Why did you only receive a partial refund on the floor? I'd be wanting a full refund if the floor is defective.

Haven't actually received the partial yet. He sent me a legal document to sign in order to get the refund. It basically states that I have to agree that I will no longer hold him responsible for the condition of the floor and that I will not post any "defamation" of him on social media, online, etc... including his "trade"...which I assume means I'm being asked to not even comment on the job in general. I have refrained from mentioned the installer or the vendor at all because I am a grown-a$$ man and am fair. Yet the mere fact that he is asking me to sign this to partially refund me for a job that clearly he wouldn't dare put photos of on his website (you should see some of the slick looking jobs in his portfolio...makes you wonder why mine looks like ****) is frankly offensive and condescending. Maybe it's because I'm not a much older, much wealthier client. Did I mention the installer brought over a potential client to see our floor while it was being finished without asking us? (while we were at home too). She even said "Oh, well I'm very glad I came and saw this first". Talk about making me feel better...

My wife is massively pissed now that we've received this legal document to sign to "get our partial refund"...

Talk to a lawyer of your own before signing that document. Also you have a TSX, S2K, NSX, and a M5? Wow if so!

Did your house not have a garage at all when you bought it? I ask because that looks like an upscale neighborhood that wouldn't have a home without a garage.

My buddy is a paralegal and going back to law school and he took a look at it and advised us not to sign it.

The house was built with the 3 car garage. Floor was bare concrete, brand new when we moved in.

Yes, we have an 05 TL 6spd manual (wife's car), 04 S2K, 98 NSX Turbo, and 01 M5. The S2K is going away. The M5 is its replacement but I didn't want to daily drive the NSX while I was looking for the M5, so I went ahead and found it before listing the S2K for sale.

Sorry to hear about the floor. I would calla lawyer for sure. I would NOT sign that BS doc for sure. You hired him for a durable garage floor finish, he provided a shiny coating that is maybe suitable for a wall. I think you should be able to get all your money back, maybe even get him to pay someone else to grind it off.

98 NSX TURBO? I thought they were a high compression V6... Are you running low boost or did you drop the compression?

Nice collection of cars for sure. I love the mural idea too.

Thanks!

Yes, the NSX still has the same high compression V6. Boost is around 9psi. All stock motor. The 97+ had a factory multi-layer metal head gasket. I also run water/methanol injection for added safety. It's pretty much at the safe limit for the stock motor. Makes 460whp.

A legal document for a partial refund???? That's a bunch of bull.

I could understand that approach if you were getting a full refund but he's really getting the better part of the deal in this case.

I would send him a legal document requesting full refund.

Is there a reason you did not use 100% solids epoxy?

I don't think I had researched that option. I had remembered hearing "good things" about polyaspartic and so when the installer encouraged/agreed with me not to go with the staining due to the existing look of the concrete he suggested polyaspartic coating and I immediately "felt comfortable" with the idea. Of course now I wish I had come back to the drawing board instead of ending up with the finish that I have now...

Not sure how i completely missed your thread. Awesome! Love your NSX, looks especially nice sitting on some CCW's.... Can't wait until you convince your wife to go for Race Deck!

Thanks for the compliments on the NSX and I love CCWs. I have had the classics on several cars and will continue to buy them into the future. I haven't really updated it since the poly aspartic floor issue. I was very disappointed and with the high expense I just decided to stop thinking about my garage dreams for a while.

Fortunately you have good timing as far as the thread post! I just ordered a 12 piece NewAge metal cabinet set from Costco (it was $500 off) and I grabbed 2 extra matching tall cabs from Kmart of all places at a steal. So for less than $1900 all in I have a 14 piece cabinet set. Since the 12 piece comes with 2 worktops I think I can take my 2 extra tall cabs and basically make two complete arrays (each with bookended tall cabs sandwiching 2 overheads and 2 under the worktop). One thing I'm not too hot on is the grey doors. I may plastidip them satin black to see if they look better as all black.

37412__12pc_grey_24ga.jpg

As for the RaceDeck...I just ordered samples of black diamond and black tuff shield from Shauna. My wife is still pretty ticked about the botched polyaspartoc so she basically keeps saying I need to get my money back from the installer or I'm not getting the RaceDeck. I don't think that is going to happen at this point so most likely I'll just have to order the RaceDeck when funds free up and take a blasting for it :)

I got some samples of the black diamond and black tuffshield RaceDeck from Shauna to compare with the beige tuffshield and charcoal diamond samples I already had. I think I'm still leaning towards the charcoal diamond. I ran my fingernail lightly across the tuff shield tiles and the beige immediately scuffed but the black tuff shield did not. The black is probably going to show too much dirt but I'd say it is down to the charcoal diamond vs black diamond. I like solid colors.

