I like the panels and I do understand about being light and fragile. Sorta hard to install without damage. They are going to look nice when your done though.
Good work!

Best Regards

Herb,
Thanks for stopping in.
Clear packaging tape is my friend when I damage one. I've improved my technique since I started the installation, but I still split one occasionally when attaching the lath board.
I have noticed that it seems brighter in the garage with the baffles up.

I see another car in the garage. Did the boss switch places with your Ford?

To bad those baffles take so much work for one section

captain14,
You know the one "if momma's not happy, no-one is happy"?

Actually I was off work for several weeks when the Sport Trac in the garage picture was taken. (We parked & didn't drive the Trac, & drove my wife's Soul during this time. The gas milage difference is huge).
After I returned to work, she got the garage for the rest of the winter.
Speaking of winter, it appears that it is finally over......maybe?

I worked on adding an outdoor electrical receptacle to the front of the garage today.
I used a recessed split mounting block for vinyl siding from Menards, the receptacle itself along with the in-use cover from Lowes.
I'm all done on the outside, I will wire it up to the interior GFCI receptacle tomorrow.

Receptacle looks great. You made a real neat installation, which is hard to do in vinyl siding. You will find that Recp very handy. I have these on all sides of my garage and use them often.

Well winter may be over on the calender but I woke up to an inch of snow yesterday morning and I am south of you near Washington Dc.

The electrical box looks good and it will come in handy whenever you work outside the garage.

I love this garage. It's the perfect size to be called a "1 car garage" compared to the "one car tight parking spot" you get in most houses in my area.

Herb,
Thanks for the compliment. I know the outlet will be used often, it will be handy.

captain14,
Ya, we got our winter back yesterday...... 4 or 5 inches of snow......
Thanks for the compliment.

chrisml,
Thanks for looking in, and the compliment.
I do like the size for a 1 car.
I wish now (don't we all) that I had it built bigger..... But i do have a small back yard.

wow nice vega! loving the updates!

When you say you wish you had a larger garage, and I'm sure we all do, what exactly is the issue? I seem to be in your boat, I have a small yard and don't want to ruin it with a overly large garage. We still want space and a yard back there.

I have been sizing out the exact setup for our yard. Honestly I may go higher though to get a 4 post lift in there so i can lift the miata in winter and keep the SS on the pad... That way i could run storage/ workbench on the left side. I definitely need to get 2 cars in there but I have to go with a lift to keep the foot print size down as well as get my workbench setup in there. I would love to hear your thoughts...

I think we could have a warehouse size garage, still find a way to fill it, and wish we had more space. LOL.

hobbs4002,
Thanks for visiting!

I at this point wish we had built 20' wide instead of 16' wide.
I've never in all my years parked my daily driver in a garage.
We were very excited to have something bigger (and so much nicer) than what we had to park the Hot Rod in, that it never even crossed our minds it would be nice to park a daily driver inside in the winter as well.
Wider would have been nice. I'm not grumbling, I am very happy with what we have now. It is what it is.....

In your case, higher would be nice to be able to use a 4 post lift. That would get your 2 cars in there, with no problems.

I think no matter how big you build, you will always wish later you would have gone bigger.

My garage is a 20X30, with two overhead doors. It is rather tight side by side for two vehicles, although I have parked my GMC short bed and wife's Tahoe in it without much fuss. Later, I got an extended cab truck and that would not go in, as I have the back ten feet of the garage as another room. So in effect for cars mine is 20X20.
After I got the too long truck, I decided to have a half garage and half shop. I like that the best of all. My Subaru goes on the right side, and I have the whole left side for shop area, which I have filled if you have seen my photos. If I did not have the back ten feet in another shop, I would effectively lose about 32 feet of wall space, by having both sides of that separating wall gone.

I think an ideal size would be a 24X24 square with one 18' wide door. One could put the bench and tools to the front that way. Finding something perfect is probably not in the cards for most people, but like yourself, I am happy with what I have.

You have a beautiful car in that 72 Vega!!

Best Regards
Herb

I'll agree with 24 x 24 being ideal for 2 vehicles. After having a single and now a double I can see now ( after the stuff how I would do both again if I had to chance to do it again. I admit if you gonna have a single then yours is best size.

Herb,
You have mastered efficient space utilization and vehicle parking.

A 24' x 24' would have been nice for me. I was just looking out the kitchen window viewing my back yard & garage, and thinking about 24' wide.
I would have been ok with it, but my wife definitely not.
She has been very supportive of building the new garage.
I am very supportive of peace & harmony in my marriage.

Thanks for the compliment on my Vega.

taumac,
24' x 24' would be very nice space-wise for 2 vehicles.
In my case based on my property size, 20' wide would have been workable, but 24' definitely not.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the 8' x 20' New Age PVC flooring that Home Depot had on close-out.
I just got it all rolled out today.
Real good price, but I'm waiting for some hot weather so the curling & humps will flatten out. Being I'm in Michigan, it may be awhile before that happens.

Jon04,

Thanks for the reply, i really appreciate the feedback. I definitely see where your coming from. My DD's get parked in our small attached garage and there is absolutely no room for anything besides cars in there. if we didn't have that, we would 100% be going with a larger setup... Agreed. I think in my situation i could get away with the 16' that also stores 2 cars, etc. when i lay out a 20 ft wide garage it just kills the look of our backyard and our lot... something about that extra 4 feet just makes the yard feel really small...

I have some souvenirs of another trip around the sun (to very loosely quote a Jimmy Buffett song) that my wife and daughter got for me.
Garage Art.....
The Vega sign in the middle is from my daughter.

..
The Gulf thermometer my wife got for me.

..
The Chevrolet Parts sign is also from my wife.
I think it dresses out nicely the "Elmer Jenkins" door rescued from the old garage as a keepsake.

I have started insulating the gable ends with 1" foam-board.
North end is done, south end maybe next week.
I put some up on the overhead door header as well.

Nice utilization of your space.

My brother had a 71 Yenko Vega in the 70's, and I had a 75 Cosworth Vega in the 80's.

I finally sold the last of the Vega parts (fiberglass hood and a full front bumper) just about 6 or 7 years ago after hanging around my mom's garage forever.

I'm always interested in people's Vega stories, and I've heard many over the years.
What part of Michigan are you from?

Well I finally got the rest of the foam-board put up.
Had to put aside working on the garage for a couple of weeks.
I helped my son pick up some furniture from my brother's home, stored it in my garage for a week, and then helped my son move the furniture into his new apartment.
It was nice to have the space in the new garage to store the furniture.

After I got done with the foam-board, I put up a new sign I got from Hobby Lobby.
They were on sale for 50% off again.
I made sure I installed the sign high enough to not be able to hit my head on it.

I recently purchased a mini-fridge from Craigslist for my cold beverages.
I originally was going to build a simple frame from 2 x 4's to raise it off the floor a bit, mostly because I'm old and it's a long ways down there.
I got started, and it evolved into this.

..
It didn't cost me much.
The frame work was made from discarded grooved banding boards from work.
The only thing I didn't have sitting around and had to purchase were the caster wheels, and some 1/4" x 4" to make the edges look nice.

..
Mind you I don't have much skills in woodworking, but my wife said it looked nice when it was finished.
