I bought a NIB Snap On FRLF80 on eBay last week. It was a boxed deal with a ratchet handle flashlight. I was looking it over, and noticed that it does not say USA anywhere on the ratchet.

A lot of the older dual 80s did not have the US stamp. They early ones did, and the most recent do again....there was a gap of some years with no US. What's the date code?

....though I know it's useless, let me BEG..... PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET THIS THREAD NOT TURN INTO YET ANOTHER SPACE WASTING DEBATE ABOUT THE TRUE COO OF THE RATCHETS.

Nope, for all I know (as you read into it too) the OP may be asking if it is a legit or counterfeit ratchet. My post at least contained something useful for the OP....

Snap On did that for a few years (no USA stamp). No worries on whether it is counterfeit or not.

Before the conspiracy theorists get here with their zero proof statements....

Your ratchet is still made in the USA. The COO of the ratchet was still listed and advertised as USA for the entire time the stamp was removed. The COO of the rebuild kits (which many people claim where either made in Spain or Taiwan, and once again have no way to prove that claim) was also listed as USA.

So the entire thing was made from domestic steel in a domestic factory making it made in the USA.

I'm not a Snap On leg humper/fanboy, and would love to tear down snap on if they actually started selling imported ratchets at the prices they are asking right now. I'd love to. But the facts remain, the Dual 80 ratchets always were and still are made in the USA.

Around late 2007/2008 Snap-On stopped stamping USA on the ratchet heads.

Last year they began stamping USA on ratchets, but on the handle ring where the part number also exists.

If USA is not stamped on the handle it is NOS.
Check the date/year stamp on the handle ring
for year of mfg..
Done.

I seem to think that somewhere in a press release the president of snap-on explained in more detail what happened, or I was reading a statement or maybe someone on the GJ had explained it so that we could read more about it in a post from long ago; but my memory tends to forget some things and remember other things from my past.

Oh Kay...is there a question or point to be made here?

Yes, just a comment that the USA was missing. Not concerned about authenticity or COO. I know that many Snap On tools are not always stamped with a date code either.

Same boat here, I kinda remember something about the USA stamp offending people in other countries or some other PC **** so it was halted. As stated though, don't completely remember and gaurantee less than nothing.

I always tell my two boys when they act up "Someday you will explain it all to me" and they settle down for a time. Maybe someday we will learn more facts...

Two pictures one is a SLF 936 with the USA stamp; and the other is a SLF 80 without the USA Stamp.

I have 15 Dual 80 ratchets and I couldn't tell you how many, if any, are stamped USA. I simply don't care.

Not quite.

I know that many Snap On tools are not always stamped with a date code either.

Cope is dead on. I get the vibe that some/many folks here have a lot better luck than I do with date codes. My success rate is around 50/50, to the point that I consider it a bonus to find a tool with one. My one dual80, an FHD80 w/ red handle, has no date code.

 You took the high road, I apologize, I was feeling a bit snarky this morning.
As I tried to point out in post #2 it's always a good idea to post a question or comment clearly rather than just tossing a fact into the road and see who runs over it :D

This is odd, I know they move around on ratchets but I have a hard time finding any without date codes.

All my ratchets have the DC, but many sockets and wenches do not.

That's because all Snap On tools are now made in a factory, in the middle of a leper colony, in India. Slave wage Indian peasants work 30 hour days in dark rooms until their fingers fall off(literally), at which time they are taken out behind their shipping container sleeping quarters and shot. I know, because I was once a Snap On man, and was sent there for training.

I;ve never had a problem with a date code on a tool being there.

If you are buying military , then different rules apply.

You can refute the truth or make up you own conspiracy theories, but the dat code is alive and well.

I see it weekly.

No reason for it NOT to be there. Well, unles, you buy Snap-On tools made in Asia...Muhahahahahaha,

Newbs with ******** responses.
I STILL love it on the GJ.

Just got back from the garage. Plenty of Snap-On there with DC. Among those without: An entire RXM metric flare set. An entire TWM metric 1/2" 6 pt socket set. A 1/2" breaker bar SN18A. Every single one of my sliding t-handles, in 4 drive sizes.
Have a nice afternoon.

WOW. That many with no date codes.

Seems odd to me.
Probably worthy of a call to customer service.

Date codes ensure recalls or tool failures are tracked as well as well as ownership if warrantied and in the system.

Ill ask my big route driver and email my regional rep.
Outside of MIL tools and older war years, i find it far from the norm and not the standard.

Good luck. :D

Nah, not concerned at all. Most of my stuff is second hand, and I've warrantied exactly ONE tool in my life, a CM ratchet. The military thing is in fact a possibility as I'm 50 miles from an AFB.

To keep on the original topic, my Dual 80 that has no DC also has no USA stamp.

I just noticed my SLF80A doesn't have USA either. Now I know the rest of the story.

I called to check on a RMA back order and asked the lady about the no COO mark. She said those were made in Snap On's New Mexico plant, just across the road from Area 51. ;)

I remember this being a huge issue a few years ago on Garage Journal. If I remember correctly someone verified with Snap On that the ratchets were still made in the USA even though they weren't stamped. I can't recall if my dual 80's are stamped or not, if they are then it's on the handle

Is that why USA or a date code isn't stamped on these when they are rebadged?

The "USA" was taken off years ago because it's a global market. Ratchets are and always have been... Made in the USA. Then shipped to the world markets.

Announced 18 months ago that the "USA" will be put back on the ratchets to great applause.

I hope this puts your minds at ease.