I've also got paint samples. I'm thinking with the charcoal RaceDeck I would do either a medium grey on the walls or a medium earthy tan color. If I did beige tiles I would do a medium grey or a charcoal paint on the walls. If I did black tiles I would do charcoal or medium earthy tan color on the walls.

I got the two extra NewAge locker cabinets in today but still haven't received a call to schedule delivery of the 12 piece set. These two are the "RTA" ready to assemble version for a fraction of the price but as far as I could tell in the ad the looked the same. Hope so...

I'm leaning towards just a single color. Definitely not a checkerboard pattern but I might consider 2 colors depending on the pattern. My wife said she thought the black would look the coolest under our cars but agreed they would show dirt very easily.

I noticed the tiles scuff very easily with just lightly running my fingernail across them... That has me a little concerned.

I put together one of the cabinets last night. Thank god the 12 piece set comes assembled (welded) already. I would not want to assemble 14 of these things.

Add another person drooling over the NSX. Always loved those cars.
Boost and CCW's. Can't go wrong with those!:3gears:
Do you have a build thread anywhere on the car?

Sorry to hear about the floor coating. I would be just as disappointed.

You do many ATL get togethers? I need to get down there for another C&C. Haven't been to one in a couple of years now.

Looks like you have decent lighting going on. Can't wait to see it with the rest of the cabinets!

caffeine and octane (c&c) has gotten HUGE. I only found out about them a year ago, but even since I started going they got bigger. Almost too crowded to walk around, most months. Talk about seeing some cool cars though.

I'm just here to say I love the M5!! lol
NSX is nice and all, but I'm all about the other..

Garage is coming along nicely. ***** about the floor. I think half the battle with the painted floors is the prepwork before hand. The race deck should look sweet when done.

Get that paint knocked out now!! Something that will tie in the floors and cabinets.

It is awesome. I researched very heavily before I bought it and had learned I needed a certain sustained CFM to run certain tools and a lot of the cheaper compressor brands lacked the needed SCFM (I think that is what its called). I use mine primarily for knocking off lugnuts and other large automotive fasteners such as on the suspension. I think it is a little louder than when I first bought it. I don't have anything to compare it to but it isn't quiet yet it isn't so loud as to cause problems located in the garage where I'm working.

It helped that I had a $200 gift card at the time as a wedding gift...or else I may not have been looking to spend as much as I did on a DeWalt.

She is a beauty isn't she? :bounce:

I don't have a build thread. Tons of pictures on my computer just never started doing build threads until a few cars later.

I used to go to the occasional Varsity meet and Caffeine and Octane but I have been strapped for time lately and a lot of my car buddies no longer participate in the hobby. Also Caffeine and Octane has slowly drifted further and further away from me as they have changed locations over the years.

As for lighting, I have 3 fluorescent light fixtures that were installed by the builder. Definitely not bad but I may work on some additional fixtures closer to the inside wall because when hoods go up on the cars the light is blocked to the engine bay as it currently is.

I haven't been to one in a while. I used to go when it was over at the Avenue in east Cobb but it has slowly moved further away and I have slowly moved further away as well to the point where I think I'm probably a solid 1hr each way. Not to mention I had a bad habit of getting there midway through and most people were already leaving. Darn early birds...

I wish I could be proud of my garage but it is nowhere near the vision I have for it and the floor situation has been a major bummer.

I'm just here to say I love the M5!! lol

Thanks! The M5 sadly has already moved on. It spun a rod bearing and developed a light knock and just littered the engine with copper flakes so I ended up selling it at a loss to a talented enthusiast who could rebuild it himself. Just bad luck I guess. Pretty bummed on that. Not just the loss of money but I really loved that car and didn't get enough time with it. Also the TL is gone as well as the S2000.

However...never fear...I have two new surprises that have just reached the port stateside (full euro delivery story here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1044056):

IMG_2909_zpscd3919b9.jpg

The white one is my wife's. It's what we sold her 05 TL for. The blue one is mine. These have motivated me to get back into the garage to try and get it ready...except they have drained my garage funding!

I'm working on paint asap. Hopefully before we take re-delivery of the M3s. I've got a ton of swatches narrowed down to 5 grey and 5 tans. Got the USMC ball this weekend so I can't do it this week but I may start taping it up Sunday and buy the paint and start next week.

