I haven't been to an estate sale in months and I got lucky on this one. I got the Reed 203R and a little Stanley Handyman for around $15.00 give or take a few dollars. I bought some other stuff along with it.
That's a you **** in my book, nice find.

AP: nice find. mine is missing that part that gives it the angles or extra support (at least i think mine should have one). anyway welcome to the group and since you know how to post nice pictures any chance you can post a few more because that vise deserves more than one when you have time.
Finished up the American Red Seal No. 54. Features brand new jaws by Kevin! And I 'm targeting the Kc area with one of there own. With the Royals winning the world series and the Chiefs in the playoffs I thought I'd pull it altogether in one great vise. The color is pure steel, flat but metallic .
Really nice. With a 10-0 run, I'm pulling for the Chiefs in the post season!

McB: i love your new Avatar. nicely done and is that one still around or did you post in him/her memory?

I have come in to escape from the heat of the day, that sun can do some damage down this way.
Drive : Thanks for the welcome to my poor introduction; I forgot my manners so I will remedy that now.
I live in Auckland, New Zealand and am nearer to pension age than I would wish.
I like my garage tools and enjoy rejuvenating old cast iron camp ovens (when I am lucky to come upon them)and pans etc, but they have to be interesting and as I said, old. The fun is in the discovery and seeking out their history.
Air rifles are another weakness too
PS after some digging for information, the largest Woden vice I could discover is a 6 inch and subsequent to that I received an email from the owner of the vice; it's a Record.
Here is my Aussie Dawn vice. From the initial images I bought it on, the jaws were out of align but not enough to concern me. When it arrived I dis-assembled it for a rough clean and found loose jaws with filings behind them and a packing washer; non of it was required. As you can see the jaws close up nice and parallel.
It is not super heavy but at 22kg is stout enough for my purpose.
They make good machinery over there.
Hi all. I was wondering - is scuttle.dayid.org being actively updated?
Thanks,
Thrumcap
No, I've not updated it in quite a while.
I've got it in my plans to re-vamp it and make it easier for me to maintain so updates aren't so tedious - it just hasn't happened yet.
From the change-logs it looks like -> yep -> updates went to a trickle right around when daughter #1 arrived and went full-stop when #2 was born![]()

Dayid: some of us would like to help you make your vise wiki better and would you like to set it up here so one of us that doesn't have 2 little ones can update it. also in case you haven't seen it there is a huge list of vise companies on the #2 post of the Vise Repair 101 thread in the vintage tool section.
also want to give you a big thank you because your Vise Wiki was a place i went to first when checking on vises.
congrats on having a couple little Dayids too.

dayid, Just want to say thanks for all the work you have done. Kids are important and we all will be patient on the revision. Again Thanks for all your work.

---Or I thought it might be some members pseudonym.---Anonymity can be a precious thing to some. Thanks Dayid, after building just the Wilton date database I know how much work these databases are! If I knew how many hours I had in it I probably wouldn't have done it LOL.
