Battery box with the external jumper points is brilliant! Maybe I could use that on my shop truck as I'm always rescuing myself and others with it.....

I too like the idea of having external contact/jumper points. I have used external connection points on our 1940 Chev coupe and our sandrail due to the battery being located in a hard to get to area. They work great and by getting that ugly battery out of the way really ad to the aesthetics.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Quick question for you guys.

I don't open that valve up until the air compressor only has about 30 left in the tank. When do you open it up?

My operator's manual says to wait until its 30 psi or less to open it. I think (but not sure) because it'll put too much pressure on it.
SO I usually wait until its 30psi or less. I pull the pin on the regulators and it stays open until around 40 or so and then hold it until 30psi then open the drain.

.....Every seam inside is caulked as well. I will take a better picture later but pretty much where wood meets wood looks seemless now as compared to gaps and what not. I think I used a total of 9 tubes of caulk..hahah

-Nigel

9 tubes of caulk. It's not a shed, it's a private hot tub with traction on the bottom.;)

That's what you get for reading an instruction manual... holding a pin for 10psi. :wtf:

so whats your solution:dunno:? Hold the valve pin open for 10psi only takes what a whole minute or so? I've had to replace the valve once and believe it was due to opening it with more than 40+ psi, didnt know about the 30 psi until I was looking for the part number and came across the 30 or less recommendation>

Turned this pile of parts into something
https://sphotos-b.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/598417_888346105187_2110035825_n.jpg

Then my wife posted the finish product on Facebook and her friends fell in love with it.
https://sphotos-b.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/935039_888397542107_100462244_n.jpg
Had about $75 into it and sold it for $200!! I guess I need to find more parts and make one for myself

I have an idea for cup holders and a recliner feature that I may try as well. I also might try a pull out foot rest using a rear bumper and a receiver hitch

You know.....Shocker might have read the thread that davesnothere posted about being in the doghouse with his wife and this is just preplanning.

HEY NIGEL.....what do you have under the shingles? Is it 15# felt paper or is it a rubber membrane? The reason I ask is that with the style of roof you put on it, you can end up with leaks. If you look at the high side of the roof, rain can get in UNDER your shingles. Then later on with heat and then cooling, if the nails happen to loosen their grip a little, water makes it's way through and starts leaking at your nails.

I have been trying to find a pic to show you what you need to do to that end and finally found a couple. I'm not sure ( I still haven't had enough coffee) what that style of roof is. I've always called it a shed roof but I'm not sure that is the "proper" name. I had it on my first house where the end of my kitchen roof came out past the rest of the house. You can get a flashing/cap/drip edge that goes over your existing drip edge, or go to Lowes, HD, local lumberyard, and get a different style drip edge that is very wide at the roof side and remove and replace the existing one with it. I'd hate to see you go to all that work and make it nice, just to have leaks.

One thing you will need to do though, is overform whatever you get because most are bent on 90 degree angles. You would need to bed it past the 90 degrees to meet your roof angle.

You could also catch a siding guy in your area, or check out either a plumbing shop or a HVAC place that bends up sheetmetal and have one made. You're all good everywhere else other than the exposed shingle edge on the front.

The last pic shows what I mean. I've looked for 45 minutes and cannot find a good detailed pic, but I think these will give you an idea what I'm trying to convey.

I appreciate the information! I used #15 felt. That's a very valid point on the leaking and I actually did something very similar to what you are illustrating with the drip edge. I pretty much have the shinges all the way to the top, then the drip edge, and then another top layer of shingle covering the drip edge so if water WERE to get under the drip edge it's going to be goin through the rain groove of the bottom layer of shingles never touching the roof if that makes sense.. Pretty much exactly what your picture illustrates is what I did.

I think it's held up actually quite well because go figure as soon as I was done building the top it POURED almost for a week straight. I checked everything and not a drop or dampness inside.

Honestly looking back at what I did the only way water would get in is if you took a garden hose and actually sprayed it up and under the drip edge and even at that point I caulked under it ...lol

Excellent info and thank you for taking the time to look it up!!

:)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Decided to build a little work bench / table to put in the shed. All scrap lumberuse that I had completely left over. The laminate top is from my craigslist cabinet score that I took off and replaced with a butcher block for the garage to make it look nicer... rather than throwing this out I am reusing it and serves it's purpose quite nicely by going in the shed.

I will probably paint the wood either white to match and blend in with the walls or possibly paint it red... not sure at this point. White would probably be better the more that I think about it..

First time making anything like this so I was kinda winging it as I was going... It's quite sturdy and it holds my weight, my fathers, and my wifes all at the same time, so I know it can hold roughly 420lbs. But pretty much it will be used to hold the string trimmer as I put new string in it..lol Probably a little over kill ...

I'm still deciding if I want to put a piece of plywood at the bottom but can't figure out how to support it from sagging. I'd actually like to do that so I can store the gas cans right there and other items...

Good job! I like that you used left over supplies/wood. As to building it strong, thats good because at first it starts with just restringing the weed eater then it moves to lawn mower repair then before you know it you have a disassembled 440 engine on it lol (ask me how I know:bounce:)

I would just add some bracing to the bottom and run the plywood edge to edge like so:

My 60 gallon doesn't have a pin. My old 26 and 33 did, but I opened the drain on the bottom anyway from the top so I wouldn't have to wait for the pin to do it.

I adjusted the AC compressor clutch gap in the wife's car as a clutch isn't available as a separate assembly for it. Cold air again!

I never took it any other way Bro. But thought maybe there was another way to open from the regulator and keep it draining so you dont have to hold the pin until 30psi(This is on my craftsman 26 gal), but the shop 120 gal I dont have a pin but draining system. I'm still convienced if I open the drain at above 40psi it'll mess the valve up (or was it just a fluke???).

