Shop Vac, or Garage Vac, or Car Vac?

85% of the time - my Garage Vac is used for vacuuming out the cars. 10% of the time I use it to clean under cabinets or work-benches. 5% of the time I use it to **** up some saw dust when I have to cut some wood for some reason.

Using a vacuum on the cars - I tend to pull the vac around by the hose as I work… With the taller vac’s that have small castors - that always resulted in them tipping over. They didn’t roll to well on the rougher driveways surface either. They are all just top heavy.

The solution was the RIDGID 4-gal. Wet/Dry Vacuum. WD4070
It sits low and has large rear wheels that make it very stable. This one will follow you without tipping over.

It is relatively small, stores easily out of the way - and doesn’t tip over as I drag it around by its "Tug-A-Long" hose. I got the optional noise muffler and that makes it just that much better. I also bought the optional smaller diameter hose for vacuuming the cars. {more flexible and easy to use - although I don’t see that optional kit on the Web Site}.

The Vacuum:

Accessories/Kits/Hoses etc.

I just love this vac...

How would this one compare to the one above? I had seen this one on one of the threads a few months ago http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006NXIH26/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1YHHY0VSLGRPH&coliid=I12KH5KIZAJLWZ&psc=1

There always on Craigslist out here, and rarely for more than $40. It's just a Vacuum after all.

I have the Craftsman version of the Rigid with the stainless tank. Big wheels roll nice, plenty of juice, and I do like the storage bag (I thought I would hate it). It's actually light for the size and the versatility seems to work for me. I have had it two years and I would give it 4.5 stars.

I am in the market for a garage vacuum but I'm torn bt the Vacumaid GV30 Pro and the Prolux Garage Vac

The Prolux has lower suction power but can do wet/dry

The Vacumiad has brand name vacuum motor and have the highest suction power in its class but can not do wet

The Bissel 18P03 is pretty much identical to the Prolux for roughly 1/2 the money. I wish I had known about it before I bought the Craftsman wall mounted garage vac.

One is wall mounted and fixed in place - the other is portable. My garage is a bit oversized for a 4 car garage. A vacuum fixed in place might work well for me if I could mount it in the center of the garage. But then I'd still need 25 foot of hose just to use it everywhere in the garage. The longer the hose the more powerful a vacuum you need.

I like the portability of the Rigid - but then I guess it all depends on how you use or what you use a vacuum for.

I have this vacuum and swear by it....

http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-12-gal-5-PHP-Wet-Dry-Vacuum-WD1270/202554972

We bought it 3 years ago when we purchased our house. I used it daily for remodeling. Now it sits under my workbench, adjacent to my drill press, to make clean up easy. I leave it plugged in, and just grab the hose and push the power switch.

It's small enough to carry when full of stuff, but not too small that I need to empty it a lot.

I have an older version of this vacuum (~10 years old) and it has worked great!!
