I have one similar to it that I use in my high school shop. Works great for tires, ok for changing oil. Don't plan to drop any transmissions, fuel tanks or exhaust systems though.

I know a handful of people with that type of lift. I've never heard about any of them not liking it.

I am new to this forum. I have a "Powder Blue" KwikLift that I bought 3 years ago. I love it. Used it for my rolling restoration of '88 7series and numerous other work. I have now moved and can't set it up! It is complete with 2 cross members, hydraulic bottle jack for aiding in wheel work (Wow what a dif from crawling on the floor) a Big Red jack with a custom saddle for raising the lift and accessories (wheel chocks, etc) I think I've got to sell it.

agreed.... dont plan on doing fuel or brake lines either. Im wondering if you could install a FWD trans on something like that...

I have a small garage and a low roof, so the scissor lift was the only way to go. It is a pin to get to the center of the car, but is sure beats jack stands and a creeper.

I have Mohawk USL-6000 lift much better made than made in china knock offs (blue sissor lifts) 2000 pounds vs 600 pound weight for made in china knock offs, thicker steel etc. cost more too. I have low ceiling in garage plus it's nice to be able to move lift out to driveway to work..

I have a ceiling of 9' in my garage... I bought a bendPak 4 post lift,, It does the trick for most of my stuff... I roll around on a low stool to get things done. In the winter months I store my Cobra roadster on top and put my daughters vw cabriolet on the bottom, its tight but works..

You can get the effect of a full rise lift in a low ceiling garage. Just construct a pit and put a max jack over the top. There is a thread elsewhere that shows a 4 post lift over a pit.
You've got to get creative!

After several months of extensive research, I decided on the EXCARLIFT of which I'm planning to purchase after we get settled into our new home. Fits my situation perfectly.

I have the Bendpak and love it! As mentioned above, transmission and exhaust work isn't ideal but it's awesome for suspension, brakes, tires, etc. I've still managed to replace an S2K ****** and exhaust and a WRX ****** on the lift using the extended lift pads to get a bit more clearance.

I bought the Atlas. I had to build some platforms out of 2x12s in order to drive over it though. As has already been said, it'll be fine for tire swaps and suspension/front end work. I am considering a Maxjax for the other side of the garage. If another group buy comes around, I'll buy one.

I published a whole thread on the install of the Atlas Mid-rise, and later a direct comparison to the MaxJax, just search on Dolfan.

It is a nice lift in general. There were a few points about the lift that did frustrate me.

  • Lifting cars with wide jack points was a pain. Putting my C5 Z06 on it was frustrating due to the length of the pivoting arms.
  • Couldn't even get a oil drain positioned well on several cars. It depends on where the drain was but some cars it was difficult due to the scissor part of the base, sometime backing on made this better.
  • I wish the standard cable and hose were longer so the power unit was father away from the lift.
  • Required a 30A circuit to work properly for me, both my MaxJax and Benpack 4-post run on the 15 amp just fine.

Don't get me wrong the lift is a good piece and priced right, but after having the MaxJax I would have recommended the MaxJax over the Atlas hands down.

What did you encounter with the Atlas and a 15 amp circuit? Mine seems to be working fine.

Love my EZCARLIFT!

I just use mine for tires, brakes and detailing the wheel wells. For the more detailed work I have a friend who has a four post lift I use.
