How useful do you think these are today on cars? What do you think of the price? Thanks

Junk. You can get a DVM that handles all that and more. Also get a timing light with a dial set.

I bought one of those and that timing light off ebay years ago just because they looked neat and were cheap. I haven't used either since! But they still look cool!

So, how would I use a DVM to set points? How would i use a DVM to set the idle air screws on a Carter AFB? Using a DVM on new stuff is fine, but if using it on older cars, trucks and tractors, they won't always work very well or as easy or work at all.

A timing light with a dial set isn't need if using on older engines and can be just something else that can break.

$40 is a decent asking price.....maybe get them down to thirty or so.

I have my dad's from the 70's. I use it to tune my 59 Austin-Healey Sprite.

Yea, I'm wondering the same thing. How does a dvm read dwell? Or more specifically can one buy a dvm that reads dwell?

Guess I am old too

I have the Mac ET-920, which appears to be made by the same company that makes these Sears versions. Very useful when messing around with my buddy's old Comet.

That said, they do make DVOMs that can do dwell. I have an old Kal-Equip "Digital Engine Analyzer" that I got back in the 1980's from a pawn shop. It does basics like volts, ohms, RPM, dwell and diode checks. I also have a newer/more advanced DVOM from Kal Equip, (model 3002) that has a dwell function, so they do exist.

Well, unless you're working on vehicles made before '85 ish, it's only gonna be good to see the battery voltage.
OOPS, sorry didn't see the timing light until I put my glasses on. I'd go 25.

The old analyzers show up at swap meets and yard sales for $5 or $10, if you need one, you already know you need one.
