Thats a good looking grill, I just moved to Vandenberg AFB which is 20 minutes from Santa Maria. This is my first experience with this style of grilling and I will be building one of these myself soon.

Thanks, I don't have a charcoal grill and I love Tri Tip. I also like pig, chicken, roasted chilies, etc. Thought this would be the best "all in one" solution. I guess I'll see how practical it is.

Enjoy your build!

Very nice grille.

The Ninja guy Broke my weld!:scared:

I posted the original repair last winter or last season, I don't remember. But he broke it down the middle.....

It hurts a welders pride when something breaks next to a weld.
But when they break down the middle it really hurts!!
I humbly present you with my failed repair.

dscn1062p.jpg

But, he did hit a sand bag on the highway at 65mph..and managed to stay upright after his wobble and underwear staining event.:D

So again, I gauged out the weld area. With a die grinder and wax.

dscn1063y.jpg

dscn1064ci.jpg

And re welded.

dscn1065ed.jpg

Then I got to thinking......

dscn1066m.jpg

dscn1069n.jpg

Take that sucker! 6061-T6 0.074'' sheet and 1/16th 5356 welding rod. Leaving points to spread the load and not a blunt transition.

...... broke it down the middle.....

So, as I am scrolling down your post, I am thinking to myself: "it's just going to break again in the same place" and BAM - the very next photo shows the reinforcement plate you welded in. Try and break that NinjaRider!!

Good work as always Dude!!

Nasty, I don't think that should give you any more grief. That should spread the load out over a much larger surface area.

Looks good. I love looking at all of the cool stuff you get to work on. Keep it up.

I would love to get back to work on my son's new sand quad chassis but I have been taking on a lot of side work lately. The wife needs a lymphatic pump as she is having some issues with her leg and the insurance won't cover it. I have been trying to get as much paying work into the shop as possible to be able to purchase one.

I did a welding job for a customer on an ATV last night but like an idiot I forgot to snap some pictures of it.

Keep the pics of your outstanding work coming. I enjoy seeing what cool **** you get to work on.

That's to bad about your wife, hope all goes well.
I hear ya about the side work, we all need more cash!
All the best
Claude

Thanks. I am confident everything will be just fine. The wife and I aren't dwelling on it and it isn't life threatening. She just comes home after work and her leg really bothers her. It kills me to see that so I thought we would try to acquire one of the machines but because it is not life threatening the insurance company won't allow us to get one.

Not to get off topic but one person at the company we are looking at getting one from told my wife to quit because if she was on Medicare of Medicaid then it would be paid for in full. She told them no she actually wants to work and enjoys working and doesn't believe in someone else taking care of her.

Funny how society thinks about some things. We would rather work hard and get the pump on our own but others would like it to be given to them regardless of who has to pay for it.

Sorry about the rant.

Mike.

Added a Miller Trailblazer to my collection of welders . I wanted to keep it in garage for power outages so I made a cart. I have 10 acres and play hobby farmer so a gas drive is handy. I got a old boat trailer for $25.00 and modified it so I
can set trailblazer and cart on it. Now I can trailer it instead of using loader tractor . I got some pig pens to work on so it will be great.

I saw a stand like this at a metal shaping class I went to. Decided it would be a good project.
It is a brake drum from a concrete truck with some pipe and plate welded up. The bar on top is 2" square steel with a 1" bore in it. The 2" bar is split (about half way down the length )to loosen up the bore a little . Some bolts are tapped into the side to snug it up (the 1" bore) . This way I can put a variety of tools in it and it's rock solid. Tighten the bolts and the tool inside doesn't move ( like a bike seat).

Wish I had the room or the brake drum! I like it.

Nice work! What did you make the turn table out of? I use a swivel base of an old Lazy Boy for heavy electrical equipment I work on. But the bearings would get all slagged up if welded with it.

I gotta stop looking at ZTFab's pictures of welds...they make me wanna stick my head in the oven. Some needs to go over there and see if he's actually human!

Kald,
The turntable is 1-1/2" pipe with a 12" circle cut from 3/16 flat plate. The table frame id 2" sq. tubing so the pipe slides in the tubing either horizontal or vertical. Fits snug and works great. Striped about 2' of insulation off of a ground cable, just wrap it around the pipe and let it drag as you turn. Makes a good connection and doesn't arc.
Even better is the fact I pulled everything out of my junk pile so all I bought was the 1/4" plate top.

Not really a project but just showing off ;)

A few years ago when I was in practice with the tig, would take me a couple weeks to get back to being able to do this. Never could figure out how to walk the cup though

In school we had to do this also.
2 cans but on but,
2 cans top on top,
cut a can vertical in half, and weld it back water tight.

This is half the reason I even bought a welder. Seems most fabbed products in the offroad motorsport are 50% materials 50% labor/overhead. With Jeep bumpers it's more like 25%-75%. I'm sure not but that is my perception.

A $650 ARB bull bar on my $600 ZJ... no.

Great looking work. What do you have in the materials if you don't mind?
