A nice teaser for a Friday evening . . . picked up an old HERBRAND 1829 w/script logo, SO 1" impact socket, 15/16" CHALLENGER and a 22mm HUSKY. All of the sockets will be used as opposed to collected. The HERBRAND will be preserved in my GJ toolbox. Also picked up a 13mm WILLIAMS BWM (whatever that stands for) another HERBRAND 1725 wrench and a RENAULT wrench. Most important: a Pabst Blue Ribbon church key! $8 for all of it.

I just shipped that exact Herbrand down to AL last week... I would LOVE to build a set of combo's with that logo!

I stopped by a used tool shop going out of business. I found 20 C-man end wrenches, 1/4" to 3/4 some MM too. I walked up to the guy and he lays them on the counter and counts them out and says $100!!!! I said What? he said $5 a piece equals $100. I said they aren't that much new! He says if you want these you will pay $100.
Well I was pretty well in shock and I resonded and said what did you do before you got this shop? (He bought it about 5 years ago) Were you a used car salesman! The guy gets all red and says "Yes" and I was a good one. I laughed and turned around and left. I hit the nail on the head that time!

I went to a pawn shop and found a 7/8" C-man end wrench, a Diamond 10" crescent wrench and a 10" Ford,(auto) wrench that was rusted up bad and I couldn't even see if there was a name on it and there was no way it could work. $5 for all. I stuck it in vinagar and salt for two days and I took it out tonight and rinsed it off in waster and saw that it was made by Crescent and it was in great shape and the screw holding the adjusting nut came right out. It was beautiful. I was repainting a tool box so I cleaned it up and spray painted it hammer gray....Don't say anything, it is you guys fault. You have corrupted me.

They seemed nice and tight, blades looked good and tin snips come in handy. I figured for 25¢ I couldn't be out too much.

I have no idea what inlaid means to be honest with you.

EDIT: After a google search, it looks like Inlaid was a process, specific to Wiss to form a harder cutting edge. Since these aren't wiss snips, I don't think they are inlaid, BUT IDK?

9Four, you want to be careful about florescent lights and spinning tools/parts, at the right speed you can get strobe effect and things get sort of dicey for seeing what is actually happening. For close lighting it's best to have an incandescent (Or other constant on source) as well to "fill the gaps".

Right on Outlaw, I would like to mod some LEDs in there eventually but the twin tubes work good enough for now. I will certainly watch out for strobing, I have a triple T8 overhead.

OK My first Friday Estate sale in something like 9 months! I got there late ( almost 4:00) but better late than never!

This was the same Estate sake guy from last week and he wanted $20 for the Cobra 29, plus the"Silver Streak" 150 watt Linear amp (NOS), slide mount and antenna (Not shown). I tossed on the Camo Bag, Copper pipe flare tool, and Lawsen Parts tray (18 X 12 X 3", so larger that most of them), and he asked for $2 more Later I saw the Varminter Rifle rest, and for an added $5 it's mine.

Not too shabby even if there was only one tool and the one parts bin tray

That looks like my Waterloo Industrial minus the casters, logo, and a lock in the top center. And in red, not brown. Same arrangement, same handles. I had to go and look at mine twice. I bet it was stamped in the same factory. Nice!

Picked these up today, red one empty for 6$ made in Canada, Beach Industrial and the other for $4 with the tools. Box pretty much scrap as bottom rusted out pretty good.

Hit a few sales yesterday. First stop out in the country, not much for tools I wanted but picked up a bunch of cast iron decorations. I wanted the stars at top, there is 56 of them, more than enough for a flag. The rest will probably go back into the garage sale pile. I like the old funnel too, it has a screen and if you look at the pic youcan see there are standoffs on the neck so that air doesn't get trapped in container. $10 total

Next stop was a moving sale, not a lot of garage stuff but picked up a little brass hammer with Stanley soft tips, a new radio for the shop and other stuff. $15.75 total.

Third stop was a bust but fourth was pretty good. Lots of fairly full cans of WD40, PB blaster and others for 50 cents each, 7 Craftsman black handle Professional screwdrivers, made in Canada strap wrench and a 11/16 raised panel wrench, 2 like new ear muffs, short extension cord and other stuff. $16 total.

I got a call from someone who wanted to buy something from me off of Craigslist so I cut the day short. Made one last stop that was on the way home. As I was walking up the driveway I saw somebody lying in the driveway not moving. It was an older lady who had fallen and hit her head which was bleeding. I helped her up and clean up a little bit and went inisde for some help. The guys running the sale came out and we got her inside and cleaned up. A bruise on her face but otherwise OK. I didn't find much there I wanted, just a $2 USA made Pyrex bowl and a working vintage Rayovac flashlight that wasn't priced. I asked the guy how much for the flashlight and he said just stick it in my pocket as thanks for helping the lady.

And when I got home the guy from Craigslist was waiting and I sold him a chipper shredder for a nice litlle sum.

For those wondering I spent about $20 in gas.

Went to a couple sales this weekend. Got a Decent All American (looks to be Waterloo homeowners type)3 drawer box for $25. A lakeside 3-1/2" vise for $12 (not pictured) getting the restoration as I type this.

