Can you folks explain this Value added tax to a simpleton American like me??? I just can't comprehend what you say 19%. That sounds insane!

hehehe... sure sounds insane, as all other taxes they impose on us.

In 60-70' some guys who never worked a day in their life figured out how to taxate the poor, because this tax applies for mostly anything you will buy your whole life.

it's like this, if you're a regular Joe living and working in Europe you have to pay VAT (VALUE ADDED TAX) , in NL it's called BTW, in DE it's called Mwst, all the same ****, we pay here 21% not 19% as german buddies :)

If you live outside Eurpean Union and have stuff delivered you don't pay this tax, if you buy from a shop here you can get the tax back at customs with the receipt.

There are ways to avoid some of it but "they" don't like it and call us names like fraud and evasionists

Just to add to what has been already explained, I'll give an example of if i bought and sold a replacement fan motor,

350mm fan motor cost to me is £100, i am charged £100 for the motor and £20 VAT so £120 in total by my supplier.

Say I sell it for £200, the customer gets charged £240, £40 of which is vat at %20 here in the UK.

Every three months i have to do a VAT tax return, for simplicity say this is the only sale i made, I have paid out £20 VAT (to my supplier) and collected £40 (from my customer) I subtract the tax i have paid from the tax i have collected, and then pay that £20 to the government. If i have spent more than i have collected they end up owing me.

The VAT is on the total invoice so labour and other expenses are multiplied by 1.2

It is beneficial to try and buy as much stuff as possible through the business, that way you can put it against your VAT, you make less profit which is subject to tax. Employees don't have that option and their wages are subject to income tax and national insurance contributions (health service etc), and the things they buy to VAT so the are lucky to end up with 60/70% of what they earned.

Very nice, Monte :)
A colleague had Bahco store and through him I bought Bahco drill from Alpena,
they are good quality. The last two years, buy drills from Dormer and Diager, who are also very good.
they´re good and easy to get and affordable. Dormer is quite exotic over here and Diager not really available :( So Alpen is a good choice for name brand drill bits.

We (Croatia) have 25% :rocker: so, quarter of product value goes to the state budget :D
For that amount of tax you must have the nicest Autobahns in Croatia :D

They are pretty good, but for us they are pretty expensive... We don't have vignettes, but instead we pay toll every time we are going on highway...

For example, if you go from Zagreb to Split in one way toll is around 23€ (trip length is about 380 km in one way), and if you go back, together it is 46€, not to mention traffic jams in sommer months on tollbooths:bounce:
It's something like this, almost every day for a few months :D
377131.jpg

That is almost half of a yearly vignette in Austria or Slovenia for just one two-way trip :D

But I hope, sooner or later we well bring in better way to collect that money, cheaper and without jams ;)

Gasoline prices are simillar to countries in our neighbourhood, they're ok...

Eurosuper 95 (which is standard 95 octane here) is 1.15€
Eurodiesel is 0.99€

We are already paying road maintenance, eco-pollution and simillar taxes every year when we do technical checking of cars, somebody calculated that if we start to collect money for highways via vignettes, our citizens should have them free :D

P.S. I think it would be better if we continue this discussion on PM :D

P.P.S Those Metabo tools are

Hey Monte or friends, does knipex OEM their precision pliers like the grey ESD above? I wish they put the grey esd handles on every single pliers... I think it is perfect.

Hey guys,

quick question... time has come to upgrade my mix match daily use screw driver sets. I have loose drivers from Bahco, Sandvik, Scandia, Wiha, Stanley and even a few Aldi store brand (which hold up surplrisingly wel).

SOme are worn some have been lost.

Time to get a new set. Is Wera the go to brand in Europe at the moment? These are for daily diy use.

(in the +- 60 euro range for 6 drivers)

was thinking these:

Wow, I guess they can make **** tools in Germany. That chisel has a bad heat treat. I'm not an expert, but it looks to me like they forgot to temper it.

A guy I went to college with lost an eye from a shard coming out of a chisel like that.

I would take that and any other tools I owned from that company and throw them in the garbage and buy some good ones. Most people might ask for a refund, but I want them out of my sight so I never use them again.

I try to never use cheap hammering tools.

I like Wera and Felo. I like the shape of the Wera handle best, but I like the material and the grip of the Felo handle a little better. I'm also not really a big fan of the Wera color scheme, but function is more important to me than looks.

Hi there

I like Wera, I like Wiha about the same, toolmax is very overpriced

here same set http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Wera/Screw...erie_300_s/driver_set__16_pcs_i3595_55732.htm

I would also get this, it's a very nice set http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Wera/Angle...olour_SB_Long_arm_hex_key_set_i3599_55692.htm

Both sets for the price of one from toolmax

toolmax is outrageous but they do have a quick site so easy to get links for pics

I really should use google.de more.

On a side note: anyone have any experience with Hazet. They look nice and would have been out of my budget until Superbec pointed me to Germany. Thankyou for that:

These look to be probably from France but in general I wouldn't trust the info on the web. The other day I was looking for the Facom ratchets at Farnell they stated they were made in UK!!!

Have a watch of this video made in 2012 at the Laissey plant

This tool **** was lurking under the Christmas tree for me this year. Comes with an assortment of 10 common bits in the handle, the other bits I already had. Nice smooth ratchet that can be changed F/R/L one-handed.

I concur. An extra Swiss grip handle and the 1/4" drive attachment complete this set nicely. Quality is the best of any of my hand tools, over stahlwille, hazet, snap on, etc. I constantly find myself looking for reasons to buy more pbswiss.

my hazet magnetic cup is attached on the radiator next to my bed.. i keep flashlight, fruit knife (victorinox paring 8cm blade.. vicked sharp thing) and multitool (letherman juice s2) in it.. its a storage cup after all.

reminds me.. gotta remember buy more of those victorinox kitchen knives.. few more paring/fruit knives. maybe couple of those wavy blade paring knives too. and then i think i get a short swibo fillet knife (similar to victorinox but cheaper, i have long vic fillet already)

These come with a 3 year warranty rather than the time-unlimited for normal PB swiss tools.

Are you sure the PB Swiss Insider 3 falls under the 3 year warranty? As far as the text reads, only torque tools and sterilized tools fall under that category. Everything else should be the Unlimited Guarantee.

Taken from the pbtools.us (A U.S. Distributor) website:
http://www.pbtools.us/Quality.html
For tools and instruments with limited service life, no "lifetime warranty" can be guaranteed (e.g. electronic torque handles and instruments supplied in a sterile condition). PB Swiss Tools offers a warranty of 3 years against manufacturing and material defects for all torque tools.

Here's the page with Torque tools:
http://www.shop.pbtools.us/Torque-Tools_c5.htm

From the hard 2015 PB catalogue I have:

"torque screwdrivers feature a 3-year warranty starting with the purchase date"

Most of the PB Swiss tools I have come with individual serial numbers that can be checked on the PB website. I can't find one on the ratchet screwdriver which I assumed is because it doesn’t have an unlimited warranty. I'll email Switzerland and check.

Got a reply back in 2 minutes, quote:

"Hi

There is a serial number but not visible (covered by the ratchet).

The warranty is unlimited.

Kind regards

Manager Order Processing & Apprentice Training Officer"

This company really do seem to be in a different league, I think I'll buy the PB 8510 R-30 too !
