but it was priced at $200!
I was too polite to ask him where he came up with that number and simply bought some giant files for $1 each and an old Craftsman torque wrench for $5.

Just looked a bit more closely at my Craftsman scratch awl, it has a circle F manufacturer mark. Does anyone have info on this? Alloy Artifacts just says unknown.

Ok so heres what was in all the boxes

Pics? there are a lot of different camp heaters out there...
There sure are, I'd never seen one of these before but it looks like Coleman made a bunch of them. Evidently mine is a model 511a:

(hope the above image shows up, I'm a noob to this)
I followed the instructions on the fuel tank and managed to get it going without blowing myself up. It puts out a decent amount of heat but it takes a looong time to get going (30-40 minutes). It looks like the catalyst matting is pretty grungy but I'm reluctant to take it apart to try and clean it, this thing was made in the 60's so who knows what sort of nasty stuff they made the catalyst out of.
Edit: D'oh, no picture, I'll have to play with it some more later...
Outlaw, You know that tool box that you and someone else had that looked homemade but ya'lls look identical? Well I think i found their bigger brothers cause there was one there with a lift out tray in it but no marking or anything. I almost got it but I just couldn't bring myself to bring home another carry box.

DON"T clean the catalytic mat, you will destroy it. So this one is white gas fueled? I'm usually seeing the Prop powered ones. is this the one wit ha dome shaped element, about a foot or so across pointing straight up?
These items were sitting in one vendor's booth. When I asked for prices on them, the seller said they were his buddy's, who was out wandering around.I hung around for a few minutes, then asked him to set the stuff aside until the real owner came by. He agreed. I bet I walked by 5 or 6 more times before the right guy was there. Fortunately, his prices were very good!

A complete SK Wayne 3/8" set. There are a couple substitutions, but filling the holes with my spares shouldn't be a problem.

An SK Wayne combo wrench set in the roll. Aside from the painted-on owner's initials and the substituted 11/16", a lot of these look barely used.![]()
. Just going to have to keep at it.Only worthwhile buys were a good working Tek 475A/DM44 combo and a Heath DC power supply for $25:
...and came across another train track anvil for $12:
#3438 WOutlaw: that "free" toolbox looks like the one you had shipped across the country a few months ago. very nice and one of my favorite Craftsman logos.
All: i saw an ad on Craigs for a big old compressor and since i now own that $10 sandblaster i'm on the hunt for one. it's a Binks Lo Boy and it runs but is probably too small at 1.5 HP to run my sandblaster, but for $40 with a few hoses and an impact gun probably an ok deal so bought it and dragged it home.
the orange compressor has my attention because only $300 and 5 HP. owner says rebuilt and if one of you guys said that i would buy it, but rebuilt to some people means a paint job. any tips on what i should check out or look for on a big compressor? I've read quite a bit and thought i'd turn to the experts.
Yes, it runs on white gas, I have an older propane Coleman catalytic heater but I'd never seen one that burns white gas like this. It has a tank that looks like a big version of a lantern tank. On top of that is a dome-shaped element that points straight up and there is a screen that snaps down over it to keep you from touching the element. When I first got it I was stumped because I expected to find a pump to pressurize the fuel but it evidently has a wick that pulls fuel from the well up into the catalyst. It seems to work well but takes forever to get going.
Thanks for the tip on the element Outlaw, I'll leave it alone, information on the 'net is conflicting (go figure) but a lot of people think it's asbestos. Mine is dated 1966 so it wouldn't surprise me.
I've started to get into the white gas stuff this summer ever since I picked up a free stove at a sale in June. I cleaned it up and used it on a camping trip on the July 4th weekend. It worked great but I found that two burners weren't enough to keep up with the appetite of 3 boys under the age of 5 so I've been on the lookout for a second stove. The fuel is easier to transport and store than propane is but I think it's more of a nostalgia thing for me.

SNIP The Box I got yesterday is 50's, the blue one I had shipped is early 40's.