The best stop was a sale with a little old couple. I saw a old Kennedy box with no price. Asked them how much and they said $15-20 I gave them $17.50 perhaps not a screaming deal but this was so old with different drawer pulls than I have seen on a Kennedy that I had to buy it. Same sale got a 9/32 drive Snap On ratchet with extension and a few sockets mini plier (Not S.O.) all for $3. A Plomb 3/8 ratchet for $2. Snap on socket for .50 He gave me the old valve guide cleaner. I am going to post the Kennedy to the Vintage Box thread to see if anyone has a date on it.

Thanks for the kudos guys, I didn't really do much. It does remind me of another story, about two years ago I was driving home about 1 AM on a foggy night and a car was in my lane, realized it had just been in an accident. Car had been hit from behind on drivers side and other driver took off. Young lady in car was trapped inside, I helped her out the passenger side. Thank god she wasn't hurt, just shook up . Car was a small four door like a Honda Accord and the drivers side rear wheel was pretty much in the back seat. She was VERY lucky, my first aid skills ****. She described the truck that hit her, big white Ford truck. After calling 911 and getting all that taken care of I headed home, kinda pissed about the hit and run driver. About 8 miles down the road there is a white Ford truck parked in the middle of the road, running, with damage to passenger front side from hitting her. I walk up and open door and driver is passed out. Another phone call to 911 time! Cops came and hauled him off.

No it has a very worn Kennedy decal under the lid, very hard to make it out in the pic. The center hasp where it locks also has Kennedy stamped in it.

Just saw the decal and latch in the Vintage tool box thread. My old leather handle Kennedy does not have that style of pulls, yours are cool!

I suspect those drawer pills are not original Kennedy, (I have two leather handle K's that era) but as much of a pain those tiny originals are to grip at times, I could easily see someone replacing them and I think I like the ones you have there!

A call to or Email to Kennedy might clarify the situation. They seem to have a better sense of there history than many companies.

DAMN D!! Love that box!!

I had a Craftsman day today! First stop that yielded something was the Craftsman lock plate remover for a buck. Then we hit a few more and found the lamp for $3 after negotiations(I had 3 singles and a $20).

Several more unsuccessful stops and breakfast, then we hit an estate "tool auction" ran by my friend that I won the milling machine from. There was a lot of misc boxes of ****, I saw this one and it had a set of Craftsman wood knives hidden in the bottom so I bid and won. I had a call from a guy at the auction before we made it home wanting the knives, he had won the wood lathe. No sale, they comin home with me Also picked up the lil rolling stool for $1, spent $33 total after fees etc.
Highlights include a Craftsman multi meter(almost new), 6 NOS knives, Drill Doctor(like new,NOS?), Knopp voltage tester(NOS), Optivisor(lNOS), Ryobi detail sander(NOS), 1/4" Walden Worchester and 1/4" Proto Sets.

So I can't get that 6" jointer off my mind and drive back by Craftsman guy's house on the way home from the auction and see what he has left. I missed some good sh!t, I tell ya...He sold the entire trailer load for $600 yesterday so I picked out some Craftsman left on the tables. This was all $25 total. There is a 6x48 Craftsman sander, 3 Dogs for a 12" Crown Top wood lathe, 6 NOS crown top pulleys and one used, (another)crown top stapler, =Slip Joints=, two scrapers(one a crown top), and a band saw blade for the saw I bought yesterday.

Not too many stops and some were dead ends, but a few finds:


4 oz BP with new Britain barely visible on the handle and a MAC M2R 1/4 drive round head. fairly fine tooth for 1/4 t least 44 teeth. $2 all

An odd "dolly" it has a fairly sharp edge on it...and a Proto 1/2 to 3/4 drive adaptor. $5

Small SM hammer, SO flair crow ft, and a Plvmb swivel $1.50

2 Craftsman long C tapets, a square adaptor with a shaft set screwed in (Not sure of this was someone's modification or what...), pinch bar over 32" long, tongs, diamond SK DBE, and a cool old tomahawk style hatchet. $5

And the last stop, Vise Grip 5WR, 2 Bondhouse ball hex destined to get cut and installed into hex drive sockets in the long form, 2 Craftsman ignition wrenches, a 1/2" Conduit punch, and a rifleman's badge. - $3

Outlaw I just looked at the drawer pulls they are riveted in place. They look factory to me and the rivets are an exact match that hold the carrying handle on. Heres a pic of the drawer showing the rivets behind the pulls.

My Craigslist score today, the guy posted this box a month ago (no picture) for 100 bucks, two weeks ago (no picture) for 50, a week ago for 35 LOL(no picture) and today for 25! Went and looked at it on my way home and bought it, I asked if he had anything else he was sellin and he pointed to the delta sander for 10 bucks.
I got em both for 35

bluebolt, great deals for a very kind person. Looks like instant karma for helping that lady. Cherrish those black craftsman drivers. IMHO those are far better than the newer cman pro versions. I had to warrnty my small flat head black one and am not happy with the new red/black chrome shaft drivers.

Great stuff matt Those sound like the sales I go to, ebay pricng for a local garage sale. That ain't your average dial indicator BTW. The lathe and vise are just icing on the cake ($25 bucket of tools). YOU **** for sure.
