pet peeves... ok lets start the list...
1. misplacing a tool, if you took a picture of my tool bag at work today and a year from now, you'll see everything in the same exact place, and if something is different, its either gone, or replaced with a new tool that has its spot.... everything in its place.
2. cleanliness, i have done some seriously dirty work, look like a coal miner when you're done work, but i hate my tools being dirty when i'm done. while i'm working is no problem, i'm fine with that. but when i'm done i want them clean, even my power tools get a wipe down, everything goes back clean and neat.... i absolutely cannot stand reaching for something and getting a handful of grease when i haven't torn anything apart and i don't know how some people do that.
3. it irritates me when people grab a tool without asking, especially right in front of me. people think you are a loaner cart just walking around. i've had production guys grab my fuel drill off my cart and attempt to walk off with it only to turn around and ask "can i use this for a second i just need to drive a few screws" and the answer is always a big resounding "No, not since you grabbed it before asking, even my kids know better".
4. when people see that you have something made in taiwan and instantly think that its china... no, it's taiwan, and taiwan makes good tools also, so does germany, and japan, and italy.... the US is not the only country that makes good tools, don't assume i own junk because you have no sense
5. unorganized box. my box has to be organized, wrenches all together (including adjustable), pliers all together, etc etc. box needs to be clean also, hate having a torn up dirty looking box. how on earth do you get a dirty box? the only thing tools touch is the top and inside the drawers, the rest should be immaculate 24/7 because nothing touches those other parts. it completely eludes me how somehow has worn the paint off the middle left corner of the box with what looks like 10,000 scratches. and now it has a rust spot.
6. incomplete sets. i can't stand having incomplete sets, i've spent 75 on two sockets that got left at a previous job by accident, just to have them in the set. and i knew i wasn't going to need them for another few years most likely... but it is now a complete set again.
7. losing a tool... i've spent 2 hours looking for a tool before, granted i was being paid to look for it. but i would rather spend 2 hours looking for it than put it in the order book to get a replacement, i liked that one. and number 7 goes with number 3 as well, i've had people grab a tool from my cart and not tell me, then when i came back and reached for it it wasn't in it's spot, so i proceed to go back to every job i've done in the last 2 days that i used that tool looking for it only to find it on someones bench a day later and they "have been meaning to get that back to me".
there is probably more, but i'll just leave this here for now.
