nice haul folks!!!

I went camping again and happened to past a garage sale sign going there.

I picked up 2 button short sleeve shirts for a $1 each.

Then i asked if she wanted to check another one and so we went!

I got to one and they had a set of BAJA light for $20, I said how about $10? Sold!

Also a "Dazed and Confused" DVD with no scratch on it for a buck!

So not a bad haul but no tools really.

ZK, all I could think is, "why is there one socked foot and one unsocked foot"

:lol_hitti Shoot I just now saw that. Short version is that I dropped a full oil filter on my right foot and quickly ripped off my shoe and sock. Good catch. :p

I see a crate full of rust, how much I ask. $10 he says, I say, throw in the bag full of rust and it's a deal.

Good save, was probably heading for the trash if not.

I found an old GE metal desk fan at city hall when dropping off some recycling.

Sweet, pics? I love those old fans. "Guards" wide enough to fit your entire hand through. :lol_hitti

Yes.

And a used one I shall never touch nor buy.

Ewwwww.

But that is just me.

Hardware slide out holder is da' bomb.

It went straight in the tool box, no food use for me.

I have a perfect use for that, not food related! It would be nice for brushing off brass shavings from my key machine!

I'm thinking Lathe brush myself, either way it will not be used for food, that's for sure. ;)

So my second stop was at an estate sale, and got the millermatic mig welder and a box of hand tools for 100.00 including the C02 tank, not sure what they sell for or what it is worth, but I can tell you it is heavy as can be, made my little truck squat and I used the bucket from my tractor to get it out of the back and it almost lifted the rear tires from the tractor off the ground...Rich...

Awesome score on the welder:thumbup:. Definitely U **** worthy. The 35's were the precursor to the Millermatic 200 which are (in my opinion) one of the best mig units for the garage small shop. They were also used in production shops, but with today multi-process units and inverters they are limited.

I believe the last time I looked into getting a 35 my buddy (fabricator for over 20 years)told me that transformers and drive motors were discontinued. I think they are still available for the Millermatic 200. You can also call Miller direct to see. Great score !!

That ratchet is a TRUTH ratchet. Look at the big T to identify the maker. No idea what the BS means but Alloy Artifacts suggests it was a sub-contractors mark. TRUTH made the R6A ratchet sometime prior to 1950 when they were acquired by OTC. That is a cool damn find!

thanks for the reply msgt i didnt even notice the t to me it just looked like a straight line running down the center and thats where it meets with the raised area on the ratchet thanks again for the info

Your guess would be better than mine sir . I thought and planed to use them as just long reach blow guns. They have a standard quick disconnect air line fitting on them. I have seen people use them for blowing out hard to reach areas (ex back of an engine bay). Or I could at least take the valves and quick disconnect off them for something else. If you want up close pics let me know. They have a few different markings on them. One end is ported like a safety blow gun would be.

BTW, what is that level you picked up graduated in? That was an awesome find for $1.

Here are a few pics. I think you are correct about it being re-purposed from something else. Any ideas what it originally was?

OK NOT a blow off gun despite the air coupling. Note the arrow; that is flow direction! so pressurizing in the opposite direction (Esp at air pressure levels) and it's probably leaking . (the pressure helps the valve to seat)

I think these are pickup tubes, for something...

And for my re-purpose, it would be for a tank that I can fill with water (Think old fashioned soda acid water fire extinguisher tank with a solid brass cap) drill and tap the brass cap with the pipe tread the drop tube side has, and add another hole for a tire stem. The hose on the tank gets cut somewhat short, and plugged (Barbed fitting and cap/plug) and you can fill that puppy, pressurize it, (A bicycle tire pump is sufficient) and add an elbow, riser tube and something to diffuse the water stream and you have 2-1/2 - 3 gallons of running water (Pressurized) for washing when you go camping. The point of the tube is to get to the bottom of the tank. (you can add a rubber hose extension if it doesn't got to the bottom)

I started with this setup more than 25 years ago, and having "running water" in camp makes washing hands and keeping clean and washing dishes/utensil SO easy it's sick.

This is the thing that EVERYONE notices and is astonished with in my rough camp sites, EVERY time I go. Rangers, other campers/hunters/fishermen, people I take camping, heck I even take the thing on picnics to parks and it attracts attention!

Another trick: Buy and take a "Dobie Pad" which is a sponge inside a plastic scrubber sheath. Soap that up and you don't need to have a tub of soapy water (less of the water waste; hauling water into camp is more than halved).

You can put the tank near the fire to heat the water so it's not ice cold. I've even painted the tank flat black so I get solar heat as long as I set it in the sun to get that heat.

With an extension and a fine spray shower head (I modified a low flow to be even more low flow...) you can have showers, and if the water is cold, if you boil about half the tank's worth (for a full tank) you get about a perfect temp for a hot shower! The full tank the size I built and you can easily have 2 people shower on one fill (Navy style ( get wet, soap down and rinse...) with water left over (Unless one has very long hair, THAT takes more water...)

I'm up to three, now, my original fire extinguisher tank, one that in a former life was intended (I got it NOS) as a 5 gallon soda syrup can (built in drop tube  and a SS tank that was a 2 gallon soap sprayer for janitorial work that I only had to add a riser and head. everything else was there! :pimpflash I like this one as it is short, so it packs where the others may not.

I'm all good at this point, but I'm always on the look out for an easier way to accomplish the trick, and whatever the source of these was would do that. I'm wondering if these were off an RV supply tank? :dunno:

Back to the level: No markings beyond the Starrett makers marks, not even a model No. but I slipped a .002 feeler gauge under one end and got a very noticeable movement of the bubble, so it's pretty sensitive! :rocker:

There was a rock island vise on CL that I wanted to seebut I was stuck taking brush to the dump. First trip to the dump I back up to pile and get out and there's a stainless garden fork laying on the ground. Nobody near me. Cool, I think and grab it and put it in the cab of my truck. I'm unloading and a truck comes up and backs in near me. Guy gets out and starts looking for something. I'm like "you missing something?" a couple times. the guy is pretty intense in his search but finally he gives me a little attention and says he is looking for his fork. Hold on I say, and get the fork and give it to him. He was pretty thankful and we both had a laugh about it. He didn't blame me at all for picking it up.

On the way out, I swing by the free stuff section. I spot this right under the kids junk bikes, hop out of the truck and grab it:

Obviously a Columbian 2 1/2" but when I googled it I didn't see anything too relevant. I think it says 702 1/2. Works fine, main flaw is the chipped part of the beam in the pic with my glove in it.

Anybody help me out with more info about this? Thanks!

I think it says Columbian 502 1/2. Here's a pic of a restored one I snatched off of a google image search.

IT has been good hunting around here all weekend. First stop was great and i was the first in the door. Lots of random tools including a 2 arm Plomb puller and plomb socket attached to a Proto LA ratchet. Its the first one ive seen with a smooth handle and no knurling on the grip.

The whole pile, including the vise was 20.00

I also found my first Plomb/Proto branded tool that day. Its the 1 1/4" flare nut wrench.

The next sale was a Saturday sale and it was great. I was 3rd in line but second in the garage that was full of Snap on, Starrett and a bit of Plomb. I didn't take pictures since i was busy but i did end up with:

3 1/2" drive 15" Snap on ratchets ( 1 used, 2 new in the box from 1961), 1 1/4" breaker bar, 2 set of Starrett punches and drifts, some of which were marked Starrett Great Britian?, Columbian vise, P & C ratchet, Plomb Ratchets and wrenches, and a few handfulls of assorted bits, blades and other goodies.

There was another member on there and he got some killer stuff as well. All around it was a great sale with even better prices.

Today was the monthly flea market where i was able to score quite a bit of Plomb. The pictures show what i grabbed today and some of the Plomb i bought yesterday.

Nice score with the vise. Those zip tie guns are stupid $ new.

I agree with you on the zip tie guns! I somehow ended up with 3 of them years ago after i stopped by a sale hours before i was leaving on vacation. Went on vacation and ended up forgetting about them and didnt "discover" them for another few months.

I will say i was shocked when i finally looked them up. As i remember, it was a Panduit and 2 Thomas Betts guns. The guy that had them worked for Ford on the assembly line.

Actually, the garage sale was a minute from my barber... saw he wasn't open yet, hit the sale, saw that, got my hair cut, picked up the wife to be, went back to the sale, and she laughed and said yes, absolutely ;)

Uh oh, you're not married yet and you're already asking permission for things? RUN! J/K, but you do need to break them in early and quick like 2 cycle lawn equipment...

Hit a sale on a Thursday, a nice surprise early in the week. Got there early on break and snagged these for around $10.

S-K box with the plastic tray and w/o rust! And a couple trays for future boxes.
Cman wrench carrier plus some combo wrenches. Puny Proto monkey wrench, too.
A multi purpose wire tracer.
A set of Vaco interchangeable tools.
Klein dykes and a couple of Indestro.
P&C ratchet in a box w/ some S-K sockets.
A few Cman sockets.
And a pair of long sharp-*** German made tweezers. Found them rooting around in a box of drafting supplies and drove a tip into the joint of my finger. It was fate, took them home.

More to post later from the weekend. Too late tonight.

Like always, you guys are cleaning house. I'm digging the vice Outlaw!

They will hold a lot. I have a very small space so I did put some things away as I was working. I need to make a plan so I can retrieve what I store. The cabinet are heavy, the drawers are heavy. I'm lucky I have a plywood floor in my shop and the cabinets can slide on it.

Friday and Saturday weren't the biggest haul in the world, but I feel pretty good about it. I found the Dunlap Approved box for $2.00 and the HEAVY gray steel lock box for $1. No clue what its for seeing that it has no mounting holes or anything. But I think it will work well for keeping small children from playing with things that go bang. And the Dunlap will be a good, safe, home for the choicest of old ratchets. :)

I paid $5 for the 1/2" =V= just to have them all. Not in great shape on the outside cosmetically, but slicker than snot with a little de-gunking and fresh grease.

At another sale a local guy had the sockets and ratchets. I was after the Craftsman H circle and wanted to see if I could get him to throw in the little ratchet for $10. When I didn't even get a chance to talk price, he said "Ten dollars and you can have the ratchets, the bar, and the sockets. you can have the box for an extra two if you want something to carry them in". I had glanced at the box and saw NAPA on it, so I figured cheap and flimsy and passed it by. But for $2? Sure! It turns out that the thing is built like a tank! And built by New Britain. And the little ratchet? Ends up being an old Snap-on "Ferret".

Might have scored a good small box, but I still pine for the old Craftsman matched top and bottom I passed on for $50 last weekend.

The round SS security lock was free at a sale. The guy there had a planter full of keys and told me if I wanted to look for it more than likely it was there. It cost me about 5 min and I gave him a buck for the key. Another freebie came from an estate, a Honeywell security panel that looks like it was installed and never used. Works, too. It looks like it can do all sorts of voodoo with it looking at their site, like use it as a clock.

Paid a buck for Battery and Antifreeze tester part out of curiosity. Never seen one of these before. Its only the optics, so if you recognize it as a part you need, let me know.

Not in the photos is a hacksaw I picked up in a moment of insanity for $40. It's embarrassing, paying that kind of money for an old hacksaw. I must have had some kind of tool delirium or temporary schizophrenia, maybe even occasional delusional hysteria. That's for a qualified doctor to decide. I might post it later. Or I might not. That will hinge on my diagnosis.

Well I need to start doing my updates. I have been busy the last few days putting my new to me tanker desk in my computer room so there is a pic of that. I did a basic cleanup on it, paint is fairly decent on it. It's a Mode Maker from the General Fireproofing Co Youngston Ohio and does have the asbestos mats on the side walls. I will not disturb them LOL! I like it so far, much better than the old oversized "L" desk that did not fit the room well.

On Thursday a craigslist ad popped up for a moving sale with tools, tool boxes and engine parts about 40 miles away. It looked interesting so I headed over. Guy's father was sick and he was moving to Florida to care for him and closing up his boat shop. I spent $270 total picking up an old Craftsman grey with red drawers bottom with no tools, an unknown older (Craftsman?) home owners box combo that is still way better than the new junk that had a lot of tools, a 50' roll of quality trailer 7 wire cord and a box of chemicals.
There were some old mililitary stuff in the big tool box, Vaco allen wrench set, Stevens Walden tool roll for nutdrivers, Proto wrench roll that I should have most of the wrenches for and other odds and ends. Other stuff included Herbrand and Vlchek wrenchs, most of a Bonney socket set, a Snap On ratchet and more. The little S-K box had Craftsman, Dayton, Mac, Snap On angle and Stanley USA wrenches. The lube products are in the two blue crates on top of the Craftsman box, the Kennedy parts cabinet is from another sale. And now I have to post up Fridays finds sepratley!

So Friday morning I headed out for the garage and estate sales.

The first sale was crazy to get to because of a closed bridge. I picked up $10 in tools, brass hammer, Snap-On salus wrench, Wiss shears and a USA made internal spring compressor that I actually need.

The next good sale was an estate sale and I get there at opening time:thumbup: I paid $118 for the small Columbian anvil, Kennedy parts cabinet with hardware, X-Acto knives, Craftsman router bits, hacksaw and 1/2 ratchet, Proto flat tip screwdriver, Stanley angle finder, gun (and tool) cleaning cloth and the patio storage bench. On the way home I saw an ad for the Craftsman Router with the original box and picked that up for $25.
