Did a roll bar for my Father-in-law's little Miata (keyword, LITTLE)

Finished my Hybrid Internal/External cage for my Cherokee:

The internal tubes go through the roof to tie into the external halo, and through the floor to tie into the chassis/sliders

Here you go Case.
The tubing is D.O.M. .125'' wall X 1 3/4'' Diameter. I believe the alloy is 1045 or so. Hates to be bent in a tight radius.
This half cage was built to meet F.I.A. rules. for A.S.N. rally

3/16'' plate for main bar and rear diag.

Because it happens to be in my garage right now in need of a new heart. I did a good amount of the chassis, suspension, and everything welding on it, along with cutting, designing, etc.

How about Ape Hangers for a wheelchair?

Actually they are just handle extensions. The chair is pediatric and for my 6yo niece who has to get surgery on her foot to correct a birth defect. My sister is 5'12" and pregnant again and the handles on the pediatric chair were too low so I made these extensions. The purple accoutrements are a little bonus for my BIL.

This week it's a blue one.

When they brought it here, they off loaded it pointing the wrong way.
Well then ,I just had to get in and turn it around no?
So I get to the road and then.....................The devil made me put 3.2 km
on it.
I got it up to third and saw the little red light go on (God)!
That made my day!These cars are ridiculously fun to drive.
No wonder I'm putting bars in these things all the time, there a regular rocket.

when your making up foot plates for rollcages what thickness steel do you use for them if ya dont mind me asking??

North American F.I.A. rules state that you need to have a min. thickness of 3/16'' or .1875'' and a surface of at least 36 sq. in.per anchor plate.
All tubing including braces must be D.O.M drawn over mandrel seamless of 1 .75'' dia. with a wall of.125''.
I've repaired cages that were built in Europe and they use .125'' thick plate and .065 walled tubing................dangerous IMOHO.
Takes a whole lot to bend one of ours.
What is pictured is the min. required to enter an event.
A full cage is required if they run faster times or if they increase the horsepower.

The rules call for this gusset in the X. I use this home made tool to get a perfect alignment in the X.

Now,l every time I weld some thing I think of ZTfab and hold my breath
while welding. Kidding myself that my weld will turn out as pretty as his.......

Some nice lookin cages in here... this is my first attempt at a cage so be easy! I also did the front fenders. The fenders were out of 1.75 .120 HREW and the cage was 1.75 .120 DOM.

This is rectangular tubing, and a small project, but it fits the description of this thread.

I needed to lift a 1200-pound, 5-foot-wide machine with an engine hoist. Bought a 10-foot stick of 2" X 4", 1/4" thick hollow tube. Used half of it for the main spreader bar, then cut a couple of brackets with a little of the extra tube. Had a friend weld them on for me...

I intended the spreader bar to attach directly to the lifting bar of the engine hoist...

Nice spreader but if you value the three in one hanging off it, you might wanna buy some proper slings instead of using ratchet straps.

Thanks. Actually, there are real lifting slings in there...but at 6 feet long, they ended up being 1 foot too short, so I added 2-ton ratcheting straps, in their shortest configuration, for this move (since the stores were closed by this time.) 8-foot slings are on my shopping list.

Finished these a while back. 2-1/8" 304 SS w/ 28" primary tubes and merge collectors. They are for a 75 Monza tube chassis car with a raised deck 436ci sbc. All constructive criticism is welcome.

Guy brings me a new shorty header to replace his rusted one that was modded for extra steering shaft clearance. Asks if I can modify the new one like the old one. I think it might have turned out better.

Nice looking headers Defender Chassis, I see nothing I could critisize. Did you make those collectors also?

Thanks, I bought the collectors from Columbia River Mandrel. I did attach the 3.5-4" transition though.

Funny thing about that job, with respect to $/hr, it paid way better than the SS job I showed first. Not everybody wants or can afford a set of stainless tubes. I did not grind down the weld inside the one tube. It did not really dawn on me that I should since the application is not high hp.

I disagree.

I **** you not, but I've seen worse... more than once.

I used to get all sorts of cheap DIY'ers roll into my shop to help them troubleshoot issues with their "home brew" turbo cars. I'd always heard the term "bundle of grapes" when referring to welding... I know where the term comes from. "stack of dimes" is much preferable!!

Here's a tailpipe a guy made up at my old work, he was employed as a TIG welder, unbelievable, and no one who worked there could see anything wrong. I don't work there anymore.

Where is the best place to buy mandrel bent tube if you don't have the ability to bend it?

I used to get mandrel bends from Bassani, but these days I have a local high-end muffler shop mandrel bend the stuff I use. Pricing is fair because I buy often and in reasonable volume, and I get the same thing every time.

I'm amazed at how rare mandrel bending machines are still... Seems like hardly any around and the bends still cost quite a bit. It is one of those things that I figured would of gotten cheaper and more and more shops would of invested to the point mandrel bends would of been "the norm"

Headers and side pipes for my Cobra replica. Side pipes are repackable and you can change the baffles out for different types. These ones have Cats in them for emissions.

Another STI , this time with a chromoly cage all cnc pre made.
Just like Ikea.

It's all sandblasted clean. This should be one of the more enjoyable ones to do.

It has to be seam welded also.

80kg's not bad at all.