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Have a bike ben setting for 10 years, tired of pushing it around the garage. So I serviced it fired it, took it out for a ride and the front brake started to drag. Jacked it up, serviced the caliper just some 10 year **** on the pins, little emory WD and brake cleaner all freed up.

When I called to get insurance on it, I went for collision and theft, selling a bike one needs that. The lady told me the bike is so old it is actually going up in value and replacement is 9 - 13 K. Nice surprise and a good selling point. Buy this bike it is going up in value, buy today sell for a profit tomorrow quite the selling line. Better than ronco and no shipping and handling..

The bike has a small amout of a pedigree, painted by a local guy who was featured on biker build off, 1990 Easyrider photographed it but never printed, yeah baby a stripper graced the seat. Back in the day before they all started to look like walking comic books with the tats.

So not a bad day now I need a buyer..

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

not much

i was sweating too much :FIREdevil

yesterday afternoon i finished loading all my scrap in my truck, and headed to the scrap yard this morning.
stopped at a buddy of mines place on the way back, and diagnosed his trailer wiring problem on his utility trailer, and remounted the lights.

came home, let the dog out, swept out a years worth of crud, leaves, mud, and rocks out of the back of the truck, grabbed a beer, and sat down to sweat for a few minutes....

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Got the top and platter slew bearing mounted on a rotary table I'm building for a client. The rotary table is meant to spin a 28" 500lbs platter with less than .020" planar runout. Almost **** my pants when I was test fitting the slew bearing and it bound up(still movable but stiff) after torqueing down the 15 bolts that go around the perimeter. I guess the top plate wasn't flat enough. Was able to remedy the issue by epoxying the spacer ring to the top first. Phew, glad I didn't mess up $600 worth of bearing or have to be out of pocket to have a stiffner made up.

My Dremel tool blew up while I was using it. This when lightning struck real close. Got a zap on the hand. I think it was a capacitor inside that blew. Talk about scary.

Looks like you may have wanted some 'roll under' room; so how about a couple of triangles on either side but leave the middle open for a stool or chair to roll under the table. So a mitered 2x for a 'front' support(connecting the front leg with the back lower rail) with a plywood top...still got room for the tootsies underneath and a bit of a parking area for the shop stool.

And for our 'new' 2.3 bay garage, I shop-vac'd the cobwebs and blew out the dust while trying to imagine how I'm gonna get four bicycles and a third garage bay's worth of 'stuff' in that 'little bitty bay' that's 4' 6" wide x 23 deep. Also, there's ONE overhead light(apparently dying) in the parking area...NOTHING for light in the 'bonus bay'. I gots me some work to do!!!:headscrat

Don't replace it with another dremel, do your self a favor and look into a Proxxon rotary tool. I will not buy anything dremel with a motor again.

Started off cutting down a dead tree in the back yard. It went so good SWMBFAO decided to clean up the trees around the power lines. The last one has vines around it and the power pole. Ended up calling the power company to finish dropping it. I bet they bill me for that visit.

I use my dremel a lot, even abuse it. Havent had to replace one in a few years, but I guess its because even though I'm rough on it I do clean it often and do maint.
Never tried a Proxxon. Whats the good selling points on it? Always looking for better tools.

Send it in to Dremel, I've had dremels since I was a kid and they have always either repaired mine or sent me a new one that was an upgrade, although I have only sent in 4 units 2 were repaired and 2 were upgraded and I have never paid for anything except the shipping to them. They have always sent me a bit of some sort also, with the last 3 times were flap wheels.

Does Dremel have a lifetime warranty? I think I have two or three that are messed up (from the wife's family). it would be nice to get them replaced.

Started disassembly on the bike so I can pull the motor and replace the worn out cam chain guide. People are starting to wonder why it sounds like it has a blower on it! Then I cleaned up the place so I can actually see the top of the workbench and walk around without climbing/tripping over tools and pieces of projects. I also took some measurements to see where I can squeeze a 44" tool chest in case I happen to find a few extra bucks laying around soon.

I sent them in with the full intention of paying for what repairs were needed, sent email addresses, phone contact info and all but a couple of weeks after I sent them in packages come with no invoices or anything just a thank you notes for using their products. Ive got a 4000 just waiting for it to go so I can sent it in and see what happens. Got a multi-max and saw max and thought the multimax would have died by now but the damn thing just keeps on going. Would like an excuse to buy a fein but it still does the job and I ain't rich.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

"in my box of weird " <--- I love that.

Been too hot to do much of anything IN the garage. The foam panels I added to the back side of the door seem to be helping. Now I've got to get some roof ventilation in. There is a turbine on the roof but no soffit venting. So if the doors are closed, no air movement or venting at all... It really lets the heat build up. I've had to point a fan at my fridge to help cool it down. Otherwise the fridge can't keep up.

I bought a 1978 Glastron boat, so I've been doing a bunch of work in front of the garage :) Deck is rotten, stringers are probably rotten, motor turns over, but didn't start before the battery died. All the stuff to run the boat is there, so I'm pretty sure it was running recently. (Floatation, first aid, flares, etc.) I got it at a seizure auction. Good trailer, so I'm ok on cost even if the boat is a total no hope, but it would be fun to get it out on the water.

Worked on the recumbent for a few more hours today. I made a chain up and made a seat out of 2 ply's of 3/4" OSB (one on each side of the pipe secured together with 3" deck screws). Test ride with no brakes, no gear shift, no backrest and very stretched handlebars was a success!

Disassymbled the swim spa tarp and welded two sticks of 1/2 inch pipe together. Then re installed on the tarp so it can be rolled up again. Then cleaned up in the garage some.
