I felt would be essential in keeping the spirit of the old shop alive and present and that sign was one of them. I was holding my breath, hoping that it would be left behind by the family after I bought the shop. It was important to not only retain that sign, but to reinstall it back in it's original spot. It was something like saving the frosting on a piece of cake till last. As the shop restoration progressed I kept thinking about when the day would come and I would rehang it. I did gently clean off much of the welding smoke which had darkened it's surface before it went back up. My eye is drawn to it every time I go into the shop for the first time each day. I derive a great sense of satisfaction seeing it hanging there, just as I'd always seen it growing up.

Thanks Lugnutz and again welcome.

Never a worry about that IMCA38, it's all for "the good of the cause" The Hay Budden looks remarkably like mine, even in size though that's a little hard to gauge from the picture. If anyone here is following that auction, please post in an update. Rick, here's your chance for an authentic vintage Hay Budden. You can just strap it to the back of your bike and take it home!

Thanks Randy for the link. You and Jacob are forever linked to the shop now and would never receive flak from here! I feel your Bonneville efforts are partly the result from Jacobs rekindled interest in his legacy with Al Jerauld and his "Y" manifold from the shop.

BTW, I'm having trouble with my CBX500 files so I'm not ignoring your bike posts, trust me. I'm still tying to get something on here about it. Thanks for the updates.

Hello there Brian and a most warm welcome to you sir. It is thoughts like yours and others that make all my efforts here so worthwhile. I don't have a great deal of time to explore the internet but I agree from what I have seen, by and large, the Garage Journal is pretty special as are it's members.

While I'm aware I do give, I feel I get back so much more in return. I feel strongly in the tenet of "pay it forward". My family and I have been blessed with role models who helped shape us into what we are. You've read it here before, but for me, Dad more than anyone set the tone early in my life and I find I wish to share some of what I've learned from him. It isn't just physical skills but attitudes and philosophies as well. It has served me well through life. So welcome to the continuing saga and study hard. Chris tells me she hasn't given up hope of posting that dreaded quiz. ;) I hope you'll enjoy what lays ahead for us here.

Now how about some pictures of that Sun 1020? :)
