Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I'm not looking forward to doing mine. How did you keep all the screw straight and in the narrow 1.5" wood rafter? Any tips? My trusses are 44 ft and they just have a natural wave to them. When I did the walls we ran a rotating laser which was really nice for shooting in the screws nice and straight.

Thanks

My trusses are 40 feet, the trusses were extra wavy (nearly 3 inches) as the wind nearly blew the shop down before the builder sheeted the roof. This job was a pain in the ***, I started by drilling a half dozen sheets and found out that it wasn't going to work, then I measured for each sheet, drilled individually and hung them. Amazing enough, you can only see the waviness (sp) if you are at ceiling height, not from the floor. The hardest part was installing the 23 foot long sheets by myself, 16 feet off of the floor. The manlift that I picked up has paid for itself many times on this project!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Took a few hours to remove all the cluttered junk along the far wall of the garage in preparation for better shelving. Too much clutter!

Glad it was a nice sunny and cool day. I was able to put it all out in the driveway. Then it was a challenge to keep people from thinking it was a garage sale with tons of tools. Keep out! Keep out! It's mine, you hear? All mine! Muahahahaahahaha!

Got the wall bared, floor cleaned, now ready for the shelving units.

The goal here was to replace a single wire shelf unit, an old dead dresser, and junk shelving with something a bit more uniform. The two middle shelves are angle iron with OSB shelving bolted into the shelves adjacent to them. The idea was to set the height to allow the parts washer to slide under the media blast cabinet.

The whole thing is definitely more efficient than what was there, and I am considering how to add doors to those units next. I'd love to have these behind doors for a cleaner look.

Off topic, but I used this on my shed that had the same problem prior to insulation:

How does that install? Do you need to change your shingles?

Even with a man lift thats some feat, to install 23' panels by yourself, more power to ya! my 16 footers were difficult enough with my 70 yr old father helpin me! killed my elbow in the process, and it took a few weeks for that pain to go away!

i only would drill about 3-4 panels at a time and remeasure and adjust holes if required for the trusses

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Strictly speaking, as its such a glorious day today, it was “outside my garage”! I fitted some camber and toe wedges to back of my kit car. It is a Robin Hood 2B+ and the running gear come from a Ford Sierra. In the USA I think it is known as the Merkur!
Here is my 2B

The rear swing arm sits much higher in relation the chassis in the 2B than it does in the Sierra which means the camber and toe in become excessive. Here is the swinging arm as it sits in the 2B, in the sierra the arm probably hangs down a good 5 inches lower.

These are the shims which are tapered in 2 direction to “fix” the camber and toe.

Firstly I removed the half shaft nuts, rear callipers and discs (rotors), then using a slide hammer puller I removed the hubs from the bearing carriers, then the carriers and disc shields.

Then the wedges sit between the swing arm and all the gear just removed.

Re-assembly was straight forward and should improve the “on the limit” handling (already ****** superb!), bump steer and tyre wear! While I was there a gave the discs a lick of paint and touched some paint chips on the callipers.
This is how the wedges sit when fitted, rear view.

Front view.

Last night I installed my EVO Manufacturing No Limits Rubicon Swaybar disconnect after removing the bulky, limiting electronic disconnect motor. I then used my AEV Procal to recalibrate the PCM and turn off the sway bar light on the dash.

We then pulled my son's LJ into the shop and started building a bracket to mount his Viair air compressor to for his on-board air system.

:lol_hitti I do that a lot but I usually drink a beer between "looked around, shook my head" then I walk out.

but last night I did stay long enough to pull the seats and middle console out of the bird. Getting ready to change the auto to a 4 speed.

Nice looking car! BUT, please tell me that us an optical illusion on the paint by the shim on the fender.

Coper lines? Are they strong enough?

No!:mad:That's a rough spot in the gel coat! I have just got a polisher which will be used once the gel coat has been sanded smoother!

Never had an issue with copper as a brake line! Most UK kit cars are built with them as are most classic cars restorations!

Love it to bits! Best £6k I have ever spent!

Well, I was going to pull the heater core out of the Grand Am, but my wife had a broken sliding glass (mirror) door fall on her and slice her arm open, so instead it was off to urgent care to get that wound stitched together.

If you either painted - or better yet wrapped - the fridge with something cool it'd make the entire space!

Pure copper brake lines have a tendency to work harden and crack so most people use Kunifer which is copper (Cu) Nickel (Ni) Iron (Fe) alloy which is softer and less prone to fatigue. Looks like copper though.

Jim

It replaces your drip edge. I put mine on as part of a reshingle. If your shingles are in okay shape and you can remove the bottom 2 rows without damaging those above, you should be able to do a partial replacement.

It is! Easy to bend with a proper tool.

I would think twice about copper brake lines. The copper is more susceptible to puncture. Also, brake fluid is highly corrosive, will strip the copper, contaminating the fluid. I would go with steel braided line.

I had an almost catastrophic fail on a copper brake line in the first MGA I owned many years ago. Happened on a particularly twisty bit of road on a downhill section with a tight turn at the bottom and a lake just beyond and I was at almost full chat. One of the closest calls I have had, and I had to change my shorts when I got through the corner. I'm not sure if it was original equipment or had been replaced but I was sure to change to steel line after that.:scared:

went out to the new shop for the first time to do something other than work on the shop itself, I fixed my kill/starter control on my vulcan motorcycle. apparently a spring in the kill switch rusted away(under the copper contact plate of all places, had something workable in my box of weird and got it starting every time again.

Worked on the DIY recumbent bicycle project some more with my wife. It is really coming along! Tomorrow I should have the main upper and lower bars tac welded in place.

Still haven't figured out what to use for a seat yet, would hate to have that be what delays me from finishing it!

Spent 3 hours teaching a new guy how to bleed the brakes on his 05 R1200GS, then added a couple of power outlets to his bike!

It was about 95° in the garage!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I built this over the weekend, but it took until today to put it to use. It is adjustable in width and length to accommodate other vehicles. The car will be getting a full resto so we opted to do this instead of typical wheel dollies since the car will be without suspension and wheels for a lot of the process:
