Changed the oil, polished the wheels, dressed the tires. I like the flat rubber look of tires, is just so correct. I see the shinny wet looking things and it reminds me of a bad model car builder, that did not know how to detail a car. Took about an hour to do the wheels, hand rubbed.

I agree with you on the tires. I like the "stock" non-glossy look.

well, one week ago my race engine was still in the boring bar, its been a busy week with a many late nights, but I got it fired up yesterday! and all is right with the world! i'm headed up to New England Dragway next week to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

I tried sharpening the blades on a 50 year old, manual push mower that I recently bought for 10 bucks. I did it per internet wisdom by applying grinding compound to the blades and turning them backwards.

It didn't cut any better so I pulled out the stationary blade for inspection. It appears that a previous owner tried sharpening it with a side-grinder and the cutting edge no longer meets that cutting edge of the rotary blade. I believe the mower is just a charming conversation piece now, or perhaps fodder for the steel foundry.

Then I turned my attention to finding the parasitic battery drain that is killing my Xterra's battery every few days. Still working on that.

Can the stationary blade (bedknives) be replaced or duplicated? Ask some golf grounds keepers or lawn care guys (the ones with trailers that mow yards for rich people).

FINALLY, built a set of "mud room" closets to hang jackets and shoes...

After years of using a wire shelf for our shoes and a set of pegs for the kids jackets,

I finally got off my duff and built this:

Just need to put one more shelf up top, install hooks and hangars and do the edging.

Ed, I'm going to go out on a limb here and tell you there most likely isn't a single person on this board who thinks you're lazy. If the bar was set any higher, none of us could hope to reach it.

Now come over and build me some shelves in my basement dang it! (Almost a year since Billy's dad passed away and left us with his uhhhhhhhhhhhhh 'stuff' ... and most of it is right where it was last year when we cleaned the house out.)

I don't think it would be worth it. I bought this mower because I thought it would be an interesting Saturday afternoon project to sharpen the blades, and to use on my small lawn. But the fixed blade seems to be riveted to a blade carrier and so would be difficult to remove and replace, I think.

Also the hack who tried to sharpen it cut it in such a way that quite a bit of material would have to be removed to get the cutting edges to mate again. It's hard to explain without visual aids...but I think it's time for this mower to be retired. It's old enough and has the character that it wouldn't look bad as an ornament hanging in the rafters of some theme restaurant. Anybody know a restaurant chain that has lawn/yard care as their theme?

Not a lot today sadly, I spent most of the day at our local swap meet, then home and into the garden as it is early spring here now and we are having some cracker days weather wise 24 degrees c.

What dressing did you use on the tires. I agree, they look better than the ones you can see your reflection in.

I like the 10 spoke wheels on front. I always wished they made 10 spokes for the rears though that were deep dish. I'm the sort of person that likes things to match. Don't get me wrong though, you are period correct looking and that's what counts.

I converted my 2003 Yamaha Roadstar 1600 to run without the fuel pump. One less thing to leave ya stranded on the side of the road...

Hot weather has taken a toll on motorcycle tires this summer. The Glide's rear tire was getting close to being smooth, so I started the shop air conditioner, set the fans, and rolled the bike onto the lift. The garage is an oversized two car--roughly 22x30 and is home to two cars and two motorcycles. The work area does duty for all types of projects, but as you can tell, it is mostly a motorcycle shop.

Finished my Thor Speed Grinder project... Painted the body Safety Red and Gloss Black for the end covers and tool rests. I then put on a new power cord and assembled with Black Oxide Socket Head screws.

Replaced the ECU wiring harness in my car, for apparently no reason, as the K-Pro daughterboard still stops communicating with the Honda motherboard at random. I've been hunting the ghost in the machine for the last 4-months.

Thanks Mike--the shop has gotten more crowded over the years, mostly from storage of items that have no place else to go: such as left over lumber from wood build projects, motorcycle parts too valuable to scrap--and I never seem to make it to the swap meets, and materials for "to do" projects. Currently two gallons of interior paint and brushes are on my main bench, waiting for me to get to them. Motorcycles fun, painting the hall work!

Not particularly..it's a mod that a lot of people do just for the additional piece of mind. Even in Florida there are some long stretches of road with no cell phone reception...

I understand. I have to really work to keep my "shop" a working shop and not a storage area. Luckily my wife and son understand and help in that respect. We use the garage on the house as our storage area for things like mine and the wife's daily drivers, lawn/garden equipment, bicycles and Jeep tops. I have an area downstairs, under our stairs actually, where I keep the home improvement tools (miter saw, skillsaw, paint brushes, etc.) as well as home paint and paint supplies.

Changing out the gear oil out of the diffs on my wife's 4 Runner when I knocked over a gallon bottle of it on my bench and didn't realize it for some time later. The garage has a nice sweet smell to it now!

Made some simple sawhorses for some upcoming projects. I had a set, but they were cheaply made. These were, too, since I had scrap laying around, but at least they are sturdy and should last me for a good long while. Ignore the mess, we've been working on a ton of stuff and I haven't been able to get things cleaned up yet.

Oh **** - that would have killed me too! So I use 1/2" Melamine sheets. This is particle board with melamine on either side. Cuts easy and a 40tooth carbide blade gives you a clean edge that you can finish with edge tape, wood or plastic mouldings, or a bit of paint.


Today I took my scrap metal to the recycler. 580 pounds = $20.80....