TWO M3s?!?! Wow! Why did you go with two of the same instead of one M3 and one M4 (or 1 M3 and something completely different)?

I've had that question a lot. Honestly, I didn't care for the M4. I think the M3 looks better. My wife wanted a fast, manual, sedan with "luxury" and certain features and the M3 was a good fit and I know she'll never get tired of it. For me, the more we looked at the M3 for her the more I felt it was like a combination of my turbo NSX and my ill-fated M5. I just felt like I had to have it. There wasn't much else I wanted that I could afford in that price range (our M3s have almost no options) except maybe the Stingray but I'm not a huge fan of it aside from its performance. The ATSV would have been a good option but it wasn't announced at the time we ordered. I lust after the 911 GT3 but it is far too expensive for me.

It is an amazing experience and the 2nd time I've done it. I don't get why most BMW buyers don't do it. The price is cheaper to the point where it usually pays for the trip. So if you are going to buy one...might as well get the experience. I guess most people are just too stuck on instant gratification.

Where were you stationed? That's pretty cool and yes blasting down the autobahn is amazing. Though I'm a little annoyed that the derestricted speed zones seem so rare now. We would get a quick derestricted zone sandwiched by a few 120/130km zones dropping to 80km and a BUNCH of construction zones with no active construction (I swear I didn't see a single construction zone actively being worked on the entire time).

I was stationed twice in the city of Schweinfurt. Loved the area, and miss my time I spent in Germany. Awesome oppurtunity to travel and see everything in Europe mostly within a day or two drive. Made for some great weekend trips all over.

What do you mean by this? I figure it would be the same price or more.

I'd love to do it once, but I've yet to buy a new one. I have an 11 335is, and the wife has a 14 X3 with M package, and pages, it's pretty nice.

That is awesome! I really enjoy Germany. Been there on 3 occasions...the longest for a month but I can only imagine living there.

BMW European Delivery has a different price structure. There is an ED MSRP and ED Invoice which are both about 7% below their corresponding US market figures. For example, the ED MSRP on the 2015 M3 is like $57k and some change. Compared to the regular US MSRP which is $62k ish. The savings basically justify the trip depending how grand you make it.

The price structure is less supposedly because of the loyalty the program builds with customers. They believe customers will not want to buy a car any other way after they do it. Originally I thought it was a lower price because of some taxation and tariff loopholes but I later learned that wasn't the case (again...supposedly...).

Interesting, I figured it'd be more as you'd have to pay for it to ship to the states etc...?

Maybe I need to buy a new one and do it!

The shipping is just your normal destination fee that you have to pay anyways. In other words...you don't pay any extra for shipping. Also, BMW provides you with a full tank of gas upon delivery, several weeks of Allianz insurance to cover you driving, and tourist european plates/registration. There is no catch. You pay less for the car, get the special delivery but its on you for your plane tickets and expenses.

When you drop the car off at the end of your trip, BMW sends it to the US on the same ships that they send new US market cars on and yours goes through customs and vehicle prep just like any other new car...only you've already put miles on yours.

I would do something about the water heater sitting on the garage floor before worrying about making things pretty or there might become something real ugly, where does the combustion air come from for the water heater & what happens with a small gasoline leak onto the floor from one of the cars??

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to water heaters unfortunately. We had a home inspection before purchase by a guy we really trust and he made no mentions of any issues. There is a parking pole right in front of it bolted to the floor.

Our old house had the water heater up on a pedestal and walled in on three sides...I just assumed this was some different getup.

pretty sure that water heater has a burner that is not sealed combustion it can ignite fumes hanging at floor level, if I'm right you have a lot of reason to not trust the home inspector

I'm trying to narrow down the paint color today. I started with about 80 swatches of greys and "earthy" tans. My hope is to start painting today. Trying to avoid any grey with blue in them...don't want to end up with the same result as the dolphin grey floor...

Narrowed it down to three colors and to be safe I got samples of each. It turns out my wife is more on board with the black racedeck (thus making the expense easier when the time comes) so that's the color floor I'm assuming here.

The color I'm going with is the middle one. It's called Grey Tweed by Glidden. It's like a grey with a hint of a brown to it. The picture makes it look like grey blue but it is not like that in person. Fairly inexpensive. I think $23/gal and I got two.

I'll definitely need to paint the cabinet doors of the NewAge cabinets something else once this color is on the wall and the floors are black racedeck.
