Got my 112SIMTMM 1/4" socket set from the pawnshop seller on ebay to use with my new DeWalt impact driver. This is actually the seller's picture, but I couldn't make a better one. They're absolutely pristine and unused. $90, less than 1/2 list price.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the tray is actually usable in the toolbox, and that it has a magnet in the bottom to stick the tray to the drawer and the sockets to the tray. A little WiteOut to mark the sizes, and it's perfect.

Harbor Freight also got me in the door with the flyer for 50 shop towels for $9.99. I also walked out with the 1/4" hex to square drive (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2) adaptors for $2.99. Normally, I wouldn't even bother trying with Harbor Freight tools, but these actually look pretty good and, for a buck each, who cares if they break?

Just got this today a hard to find made in USA FAD12 now there made in Spain  Found it on Ebay for 55$ :rocker:, this completes my set after it was stolen about 6 months ago.
I'm all for buying made in USA stuff but I actually really like my made in Spain snap-on adjustable. The handle is nice (when you use it a lot, that is a big deal) and it has "teeth" on the end that really grabs the fasteners.

Decided to inventory my latest order. Only thing missing is the 3/4" set which is on backorder at the moment.

To second Strouty, it's a battery terminal puller. Works much better than beating the hell out of overtightened cables to get them loose.

The only problem with the pass through socket set is torquing the nut to spec. I guess you could use a crows foot on your torque wrench

Thanks to all of those that have replied to my question and posting photos of the tool being used. Always learning something new, I Love it :)

You use a hex key/bit/socket to hold the piston while you loosen/tighten the nut with the cut-out socket.

They've now been superceded with pass-through sockets:

Do you happen to know what size BMW uses for theirs, is it 22mm? Does that socket come in different sizes or is the size standard at 22MM?

I have it on good authority that Snap-On made them in China when they weren't stamped U.S.A. :shocking:

What? Ratchets?

I don't think so.

There's plenty of Made-in-China ancillary items, like caps, gloves, cordless power tools, work lights, etc. but I don't think they're making their core hand tools in China, yet. At least for the U.S. market.

Let's stay on track, here, though.

There's a large Spanish firm that's known for quality tools. I think Snap On bought them out.

It varies between model and front/rear.

My set has 16/17/18/19/21/22 i think. You can buy that set through VW dealers or from Hazet but it's very expensive. Even the individual parts are expensive.

I believe you are correct indeed they are expensive! As I recall on the early 80"s BMWs they are around 19 but the later ones are 21 or so. Thanks for the reply and info :)

From memory, most are 21s, but i do recall some 19s and maybe 16s on rear shocks.

I have the cutout sockets in 19/21/22 i think, but they're now discontinued. That set was a chance buy, brand new off eBay for £80!

Pass-through sockets and hex bits/hex keys are essentially the same thing for a much lower cost, i've also had good results with spark plug sockets that have the external hex. :) (16mm and 21mm being the most common, but 18/19/22 are around too)

That grinder will probably last forever, and even if it needs brushes Bosch have an online parts catalogue for you to get replacements from. Amazing parts back-up for their tools.

I don't know if it is pure ignorance or maybe just the normal feeling GJ brings. I forget you guys are so far away, seems like you are here hanging out in the shop with me all the time. Wish some of you guys lived closer, there are a few that I wish lived further away, but not too many.
